Back in the USSR - Deep in Siberia ( with Russian translation )
A transcendental tale of two cities: Novosibirsk and Barnaul, situated deep within Siberia, Russia. Krsna consciousness came to these two cities almost 30 years ago and has grown into two thriving communities of devotees, with temples, deity worship and samkirtan. Memories of the blissful kirtans we had with these vaisnavas shall remain forever within our hearts. Despite the austerities we underwent traveling in Siberia at the end of winter, we will gladly return!

Becoming a Russian Walrus in KAZAN | Trans-Siberian Railway
In this episode of our Russia travel vlog series riding the Trans Siberian Railway, we arrive in the Capital of Tartarstan, Kazan!
scuba
On this leg of our great trip across Russia, we stop at The Blue Lake, a freezing pit of freshwater. Here, we learn about the famous Russian Walrus, or морж. These legendary beasts are brave men (or women) who polar dip in freezing water. While there is no snow this time of year, this lake is fed from ground water deep in the earth, and is a constant 5C.
After unthawing, we explore Kazan, and try traditional Tartarstan cuisine. This includes Chak-Chak, a famous dessert (so famous that there is a museum... we went.)
We end the day at the Kazan Kremlin, a beautiful complex featuring one of the nicest mosques I've ever seen.
A bit of a background story. This is a train journey of 10,000 km across Russia, the biggest country in the world. 25 days to visit Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Ulan-Ude, and Vladivostok.

This is a song. More specifically, it is a song by Yegor Letov, a famous current Russian anarchist and musician, about the Soviet Union, written in the late 1980s.
This song permeates Russian culture. Letov's name is most often associated with this above all else, and for good reason. Even though communism has been overthrown in Russia for 22 years, this song is still performed, at campfires, parties, anywhere where youth can play guitar. This song is so much a pop-culture phenomenon that stanzas have been added to it, different everywhere. It no longer belongs to Letov (who, being an anarchist, probably prefers it that way), but to Russian culture as a whole. It is very poetic, as the lyrics show. But mostly, it expresses the Russian perspective on its governments (from Tsar to President).
This is performed by a single man, with an acoustic guitar. It's hard to describe the emotions it conveys in text, especially translated. This song is of course bitter; he no more believes in communism than in Lenin's goodness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a crude translation of the song:
The key to our borders has been broken in two
And Our Father Lenin has withered away
He's decayed into mold and wild honey.
And the Perestroika is still going and going according to plan.
And the mud has turned into bare ice.
And everything is going according to plan.
And everything is going according to plan.
Well, my destiny wants some rest.
I've promised it not to join the game of war.
But on my army cap, there is a hammer and a sickle and a star
How touching, a hammer, a sickle and a star.
The wild lantern of anticipation is flailing
But everything is going according to plan.
Everything is going according to plan.
Well, they fed my wife to the crowds.
With the fist of the world they pounded in her chest.
With worldwide liberty they tore her flesh.
So bury her in Christ!
But everything is going according to plan.
Everything is going according to plan.
Only our grandfather Lenin was a good leader.
All the other ones are such shit.
All the others are enemies and such fucking assholes.
Over the homeland, the land of our fathers, an insane snow was falling.
I bought a Korea magazine, they have it good too.
They have Comrade Kim Il-sung, they have the same as we do.
I am sure that they have the same thing and everything is going according to plan.
And everything is going according to plan.
Everything is going according to plan.
Well, when we get communism it'll all be fucking great.
It will come soon, we just have to wait.
Everything will be free there, everything will be an upper.
We'll probably not even have to die.
I woke up in the middle of the night and realized
That everything is going according to plan.
Everything is going according to plan.

Lyrics:
What does perfect even mean?
Is there even such a thing? Oohh
Can we switch up all the rules,
And imagine a utopia,
Darling I’m just so fed up with,
These expectations, they keep weighing me down,
My heart is begging me to get the hell out of my head
I’m gonna live inside the upside down,
for a minute and pretend
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Woahhh, Woahhh
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Woahhh, Woahhh
And if i say it enough,
It gets ingrained in my head
And I start to see...
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Honey i’m a perfect 10
Woahhh
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Honey I’m a, yeah
(Ohhh)
Yeah I’ve discussed it with myself,
And I’m disgusted with the way,
We’re told to have a certain face,
A certain weight, be flawless.
We aren’t pixels on a screen,
No we’re human, we breathe.
Every single thing we see curated,
It’s overrated.
These expectations, they keep weighing me down,
My heart is begging me to get the hell out, of my head
I’m gonna live inside the upside down,
For a minute and pretend
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Woahhh
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Woahhhh
And if i say it enough
It gets ingrained in my head
And I start to think…
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Woahh
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Honey I’m a, yeah
(Ohh)
Wah-ohhh
Wah-oh
Honey I’m a perfect 10
Wah-ohhh
Wah-oh

Russia (Russian: Росси́я, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə]), officially the Russian Federation (Russian: Росси́йская Федера́ция, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈratsɨjə]), is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and North Asia. At 17,125,200 square kilometres (6,612,100 sq mi), Russia is by a considerable margin the largest country in the world by area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, and the ninth most populous, with about 146.77 million people as of 2019, including Crimea. About 77% of the population live in the western, European part of the country. Russia's capital, Moscow, is one of the largest cities in the world and the second largest city in Europe; other major cities include Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod. Extending across the entirety of Northern Asia and much of Eastern Europe, Russia spans eleven time zones and incorporates a wide range of environments and landforms. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the U.S. state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. However, Russia recognises two more countries that border it, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both of which are internationally recognized as parts of Georgia.
The East Slavs emerged as a recognizable group in Europe between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. Founded and ruled by a Varangian warrior elite and their descendants, the medieval state of Rus arose in the 9th century. In 988 it adopted Orthodox Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, beginning the synthesis of Byzantine and Slavic cultures that defined Russian culture for the next millennium. Rus ultimately disintegrated into a number of smaller states; most of the Rus' lands were overrun by the Mongol invasion and became tributaries of the nomadic Golden Horde in the 13th century. The Grand Duchy of Moscow gradually reunified the surrounding Russian principalities and achieved independence from the Golden Horde. By the 18th century, the nation had greatly expanded through conquest, annexation, and exploration to become the Russian Empire, wh ...

Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
