Mala Wharf, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
A view of Mala Wharf, boat ramp and anchorage at Lahaina, Maui.
MalaWharf.com
The pier was destroyed in 1992 by Tropical Storm Iniki which developed into a hurricane the next day and hit Kaua'i on September 11, 1992.
Heavy surf and strong winds never made it a good location for a pier as it was intended for steamships when it was built in 1922.
It's a very good snorkeling and diving location, but be aware of strong currents and the occasional sharks, mostly white tipped reef sharks.

Lahaina Maui Hawaii Tender Boat to shore. Visiting Lahaina via Cruise Ship
Getting to shore at Lahaina Maui while on a Hawaiian cruise is easy. Most cruise ships use a tender ticket system to manage the rush of people trying to make their way ashore. The Celebrity Solstice hands out the free tickets and then calls out the numbers.
People with early excursions are allowed off the boat first and then people just going ashore can board the tender boats. Each Tender is rated for 120 people in an emergency but for regular tender duty they load them with about 100 passengers.
Lahaina Maui is one of the most popular ports on any Hawaiian cruise. Maui has a cruise port on the north side of the island but it's about 24 miles away from Lahaina and it's in an industrial area.

Hilo Tsunami Surges
Remaining surges from the tsunami at Wailoa State Park in Hilo, HI. This area of the pond is usually pretty still and I've never seen it like this. This was shot long after the all clear was issued and shows that a tsunami is a lengthy event.

Enjoy The Atmosphere Hawaii - Hotels In Maui Hawaii
Enjoy The Atmosphere Hawaii - Hotels In Maui Hawaii,
The American state of Hawaii is made up of several islands. The second largest is called Maui, and this piece of paradise is a beautiful blend of sophistication and small town charm. Romantics find Maui to be the perfect destination, but anyone who enjoys the splendors of natural beauty will be more than comfortable here. The island is served by Kahului Airport, and ferries can be used to access nearby islands.
The big tourist spots in Maui include the Hāna Highway, Haleakalā National Park, Iao Valley, and Lahaina.
The Hāna Highway runs along the east coast of Maui, curving around mountains and passing by black sand beaches and waterfalls. Haleakalā National Park is home to Haleakalā, a dormant volcano. Lahaina is one of the main attractions on the island with an entire street of shops and restaurants which leads to a wharf where many set out for a sunset cruise or whale watching journey. Snorkeling can be done at almost any beach along the Maui coast. Surfing and windsurfing are also popular on Maui.
The island of Maui is comprised of nearly a dozen cities. Each one offers its own slice of sea, sand, and sun, but some have come off as more popular than others. Accommodation lines the coast, with most major hotels found in Lahaina and Kaanapali. These city’s offer a destination catered to the traveling tourists with festivals, whale watching, and beach tours. From the cultural melting pot of Haiku to the luxurious resort areas of Kapalua, visitors to Maui can find the modern world nestled between the bliss of the rainforests.
As to be expected of an area with an abundance of natural wonders, nationals parks are aplenty. Consistently strong trade winds have made Maui the world capital of windsurfing. Canoeing, kayaking, and other water sports are popular activities of the area, and visiting the islands of Lanai and Molokai make for excellent day trips.
The main tourist areas are West Maui (Kāʻanapali, Lahaina, Nāpili-Honokōwai, Kahana, Napili, Kapalua) and South Maui (Kīhei, Wailea-Mākena). The main port of call for cruise ships is located in Kahului. There are also smaller ports located at Lahaina Harbor (located in Lahaina) and Maʻalaea Harbor (located between Lahaina and Kihei).
