Places to see in ( Venice - Italy ) Palazzo Fortuny
The Palazzo Fortuny (also known as Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei) is an art museum in San Marco, Venice, Italy. Once owned by the Pesaro family, this Gothic building in Campo San Beneto, near the church of the same name, was transformed by Mariano Fortuny into his own photography, stage-design, textile-design and painting atelier. For a time, the palace was known as the Palazzo Orfei after an 18th-century tenant, a musical society known as the Accademia d'Orfeo. The building maintains the structure created by Fortuny, as well as its collections.
The building was donated to the city in 1956 by Henriette Nigrin, Mariano’s widow. The collections within the museum comprise an extensive number of pieces which reflect the various fields investigated by the artist. The museum is run by the Fondazione Musei Civici Venezia (MUVE).
Palazzo Fortuny is one of the biggest palaces in Venice. Three of its facades overlook Campo San Beneto, Calle Pesaro, and Rio di Ca' Michiel. there are around 150 paintings by Mariano Fortuny, which illustrate the various phases of his career as an artist, where the Wagnerian period (until 1899) holds a central place. A balance of painting and theatre mark an intimate understanding of the dream and myth that thrilled Europe at the end of the 19th century. Also interesting are the portraits, in which the family, and particularly his wife, play a fundamental role.
Photographs exhibited were taken either from the collection left by Mariano Fortuny or from the Musei Civici di Venezia's collection, comprising works from 1850 to the Second World War, in a rich variety of styles, techniques and historic images. collection of clothes, fabrics, prints, materials and ornamental clothes make up a rich sample of Fortuny’s work in the field of fabrics and fashion design, in which the artist took ornamental motifs and reinterpreted them in a modern decorative style. Fortuny drew decorative models and designs from precious Renaissance velvets and from fabrics from exotic cultures.

VENEZIA SALVA by Serena Nono
SPECIAL EVENT

Italy, World Premiere
Production: Giano Produzioni
Venezia salva, freely adapted from the play by Simone Weil, is the story of Spain´s failed attempt to sack of Venice in 1618. A plot is devised by the Spanish ambassador, the Marquis of Bedmar, and the Neapolitan viceroy, the Duke of Osuna, to conquer Venice on the night before the festival of the 'Sensa´ which reenacts the marriage of Venice to the sea, the aim being to crush the Serenissima and annex it to the Kingdom of Spain. A faithful yet abstract depiction of the historical event and a remarkable journey through largely visual art forms (featuring theatre, history painting, music and images in motion), this third film by the Venetian director - and her feature directorial debut - came out of a workshop involving the residents of the Casa dell´ospitalità di Venezia e Mestre (a shelter for the homeless), the same residents who play most of the roles in the film.

76th Venice Film Festival - Red Carpet 2019
#venezia76 , #venicefilmfestival #festivaldivenezia #BradPitt
The 76th Venice International Film Festival is underway. And its opening events have reminded everyone why this red carpet is considered among the world's most glamorous.
With guests arriving at the historic Palazzo del Cinema by boat, onlookers have been treated to a display of elegant couture and designer evening wear.
Wednesday night marked Venice's opening screening, an honor this year bestowed on French-Japanese production The Truth. The movie's co-stars Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binochet were among red carpet's best-dressed, the former in a floor-length dress and sleeveless orange coat by Jean Paul Gaultier, and the latter in a beaded silver satin gown by Armani Privé.
But there were plenty of other winners from across the worlds of stage, screen and runway.
Model Martha Hunt stunned in a feathered bodice and high-slit sheer skirt by Alberta Ferretti, while actress Alessandra Mastronardi was every bit the festival hostess in a strapless tulle gown. Elsewhere, Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana, South African model Candice Swanepoel and Chinese actress Ni Ni all impressed in differing shades of gold.
And sophistication doesn't have to mean dressing demurely -- there were plenty of fashion statements on show, too. Supermodel Iman arrived in an eye-catching Valentino gown adorned with images of flowers and birds that seeped into a real feather trim. And Victoria's Secret model Elsa Hosk turned heads in a figure-hugging halter neck dress by Etro, her midriff almost completely visible through a daring strapped front.
Elsa Hosk walks the red carpet ahead of the Opening Ceremony and the La Vérité (The Truth) screening during the 76th Venice Film.
Thursday evening saw premieres for the much-anticipated Ad Astra and Marriage Story, with the stars of both movies turning up in style.
In particular, Scarlett Johansson impressed in a custom sequined gown by Celine, while Laura Dern looked elegant in a dark green embroidered Gucci dress.

There will be more red carpets -- and many more fashion moments -- to come between now and Sept. 7, when the festival wraps up. But true to form, it has been a glamorous start to the world's oldest film festival.

The Bridge of Sighs - The bridge's name, given by Lord Byron as a translation from the Italian Ponte dei sospiri in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells.
(Italian and Venetian: Ponte dei Sospiri) is a bridge located in Venice, northern Italy. The enclosed bridge is made of white limestone, has windows with stone bars, passes over the Rio di Palazzo, and connects the New Prison (Prigioni Nuove) to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. It was designed by Antonio Contino (whose uncle Antonio da Ponte had designed the Rialto Bridge) and was built in 1600.
The Doge's Palace (Italian: Palazzo Ducale; Venetian: Pałaso Dogal) is a palace built in Venetian Gothic style, and one of the main landmarks of the city of Venice in northern Italy. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Venetian Republic, opening as a museum in 1923. Today, it is one of the 11 museums run by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
Doge's apartments
The rooms in which the Doge lived were always located in this area of the palace, between the Rio della Canonica – the water entrance to the building – the present-day Golden Staircase and the apse of St. Mark’s Basilica. The disastrous fire in this part of the building in 1483 made important reconstruction work necessary, with the Doge’s apartments being completed by 1510. The core of these apartments forms a prestigious, though not particularly large, residence, given that the rooms nearest the Golden Staircase had a mixed private and public function. In the private apartments, the Doge could set aside the trappings of office to retire at the end of the day and dine with members of his family amidst furnishings that he had brought from his own house (and which, at his death, would be promptly removed to make way for the property of the new elected Doge).

Postcards from Venice: Canaletto paintings on show in London
(18 May 2017) LEADIN:
While contemporary art takes over Venice, as part of the Italian city's Biennale, a new London show is looking back to simpler times.
Buckingham Palace's Queen's Gallery is opening a new exhibit that explores the work of 18th century Venetian painter Canaletto.
STORYLINE:
Busy canals, gliding gondolas and towering architecture, it's unmistakably Venice.
Buckingham Palace's Queen's Gallery is staging a new exhibit dedicated to 18th century Venetian painter Giovanni Antonio Canal - or Canaletto - best known for these dramatic images of his home city.
There are over 200 paintings, drawing and prints.
The exhibit includes a series of 12 paintings of Venice's Grand Canal, which together make almost a complete journey down the bustling waterway.
Canaletto's paintings of Venice have defined the image of Venice for us, says curator Rosie Razzall.
Even today people go to the city and recognise sites from Canaletto's paintings, whether they've seen the paintings or whether they've seen them on reproductions on postcards or tea towels or other tourist souvenirs. And the city is well known to us through Canaletto's paintings.
Canaletto's dramatic works of Venice's busy waterways became particularly popular among wealthy Grand Tourists, groups of mainly wealthy tourists conducting cultural journeys across Europe.
They were drawn to the city by its numerous cultural attractions and often wanted a piece of it to take home.
In a time before postcards or smartphone selfies, Canaletto's paintings and prints became a popular option.
That meant he was allowed to take certain artistic liberties with Venice's geography in order to create prettier pictures.
Canaletto's paintings look like they show real scenes, but the thing about him was that he was always manipulating the reality and bringing together buildings to create a dramatic, almost theatrical painting, explains Razzall.
What he created was something for the tourists to take home, says art critic Estelle Lovatt.
Today you'd buy a postcard, but then there were no postcards. So, you would commission Canaletto to do an oil paintings and if you couldn't afford that, he would also give you the opportunity to purchase a print which was of course much smaller, much cheaper, you could roll it up, put it in your suitcase.
The Venetian painter is long thought to have used a camera obscura to achieve such drawing accuracy.
The device helps artists trace images formed by rays of light passing through a box.
But in preparation for this exhibit, experts used infrared photographs of these six Canaletto drawings to view the preparatory carbon pencil drawings beneath.
They showed how, rather than using the simple device, Canaletto set out the buildings with painstaking accuracy, plotting chimneys, arches and windows.
The use of the camera obscura might be seen as a kind of cheat and Canaletto, he's just recording, just tracing down what he sees in front of him, says Razzall.
But these infrared images show that he was actually very carefully putting together these sheets. So, he's using his creative imagination and expression to make these drawings and paintings.
The exhibit also includes works by Canaletto's contemporaries, exploring how they captured the allure of Venice.
In 1762, a young King George III purchased almost the entire collection of art collector and Canaletto's agent, Joseph Smith.
That acquisition now means Britain's Royal Collection Trust owns what's thought to be the largest collection of works by Canaletto.
It's a demonstration of Canaletto's business sense, but also his background in stage and theatre design.
'Canaletto & the Art of Venice' runs at Buckingham Palace's Queen's Gallery 19 May - 12 November.

Italian Fashion models at Palazzo Altemps in Rome (manortiz)
Fashion models at Palazzo Altemps
150 years after the unification of Italy, the world of fashion celebrates this important landmark through a wonderful exhibition called: Eroine di stile. La moda italiana veste il Risorgimento. This means Italian fashion wants to create 80 dresses for 35 heroines of the Italian history. 35 is the number of designers, who are partecipating in the celebration: Giorgio Armani, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Gattinoni, Prada, Ferragamo, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, ... Each designer studied the personality of the heroines in order to best represent them. What they are creating is not just a simple dress, but an image of the individuality of the person: colors, materials used for dresses and the way they have been sewed. Even if the designers did not personally know them, through stories, archives they could create something for them. I think it is amazing!

On the occasion of the exhibition of Tintoretto: Artist of Renaissance Venice, Eric Denker, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art, presents a four-part lecture series examining Jacopo Tintoretto’s work in the context of 16th-century Venetian art, history, and culture. In the first lecture, “Tintoretto in Context: Framing Tintoretto: Sixteenth-Century Venetian Painting,” held on April 16, 2019, Denker discusses Venetian Renaissance painting beginning with Giovanni Bellini, his workshop, and his followers, in the second half of the 15th century. Giorgione and Titian were among his most prominent pupils, developing out of Bellini’s linear style the more atmospheric color, light, and shadow characteristic of Venetian High Renaissance oil painting. Though Titian would dominate the painting of large-scale altarpieces and decorations in Venice during the first half of the 16th century, rivals influenced by contemporary central Italian art appeared in Venice by the 1520s and ’30s. Artists including Pordenone and Andrea Schiavone provided alternative sources of style and imagery for both painters and patrons.
Venice Flood Disaster: Is Italy's Government to Blame?
Nov.14 -- As Venice suffers its worst flood in half a century, some critics say authorities have made too many concessions to the tourist industry at the expense of sustainable environmental policies that could shield the city from flooding. Wolfango Piccoli, director of research at Teneo Intelligence, and Nicola Mai, sovereign credit analyst and portfolio manager at Pacific Investment Management Co., discuss Italian politics in the wake of the disaster. They speak on Bloomberg Surveillance.
Venice flooded by second-highest tide in its history
Venice, one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, is dealing with near-record flooding. Large areas were swamped by the second-highest tide ever recorded in the city, which is known for its canals and gondolas. The mayor blamed climate change and declared a state of emergency.
