Indianapolis (''Indy'') is the capital of the U.S. state of Indiana and it is the largest city in Indiana, with 12.8 percent of the state's total population. As of the 2010 census, the city's population is 820,445. It is the 12th-largest city in the United States (the third largest state capital) and the 29th-largest metropolitan area in the United States.
The city is second only to Washington, D.C., for the number of war monuments inside city limits. Both Forbes and Livability.com rank Indianapolis among the best downtowns in the United States citing more than 200 retail shops, more than 35 hotels, nearly 300 restaurants and food options, movie theaters, sports venues, museums, art galleries and parks as attractions
High rise construction in Indianapolis started in 1888 with the 256-foot (78m) high Indiana Statehouse, followed by the 284-foot (87m) Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in 1898. However, because of a special ordinance disallowing building higher than the structure, the monument remained the highest structure until the completion of the City-County Building in 1962.
Many of Indiana's largest and most recognized companies are headquartered in Indianapolis. Before Detroit came to dominate the American automobile industry, Indianapolis was also home to a number of carmakers, including Duesenberg, Marmon Motor Car Company and Stutz Motor Company.
8 miles of trail!
Constructed between 2007 and 2013, the Indianapolis Cultural Trail (a $63 million project with $864.5 million of estimated economic impact) is an urban bike and pedestrian path that connects the city's five downtown Cultural Districts, neighborhoods and entertainment amenities, and serves as the downtown hub for the entire central Indiana greenway system. The trail includes benches, bike racks, lighting, signage and 26 bike rentals/drop-offs (250 bikes) along the way and also features local art work. It was officially opened in May 2013.

Driving INDIANAPOLIS Downtown Indiana USA
Indigenous peoples inhabited the area dating to approximately 2000 BC. In 1818, the Delaware relinquished their tribal lands in the Treaty of St. Mary's In 1821, Indianapolis was founded as a planned city for the new seat of Indiana's state government. The city was platted by Alexander Ralston and Elias Pym Fordham on a 1-square-mile (2.6 km2) grid next to the White River. Completion of the National and Michigan roads and arrival of rail later solidified the city's position as a manufacturing and transportation hub. Two of the city's nicknames reflect its historical ties to transportation—the Crossroads of America and Railroad City Since the 1970 city-county consolidation, known as Unigov, local government administration operates under the direction of an elected 25-member city-county council headed by the mayor.
Indianapolis anchors the 27th largest economic region in the U.S., based primarily on the sectors of finance and insurance, manufacturing, professional and business services, education and health care, government, and wholesale trade. The city has notable niche markets in amateur sports and auto racing. The Fortune 500 companies of Anthem, Eli Lilly and Company, and Simon Property Group are headquartered in Indianapolis. The city has hosted many international multi-sport events, such as the 1987 Pan American Games and 2001 World Police and Fire Games, but is perhaps best known for annually hosting the world's largest single-day sporting event, the Indianapolis 500.
Indianapolis is home to two major league sports clubs, the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). It is home to a number of educational institutions, such as the University of Indianapolis, Butler University, Marian University, and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The city's robust philanthropic community has supported several cultural assets, including the world's largest children's museum, one of the nation's largest privately funded zoos, historic buildings and sites, and public art. The city is home to the largest collection of monuments dedicated to veterans and war casualties in the U.S. outside of Washington, D.C.

INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY-MUSEUM-INDY 500-QUALIFYING-EP28
We left Louisville, and stopped in Indianapolis. Obviously, we had to see the Indy Speedway and Museum! It was exciting because they were gearing up for the Indy 500 on Memorial weekend, just one week away! We were the last group to drive on the racetrack for our tour because the next day they were practicing for the 500! Talk about being in the right place at the right time!!
Well the next day it rained, so we did other things. Serendipity again jumped to our rescue. There turned out to be a giant Mecum Car Auction at the Indiana State Fair Grounds where we were staying. This CG is highly recommended. Its cheap, and is the perfect location for doing lots of things in the area. Full hookup.
The following day we were back at the Indy track for qualifying. All of the drivers were there working to win the pole position for the upcoming race. Multiple cars were almost always on the track at full 225+ miles per hour. It felt like a real race, but with 1/1000th the people around.
We started on the shady side and just followed the sun. We had amazing track access considering we only paid 15 US dollars each, which includes infield close parking. Mark felt like a man because he was able to wear hearing protection and drink beer. You are allowed to bring in your own coolers! He even brought along a stopwatch!
I don't think anyone knew it was normally used to time the rinse cycle during our black tank flush. He made sure to clean it up with some Clorox wipes first. If you don't know what a black tank is,.........it's the naughty one……...

Places to see in ( Indianapolis - USA )
Places to see in ( Indianapolis - USA )
Indianapolis is in the Nine-County Region of Indiana, right at the center of the state. It is the state capital and largest city of Indiana, United States, and is in Marion County. The population within city limits is approximately 830,000 people, making it the 12th largest city in the US. The metropolitan area has about 2 million (23rd in the US). Indianapolis is also known as the Racing Capital of the World due to the proximity of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500 and Allstate 400 at the Brickyard (formerly known as the Brickyard 400).
The name Indianapolis is simply Indiana joined with polis, the Greek word for city. The founders of Indianapolis expected it to be the Great Inland Port, but they neglected to consider the fact that the White River is impossible to navigate most of the year; other than during the spring, it is a melange of sandbars and temporary islands. However, this port-desire left the city with a beautiful, if useless, canal district.
The tallest building in Indianapolis is the Salesforce Tower, standing at 830 feet. The second is the One America Tower standings at 533 feet, and the third is the One Indiana Tower standing at a height of 504 feet. The fourth and fifth are the Market Tower (421 feet) and 300 North Meridian (408 feet). The sixth and seventh tallest are the M&I Plaza (401 feet), and the seventh tallest is the JW Marriott Indianapolis (376 feet): the JW Marriott Indianapolis is the tallest hotel in the state and the largest JW Marriott in the world.
Clean-cut Indy is the state capital and a perfectly pleasant place to ogle race cars and take a spin around the renowned speedway. The art museum and White River State Park have their merits, as do the Mass Ave and Broad Ripple hoods for eating and drinking. And fans of author Kurt Vonnegut are in for a treat. A swell walking and biking trail connects it all.
Indianapolis is called the Crossroads of America. The city is warm in the summer, with average highs in the mid-80s in June, July, and August. Indianapolis has a typical mid-western winter. January is the coldest month, with an average high of 34 degrees.

Rey at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum
Rey visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. This is a must seen place when you visit Indiana. He was so happy to see many different types of racing cars. There's also one that he could try to sit and took picture in it. The museum is located inside the automobile racing circuit. It is the home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400, and formerly the home of the United States Grand Prix.

A movie made from pictures taken from a visit I made to the Eiteljorg Museum. The Eiteljorg Museum is in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. The museum houses an excellent collection of Native contemporary art. I wrote the song to accompany the images.
