Built in 1609 for the shopkeeper Anton Burger, the house of heads is attributed to the architect Albert Schmidt, who also made the former protestant presbytery and the house of the St. John's Knights.
The house of heads, a fine building dating from the German renaissance, owes its name to the 106 heads or grotesque masks that decorate a rich façade on which stands also a three-storey bay window.
The gable of the building is decorated with volutes and the statue of a cooper, sculpted in 1902 by Auguste Bartholdi, who responded to an order of the wines Exchange that had moved into the building in 1898. The house of heads has been restored in 2012.

Places to see in ( Colmar - France ) Maison Adolph
Built around 1350, this house is considered to be one of the oldest in Colmar. It owns its name to the Adolph family, who removed the gothic picture windows at the end of the 19th century. Those picture windows, from the late 14th century, show with the pointed-arch windows, the influence of the religious art on the urban architecture.
The third storey and the half-timbered gable have been added in the 16th century. Next to the Adolph house is a well dating back to 1592 and surmounted by two lion heads. The well was initially in the Marchands Street nearby.
The house Adolph is a historical monument located in Colmar , in the French department of Haut-Rhin. This building is located at 16 Place de la Cathedrale in Colmar, formerly 4 Place des Armes. Long touted as the oldest house in Colmar, which seems informed by recent dendrochronological analyzes of other Colmarian buildings, the house Adolph seems to date back to the second half of the 14th century, probably built in 1350 (it is mentioned as early as 1371 )

The Musée Bartholdi is a museum dedicated to French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi and is situated at 30 rue des Marchands in Colmar, at the artist's birthplace. The museum has the Musée de France label. In 2011, the building is labeled Maisons des Illustres by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. In the courtyard there is a statue named Statue des grands soutiens du monde. Two doors of the 17th century were registered as a monument historique on 18 June 1926. In 2012, the museum numbered over 16,000 visitors.
Among many other, works by Bartholdi that can be seen in the museum include:
preparatory models for monuments created by the sculptor in the city, namely the statue of General Rapp, the Roesselmann fountain, the Hirn monument, the Schwendi fountain, the statue of Martin Schongauer, the statue of Admiral Bruat, the statue of the small grower and the statue of Alsacian Cooper;
preparatory models for the Lion of Belfort;
the Martyr moderne symbolizing the ultimate patriotic uprising by Poland against the Russian tsars (allegory of the myth of Prometheus);
a preparatory model of an ear for the Statue of Liberty;
a preparatory model of a horse's head for the Fontaine Bartholdi;
a collection of objects referring to the presence of a Jewish community in Alsace that has been well established for centuries.
The house where Auguste Bartholdi (1834 - 1904) was born at the heart of the old town of Colmar, houses a Museum dedicated to this emblematic artist. In the rooms spread over 3 stories, models of his monuments from several towns are on display. A special place is reserved for the original models of Bartholdi's masterpieces, the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Lion of Belfort.
You can also visit the living quarters with the family's furniture and the artist's personal memorabilia, not forgetting the room with a beautiful collection of Jewish art and another reserved for temporary exhibitions.

Maison des Tetes (House of the Heads): A Renaissance building decorated with faces, and the Pfister House, a marvellous old wooden house, one of the oldest in Colmar.
La petite Venise (Little Venice): Enjoy this little corner of the city; with small canals reminiscent of Venice, Italy. 30-minute boat excursions are available.

Places to see in ( Colmar - France ) Old Town
Seemingly right out of a storybook, the charming Old Town of Colmar is a captivating maze of winding cobblestone streets lined with typical Alsatian burghers' houses. This well-preserved historic area lies between the Rue des Têtes, the Rue des Clefs, and the Rue des Marchands near the Place de la Cathédrale.
Visitors may begin a tour of Colmar at the Place de la Cathédrale, in the very heart of Colmar's old town. On this square is the Collégiale Saint-Martin (Saint-Martin Collegiate Church), originally a Gothic church that was largely rebuilt in the 18th century. Another important historic monument on the Place de la Cathédrale is the Ancien Corps de Garde (Former Guard House) which has served many purposes, from a marketplace building to a justice hall and military housing.
This historic edifice is a jewel of Alsatian Renaissance architecture. The Maison Adolph also graces the square at 16 Place de la Cathédrale. Built in 1350 for the Adolph family, this lovely house is one of the oldest buildings in Colmar. Next to the Maison Adolph is a well featuring two lion heads that dates to 1592.
Continue sightseeing on the Grand Rue (a short walk away) and visit the Eglise Saint-Matthieu, a 13th-century Protestant church. A must-see attraction nearby is the Maison Pfister at the corner of the Rue Mercière and the Rue des Marchands. Blending medieval and Renaissance styles, this building is one of the finest old houses in Colmar.
The home was built in 1537 for Ludwig Scherer, a hatter who made his fortune in money trading. On the Rue des Marchands is the Bartholdi Museum that displays mementos of the famous sculptor Auguste Bartholdi who was born here. Next, stroll along the Rue des Boulangers (Bakers' street) and the Rue des Serruriers (Locksmiths' Street) to admire the picturesque half-timbered houses. Be sure to stop in front of 19 Rue des Têtes, to see the Maison des Têtes (the House of Heads). This ornate Renaissance building features a facade decorated with small busts and the faces of different personages. The building is now occupied by a five-star hotel with a renowned gastronomic restaurant.

In this episode we'll visit the Lone Tree, The Boat House at Llyn Ogwen, A view towards the mountain Tryfan and I'll tell the story about my hikes to the top of the Glyders. We will start out at Tintern Abbey in Southern Wales. As always the video is full of tips and tricks in regard to composition, light and practical stuff related to photography. In many ways this video could work as a landscape photography tutorial.
