The Pataleshwar Cav Caves e Temple is carved out of rock in the Rashtrakuta period in 8th century. The cave is now situated in Pune, in Maharashtra. At present the cave is situated on downtown Jangli Maharaj Road. It is government owned safeguarded monument. This temple is devoted to Shiva, the Hindu God. The sanctum of the temple has cube shaped room which is about 3-4 metres on all the sides and it is the abode of a linga that is Shiva’s symbol.
To the entrance of the cave is a Nandi Mandapa, circular in shape and its umbrella shaped canopy supports huge square pillars. A meticulously carved Nandi shrine is placed in the large courtyard of the Pataleshwar Cave. Three sanctums are present in the Cave Temple and the Shivalinga houses the central one.
The walls of the main temple caves exhibit Indian mythology stories. The vast complex of cave is now transformed into a garden and a few architectural structures are preserved in this complex.

Other caves surrounding the city of Junnar are: Manmodi Caves, Shivneri Caves and Tulja Caves.

Lenyadri (लेण्याद्री,represents a series of about 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves, located near Junnar in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Cave 7 is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the god Ganesha. It is one of the Ashtavinayak shrines, a set of the eight prominent Ganesha shrines in Maharashtra.
Twenty-six of the caves are individually numbered. The caves face to the south and are numbered serially from east to west.Caves 6 and 14 are chaitya-grihas (chapels), while the rest are viharas (dwellings for monks). The latter are in the form of dwellings and cells. There are also several rock-cut water cisterns; two of them have inscriptions. The layout of the caves, in general, are similar in pattern and shape. They generally have one or two sides with two long benches for occupants' use.
The caves date from between the 1st and 3rd century AD; the Ganesha shrine situated in Cave 7 is dated to the 1st century AD,though the date of conversion to a Hindu shrine is unknown. All of the caves arise from Hinayana Buddhism.
It is believed that Parvati (Lord Shiva’s wife) performed penance to beget Ganesha at this point. This temple stands amidst a cave complex of 18 caves of Buddhist origin. This temple is the 8th cave. These are called Ganesh- Leni as well.

पुणे जिल्ह्यातील जुन्नर तालुक्यामध्ये तुम्हाला ओझर आणि लेण्याद्री या ठिकाणी असलेले अष्टविनायकांपैकी २ गणपती बाप्पा चे दर्शन घेता येते. ओझर चे गणपती विघ्नेश्वर व लेण्याद्रीचा गिरिजात्मक असे या गणपतींचे नावे आहेत. या ठिकाणी दरवर्षी प्रमाणे अनंत चतुर्दशी पासून पुढे गणपती विसर्जन पर्यंत यात्रा असते.
लेण्याद्री हे मंदिर लेण्यांमध्ये कोरलेले असल्यामुळे या ठिकाणाला लेण्याद्री असे बोलतात.
लेण्याद्री गणपती साठी तुम्हाला २५/- प्रति व्यक्ती प्रमाणे तिकीट काढावे लागते. लेण्याद्री गणपती जवळ बौद्ध लेण्या तुम्हाला पाहायला भेटतात. त्याचप्रमाणे जे गणपती मंदिर आहे ते पण एका लेणीमध्ये कोरलेले आहे त्या ठिकाणी केलेले कोरीव काम हि तुम्हाला पाहायला भेटते. हे ठिकाण डोंगराच्या मध्ये असल्यामुळे तुम्हाला पायऱ्या चढून वर जावे लागते. साधारण ३५० पायऱ्या चढून गेल्यावर तुम्ही मंदिरामध्ये पोहचू शकता. थोडे चढायला कठीण असल्यामुळे चढण्यासाठी वयस्कर लोकांना त्रास होतो त्यामुळे त्या ठिकाणी पालखीची सोय केलेली आहे पण त्यासाठी तुम्हाला ७००/- प्रति व्यक्ती प्रमाणे पैसे मोजावे लागतात. पण तुम्ही जर एवढ्या लांबून दर्शनासाठी जात आहेत तर एवढा खर्च तुम्ही करू शकता.
लेण्याद्री गणपती आणि ओझर गणपती मंदिरामध्ये साधारण १५-१६ किलोमीटर चे अंतर आहे. ओझर चे गणपती मंदिर हे कुकडी नदीच्या तीरावर वसलेले आहे त्याठिकाणी मंदिराच्या जवळच कुकडी नदीचा प्रवाह तुम्हाला पाहायला भेटतो. जर तुम्हाला बोटींगचा आनंद घ्यायचा असेल तर तो तुम्हाला त्या ठिकाणी घेता येऊ शकतो. तुम्ही जर अष्टविनायक यात्रा करत असाल तर तुम्ही एक दिवसाचा मुक्काम ओझर याच ठिकाणी घ्या, कारण या ठिकाणी भक्तांसाठी प्रशस्त असे भक्त भवन बांधलेले आहे. मला नाही वाटत कि कोणत्या अष्टविनायनकांपेकी अशी प्रशस्त व्यवस्था तुम्हाला पाहायला भेटेल. ३५/- प्रति व्यक्ती प्रमाणे तुम्ही या ठिकाणी राहू शकता आणि जर कुणाला वातानुकूलित वातावरणात राहायचे असेल तर त्या पण तुम्हाला भेटू शकतात पण त्यासाठी तुम्हाला ८००/- खोली प्रमाणे पैसे मोजावे लागतात. तुम्ही जर संध्याकाळी त्या ठिकाणी गेलात तर तुम्हाला २५/- रुपयांमध्ये महाप्रसादाचा पोटभर आनंद घेता येतो. या ठिकाणी बाप्पा च्या दर्शनांसाठी तुम्हाला विनाशुल्क प्रवेश भेटतो. मंदिरामध्ये गेल्यावर तुम्हाला मंदिराचे सुबक असे नक्षीकाम पाहायला भेटते.
तर मग कधी जाताय गणपती दर्शनाला ?

आज आपण आलो आहोत जुन्नर गावाजवळ असलेल्या अंबा-अंबिका लेण्या पाहायला. जुन्नर गावापासून जवळच अश्या प्रकारच्या बुद्ध लेण्या पाहायला भेटतात. लेण्यांमध्ये असलेले अंबा अंबिका देवीच्या मुर्त्या कोरलेल्या आहेत.
जुन्नर गावातून नारायणगाव रोड ने थोडे पुढे गेल्यावर वडज गावाकडे जाणाऱ्या रोडने पुढे गेल्यावर (१ - १.५ किमी ) उजव्या बाजूने असलेल्या रोड ने थोडे पुढे गेल्यावर लेण्यांपर्यंत पोहचता येते. जाताना पाऊलवाट असल्यामुळे तुम्हाला पुढचा प्रवास पाऊलवाटेने करावा लागतो. तीच पाऊलवाट तुम्हाला लेण्यांपर्यंत घेऊन जाते. रस्ता चुकल्यावर स्थानिक लोकांकडे चौकशी केल्यास मदत मिळते. जंगलातून जाताना थोडी भीती नक्कीच वाटते पण जंगलातून चालण्याचा आनंद वेगळाच मिळतो. जाताना २-३ लोकांनी सोबत जा कारण फार शांतता आहे आणि जंगलातून प्रवास असल्यामुळे आपल्या काळजीसाठी. साधारण १०-१५ मिनिटांमध्ये तुम्ही वर पोहचता. परिसर छान आहे. लेण्या पाहण्यासारख्या आहेत पण ज्या लोकांना अश्या गोष्टी पाहण्यामध्ये आवड आहे त्यांच्यासाठी. तुम्ही विडिओ मध्ये पाहू शकता. वर खाण्यापिण्याची कोणतीही सोय नाही त्यामुळे जुन्नर शहरातूनच खाण्या-पिण्याच्या आवश्यक गोष्टी सोबत घेऊन जा. त्याठिकाणी कोणत्याही प्रकारचा कचरा होणार नाही याची काळजी घ्या.

तुळजा लेण्या पुणे जिल्हयातील जुन्नर तालुक्याततील लेण्या आहेत. या जुन्नर शहरापासून ३ कि.मी आहेत. येथे तेरा लेणी आहेत. पैकी एक चैत्यगृह आणि उर्वरित विहार आहेत. तीन लेण्या अपूर्ण अवस्थेत आढळतात. या ठिकाणी दोन पाण्याची कुंड आहेत.
४ आणि ५ क्रमांकात विहार आहे. येथे खोलीत तुळजा देवीची स्थापना केलेली आहे. म्हणून यास तुळजा लेणी असे दिले गेले आहे. क्रमांक ८ ते १२ पर्यंतच्या लेण्यांमध्ये कलाकुसर आहेत. त्यात वेळबुट्टी चैत्यकमानी कोरलेल्या आढळतात.

भीमाशंकर लेणी (जुन्नर )
या लेणी आंबा अंबिका लंनी समुहापासुन १० मिनिटं अंतरावर आहे लेणी पर्यंत जाणारा मार्ग हा जंगलातुन जातो शक्यतो संध्याकाळी जाण्याचे टाळा.
मुख्य दरवाजा वर ३-४ मोट्ठी आगे मोहळ आहे त्यामुळे शांततेत जावे लेणी पर्यंत जाण्यासाठी वडज जुन्नर मागे आहे.
Access to the Bhimashankar Caves only seems possible via a path that runs south (to the left) of Amba-Ambika caves and traverses the hillside. Although these caves are clearly visible from the Junnar-Vadaj road, I don’t believe there is an easier way to successfully access them other than by this route.
As you walk along the side of the hill, you’ll encounter numerous simple cell excavations which will indicate you’re getting close to the main Bhimashankar Caves, which sit a little higher up from the path you’re on.

तुळजा लेणीसमूह (१ ते १२)
तुळजा लेणी जुन्नर गावापासून तीन किलोमीटर अंतरावर आहेत. मुख्य रस्ता सोडून पुढे पाऊल वाटेने जावं लागतं. या गटात एकूण तेरा लेणी आहेत. यापैकी एक चैत्यगृह आणि बाकी विहार आणि सामान्य खोल्या आहेत. तीन लेणी ही अपूर्ण अवस्थेत आहेत. या गटामध्ये दोन पाण्याची कुंडं असून इथे एकही शिलालेख आढळला नाही.
लेणी क्रमांक ४ आणि ५ लहानसा विहार असून त्याचा दर्शन भाग तुटला आहे. एका खोलीत तुळजा देवीची स्थापना केलेली आहे. यावरूनच या गटाला तुळजा लेणी असं नाव दिलं गेलं. क्रमांक ८ ते १२ पर्यंतच्या लेण्यामध्ये कलाकुसर आणि थोडीबहुत शिल्पं राहिली आहेत. त्यात वेळबुट्टी चैत्यकमानी सुबक कोरलेल्या दिसतात.
सह्याद्रीतल्या शिल्पकारांनी एकदा चैत्यगृहांचा आकार ठरवला तो एखादा अपवाद वगळता फारसा बदललेला दिसत नाही. कमानदार अश्वनालाकृती गवाक्ष, लंबवर्तुळाकारात खोदलेली गुहा, गजपृष्ठाकार छत, छताला आधार देणारे खांब आणि त्यावर लाकडी फासळ्यांची ओळ, आतील बाजूस भिंतीचा जवळ खोदलेला स्तूप अशी याची सर्वसाधारण रचना. जुन्नरजवळच्या तुळजा लेणीमध्ये मात्र गोलाकार चैत्यगृह आढळून येते.
पोहोचण्याचा मार्ग :-
जुन्नर नवीन बस स्थानक – श्री शिवाजी महाराज पुतळा – सोमतवाडी रोड – सोमतवाडीचा डोंगर – तुळजा लेणी
जुन्नर-आपटाळे रस्त्यावर उजव्या बाजुला असणाऱ्या पिंपळेश्वराच्या डोंगरात ह्या लेणी आहेत.

Pataleshawar Cave Temple
It is one of the old temple in Pune.
The construction of it was done in 8th century and rock dated to 700 - 800 Ad. So this is amazing temple which is carved in single rock. Also the bells in temple sounds amazing because of the echos generated from rocks.
So if you are in pune or planning to visit pune then do check this Temple out.
