House on the Rock is unlike any tourist attraction you’ve ever visited. Perched on a rocky outcropping in Spring Green, Wisconsin, the dwelling is home to self-playing instruments, an infinity room, a giant squid, countless nightmare-inducing dolls and more. But this is no museum, says operations director Jennifer Greene. It's a magical complex and all-around sensory explosion. Well, we’re sold!

Opened in 1885, the long corridor is 218 feet / 66 meters long and has over 3,000 small windows on the sides. A large rectangular window hole in the floor let you see the top of the trees below.
Designed and built by Alex Jordan Jr. He dropped out of college (after one year), tried to work for his father but was that didn’t work out. Het got 12000 dollars from his parents to start building a house on the rock. He sold the house in 1988 for 17 million dollars (and died a year later).
The family who bought the house still owns (and operates) it.

The jewel of the tour -- the Taliesin residence (actually built for his mistress, Mamah Borthwick Cheney) -- is an absolutely awesome building. Every detail oozes function; every line, every corner, every brick and every stone has a reason to be where it is. From Wright's personal drafting area, to the living room, to the guest bedroom and to his personal bedroom, the house is a study in architectural achievement. FOR EVERMOR: I 1st discovered House on the Rock when I was touring in 1992 with the 'Official' Project & staying at Dreamtime Village & our host mIEKAL aND told us about it. I was astounded. I was passing through again in 1998 on tour with etta cetera & we stopped at Dreamtime again & I shot filmstrip footage at House on the Rock & at the sculpture park of Dr Evermor & Lady Eleanor's where what was once the world's largest scrap metal sculture, THE FOREVERTRON, was placed. I shot filmstrips there & audio recorded an interview with Dr Evermor. I found them both to be extraordinarily warm people & I felt a deep friendliness toward them that I still feel to this day. 13 years later I returned & shot mini-dv footage at House on the Rock — making sure to get footage of the Organ Room, which Dr Evermor had been the main man behind. Evermor's genius as a scrap metal sculptor is evident both in the Organ Room's layout & in his most famous sculpture, the Forevertron — at his art park. I hope that this extremely close-to-no-budget movie adequately represents the spirit of Evermor's truly fantastic imagination, consumate sculpting skills, & wry sense of humor. Such extraordinary people deserve my total respect.
