Catching up with Father Toufic in Maaloula
June 30, 2019 in Maaloula, Syria.
It was great to again catch up with my friend, Father Toufic - parish priest of the Melkite Church of St George's, Maaloula.
One of my goals in travelling to Syria this time was to establish some sort of sister-church relationship with Toufic's community at Maaloula. He is a wonderful man, and Maaloula has been a beacon of Christian witness now for nearly two Millenia.
Uglic (Russia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Uglic in Russia.
On the upper reaches of the Volga, around two hundred and eighty kilometres north of Moscow, is the Russian town of Uglič. The Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. It was built in 1692 out of stone and replaced a wooden church. Everywhere are illustrations of the mysterious death of the heir to the throne on the fifteenth of May, 1591. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed. Ivan the Terrible had two sons. The eldest, Fjodor Ivanovitch, was thought to be insane but was crowned anyway and was supported by Boris Godunov. As Godunov’s sister, Irina, was married to Fjodor Ivanovitch, his dream of becoming Tsar was almost a reality. When news that the eight year old, Zarevitch, had fatally run into a knife while playing, it caused havoc. Three hundred years later the symbol of the Dimitrijevskaija Blood Church was returned to the place in which the savage deed had taken place. Subsequently, the Romanov Dynasty ruled for three centuries and Uglič became a place of sadness and remembrance of one of the most spectacular events in Russian history.

Here's a piece on the Holy Trinity Orthodox Monastery in Mexico City in Spanish.
New Jerusalem monastery, Moscow region, Russia
This is not the first attempt to transfer the image of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, associated with shrines, on the territory of Russia. Among the monuments, which could reflect the influence of the Palestinian prototype, researchers call the temple of the Intercession on the Moat and the project Holy of Holies in the Moscow Kremlin (the latter, conceived by Boris Godunov, has not been implemented. It remains open and the question that could serve as a model for the Holy of Holies of this project-the old Testament Temple of Solomon or the Church of the Holy Sepulchre)
The lands on which the new monastery was supposed to be located were in the possession of the fiefdoms, and the Patriarch obtained from Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich a special right to acquire land holdings. Prior to the creation of the monastery, all land acquisitions were made on the Valdai Iversky monastery.former lands of boyar Vasily Sheremetev, Prince Alexei Trubetskoy, Stolnik Roman Boborykin joined the territory of the future monastery. The monastery buildings were built on the lands of the village of Redkino, bought from the deacon Lukyan.

Swimmers in Epiphany dip in Prague
(6 Jan 2017) Twenty-two hardy swimmers took part in the traditional Three Wise Men winter swim in the Vltava River under the Prague 's Charles Bridge on Friday.
We've always had a great experience but this time the Moldau river is colder than usual and that makes it really wonderful, said Vladimir Komarek, President of the Czech Hardy Union.
The group braved the 10 degree Celsius (50 Fahrenheit) water for around 20 minutes as part of Epiphany celebrations.
