Homomonument - Amsterdam (Netherlands)
The Homomonument is a memorial in the center of Amsterdam, a capital of the Netherlands. With all the gays and lesbians who were subjected to persecution because of their homosexuality. Inaugurated on September 5, 1987, it takes the form of three large pink triangles made of granite, set in the ground to form an emotion, on the bank of the Keizersgracht canal, near the main church of Westerkerk. Homomonument was developed to inspire and maintain lesbians and gays in their struggle against denial, oppression and discrimination. It was the world's first monument to please gays and lesbians who were killed by the Nazis.

A short impression of the Handbag Toss event at Amsterdam Gay Pride 2015 Drag Olympics. Some other events are: the 100m Stiletto Sprint, the newly accredited sports Hula Hoop and Bitch Volleyball. Like a dressage competition, looks are as important as the sport itself. All kings and queens are welcome on this playing field, taking place at the Homomonument.

Join Let's Go Research Writer, Beatrice, as she explores the Homomonument near Anne Frank's House, a monument in remembrance of all the gays and lesbians that were persecuted. Every 4th of May, an annual national memorial service takes place here to remember all the victims of gay hate.

Amsterdam Pride Walk 2019: From Homomonument to Pride Park
The Pride Walk in Amsterdam celebrates in 2019 its 7th anniversary as the kick-off event for the (Gay) Pride Week in Amsterdam. This year more than 15.000 people of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies participated in the rainbow-colored demonstration from the Homomonument at the Westerkerk to the Pride Park Vondelpark. For the first time, the demonstration was able to pass through the gate of the Rijksmuseum. The week after the annual Pride Week, Amsterdam is celebrating its famous Canal Pride Parade on the Prinsengracht with more than 80 boats and thousands of people from all over the world.
