Ghosts Haunt the Joliet Historical Museum
Myself and Sunnie investigated the Joliet Area Historical Museum and while there I captured quite a few EVP's and even a ball moving. This video file is a simple compilation of evidence clips from our time there. You will see the full cut, and then a replay of enhanced EVP at the end of that clip. We also use the Ghost Box and the Ovilus while there. I hope you enjoy it.

Old Joliet Prison reopens for tours
It was a prison for nearly 150 years and it’s been a target for vandals, but now a popular landmark in Joliet has found a news purpose in its old life.
FULL STORY:
Illinois Adventure #1305 Joliet's Old Factory Site Now a Historical Nature Walk
Joliet is known as the City of Steel and Stone. Rich deposits of limestone led to a thriving quarrying industry, and in the years following the Civil War, a huge iron producing industry would, over 60 years, employ thousands at the Joliet Iron Works.
Following the dismantling of the Joliet Iron Works in the 1930s, the foundations of this once bustling factory were all but forgotten. However, in the 1990s the Forest Preserve saved this important link to Joliet's past.
Follow a one-mile walkway through the site on a self-guided tour through exhibits explaining the iron making process, and just as importantly, describing the men who worked there.
Bicycle trails extend both northeast and southwest from the Iron Works site, and I&M Canal Locks 3 and 4 are accessible by the bike trail just .3 mile north of the blast furnace trail. From downtown, follow the bicycle route signs and silhouette trail north .1 mile to the Joliet Iron Works historic site.

Joliet Township Central High School Historical Tour Joliet, Illinois
Joliet Township Central High School Historical Tour. Built mostly of Joliet limestone. In 1982, the school building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was designed by Frank Shaver Allen. The school is four stories tall, two city blocks long, and includes four separate buildings. The campus underwent a moderate expansion during 2005 when the old shop building was knocked down and a new building was erected in its place. A catwalk connects the main building to the T&I building and allows students to cross unencumbered during inclement weather. The facilities include a daycare center (on the ground floor of the Little Theater building), a planetarium, six tennis courts, one soccer field, four baseball fields, a 1/16-mile indoor track and a 1/4-mile track across the street to the east. Joliet Junior College (JJC), a community college based in Joliet, Illinois, was the first public community college founded in the United States. JJC shared Joliet Township High School building in the early 1900's. Joliet Junior College was founded in 1901 by Joliet Township High School Superintendent J. Stanley Brown and President of the University of Chicago, William Rainey Harper. Brown, who came to Joliet in 1893, first served as the principal of the school.

Leg 7:
Chicago Midway International (KMDW) to Joliet Regional (KJOT)
Welcome back to my tour around the world in this awesome adventure of discovery! We've got a lot (and I mean a lot) going on in this episode. We'll be departing Chicago Midway, and we're headed out to Joliet Regional - but not without paying a tribute to the once, great Meigs airfield. We won't be back to Chicago in a while, so we're going to do a Touch 'n' Go at Meigs as we wave farewell to our Chicago friends. After that, the adventure REALLY begins! And that's an understatement, because weather is NOT our friend in this flight. Once we land though, there will be a lot of stuff to check out in Joliet - the gateway to Route 66 out of Chicago!
This is a lengthy video, but it's one that I put an extreme amount of work into. I hope you enjoy it and discover something new about Joliet that perhaps you didn't know before.

Illinois Adventure #1701 Ulysses S. Grant Home State Historic Site
The Italianate structure known as the U. S. Grant Home was built in 1859-60 as a residence by Alexander J. Jackson of Galena.
The Grant Home site includes several small mid-19th century homes comprising the three-block Grant Home Historic Neighborhood. Grant State Park, a tree-shaded area south of the Grant Home has picnic tables for public use. Also in the park is the Long House, a log building constructed ca. 1851 and moved to the site from Elizabeth, Illinois in 1976, representing a typical settler's home of mid-nineteenth-century Jo Daviess County.
Visitors are provided with an interpreter-conducted tour of the Grant Home. Interpreters are dressed in historic costumes from April through October. The tour emphasizes Grant as the victorious war leader, the 1868 candidate for president, and the eighteenth President of the United States. The adjacent building contains exhibits on Grant's life and history of the Grant Home. The first floor of the Home is accessible to persons with disabilities, as are the exhibit room and restrooms in the building next door. The Home's second floor is not accessible.
Chicago: Start of Route 66
U.S. Route 66 (US 66, Route 66) was a United States Numbered Highway in Illinois that connected St. Louis, Missouri, and Chicago.
When US 66—first known as the Main Street of America and later dubbed the Mother Road by novelist John Steinbeck in 1939—was designated on November 11, 1926, the original path used mostly pre-existing roads. That was intentional, to minimize any needed construction and to get the entire path of the route open to traffic as soon as possible. In fact, because Illinois had already paved most of the roads that would comprise US 66, Illinois was the first of the eight states through which the route ran to have its segment of US 66 completed at a time when much of Route 66 was still a gravel-and-dirt road.
From south to north, these include the Beaux Arts style Joliet Union Station by Jarvis Hunt; the historic Church of St. Anthony, the oldest public building still in use in Joliet; the endangered St. Mary Carmelite Church by Patrick Keely; the Joliet Public Library, designed by Daniel Burnham; the restored Rialto Square Theatre, one of the few surviving movie palaces of the more than 400 designed by Rapp & Rapp; the Georgian Revival Louis Joliet Hotel, transformed into apartments but still an unfinished renovation project; the Neoclassical Old Joliet Post Office; the Auditorium Building block by G. Julian Barnes, a classic Joliet limestone building; the Joliet Area Historical Museum, which occupies another Julian Barnes building, the former Ottawa Street Methodist Church; the Italianate style Joliet Chamber of Commerce Clubhouse, now the JJC Renaissance Center, and the old Joliet YMCA across the street, both designed by Burnham Brothers; two Art Deco structures, the Public Service Building on Ottawa and the KSKJ Building on Chicago Street further north; and the magnificent Bedford limestone St. Joseph Church, designed by Burnham protege William J. Brinkmann and the largest church in the city, whose twin spires could be seen for miles around when Route 66 was new.
The current End Historic Illinois U.S. Route 66 markers are located on Jackson (eastbound) and the Start Historic Illinois U.S. Route 66 markers are on Adams (westbound) at Michigan Avenue, in the Chicago Landmark Historic Michigan Boulevard District, in recognition of the original eastern terminus of US 66 at Michigan and Jackson. The historic eastern terminus is marked by the southwest corner of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Fountain of the Great Lakes in the Art Institute's South Garden along Michigan Avenue; both the museum and the fountain were already there long before the route's inauguration at that intersection in November 1926 and remain there today.
Major intersections.
US 66 has come to stand for the collective, American tourist experience and holds a special place in American popular culture. There is a certain nostalgic appeal to Route 66 that is associated with the thrill of the open road that has contributed to its popularity. Looking at the historic roadway through Illinois from a different perspective, it reveals a unique history that tells the story of movement and road building across the prairie. Study of the highway in Illinois also reveals the evolution of the Interstate Highway System and the growing popularity of automobiles.
Aside from the six sections of the route in Illinois that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the entire stretch of US 66 through Illinois has been declared a National Scenic Byway and is alternatively known as the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway. The 436-mile (702 km) stretch of road was declared the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway on September 22, 2005 by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
