Hinkle Fieldhouse is a basketball arena located on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. When built in 1928, it was the largest basketball arena in the United States, a distinction it retained until 1950. It is the sixth-oldest college basketball arena still in use, and it is a U.S. National Historic Landmark. It is among the earliest of the major college fieldhouses, which, along with rules changes that made for a faster game, transformed college basketball in the late 1920s and 1930s.
Hinkle Fieldhouse is nicknamed Indiana's Basketball Cathedral due to the rich history it has played in the development of basketball in Indiana, also to distinguish it from The Palestra, known as The Cathedral of College Basketball.

Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse is getting an upgrade.
My Visit to Hinkle Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Assemly Hall
I took one afternoon while working in Indianapolis for a week to go visit a few historic basketball venues. Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University was the only one I could actually get it on that day, but I did manage to take a few pictures of Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the 2015 NCAA Final Four before making the drive to Bloomington, Indiana to visit Assembly Hall on the campus of Indiana University. Unfortunately, the inside of Assembly Hall was under major construction and I was not able to make it on the court.
Hinkle Fieldhouse erupts
As Butler tied their game against Youngstown State at 61, the home fans at Hinkle Fieldhouse showed their Bulldogs their appreciation.

1999 IHSAA Tournament of Champions Final: North Central 67, Westview 63
Class 4A state champion North Central of Indianapolis survived two upset-minded teams to take the Second Annual Tournament of Champions title April 3, 1999 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The championship game saw the Panthers defeat Class 2A champion Westview 67-63. Westview's pressure defense and scrappy style of play allowed it to take an eight-point lead in the second quarter; but North Central (25-5) came right back to close to 39-38 at halftime.
The teams remained close throughout the second half. North Central's Jason Gardner broke a 60-60 tie with a free throw at 3:31 to give North Central the lead for good. Gardner matched his performance in the Class 4A championship game with 24 points and game-high honors. Westview (24-4) received 22 points and nine rebounds from junior center Jeff Nelson.
Class A champion Tecumseh gave North Central all it could handle in the first semifinal game as the Panthers pulled out a 69-64 victory. Tecumseh led after each of the first two quarters, but the deciding point in the game came in the third quarter when North Central opened with a 10-2 run. Jason Gardner of North Central led all scorers with 25 points.
In the second semifinal game, Westview stopped Class 3A champion Plainfield 67-54 as junior Jeff Nelson led all scorers with 17 points.
