IDAHO STATE CAPITOL
The Idaho State Capitol in Boise is the home of the government of the state of Idaho. Although Lewiston, Idaho, briefly served as Idaho's capital from the formation of Idaho Territory in 1863, the territorial Legislature moved the capital to Boise on December 24, 1864.
Construction of the first portion of the capitol building began in the summer of 1905, 15 years after Idaho gained statehood. Architects were John E. Tourtellotte and Charles Hummel. Tourtellotte was a Connecticut native whose career began in Massachusetts and skyrocketed further when he moved to Boise. Hummel was a German immigrant who partnered with Tourtellotte in 1901. The final cost of the building was just over $2 million; it was completed in 1920. The architects used varied materials to construct the building and their design was inspired by Classical examples.

Day 46 7-15-16 We visit the Boise, Idaho Capitol building. It is a beautiful building.
Idaho State Capitol
Sorry for the low quality photos. We took them with a cell phone camera. The Idaho State Capitol Building recently was renovated. Many upgrades were made throughout the building. The largest change came in the form of an addition of underground wings. The new wings provided for offices for each legislator and new committee rooms with plenty of space to conduct the peoples business.
Legislative Areas—Idaho State Capitol Restoration
Impressive progress to the legislative areas of the Idaho State Capitol includes the comprehensive restoration of the original building and the new underground expansion wings. The additional 50,000 feet of new legislative hearing space takes place entirely in the Capitols underground Garden Level. The new space will increase Idaho citizen participation in the legislative process. The Capitols third and forth floors are now showing spectacular restoration efforts that return the legislative areas to their 1920s grandeur. Modern, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems are hidden just beneath the surface of this effort.
