Zia Village - Kos Island
Asfendiou is situated 14 kilometers south west of Kos Town at the mountainside of Mountain Dikeo. There are around 100 permanent residents and according to history the old village flourished between 1850 and 1940. Asfendiou thanks to viniculture and olive-crop has a very interesting architecture with two different “neighbourhoods”, Evagelistria or Pera Gitonia and Asomatos. Close to the village you can find the beautiful villages of Zia, Agios Dimitrios, Zipari, Tigaki, Linopoti and Lagoudi. Places worth visiting include the church of Asomaton Taxiarchon of the 11th Century with its wooden temple and the ruins of the Early Christian Basilica of Agios Pavlos (Saint Paul) just further away from the village.

Für Kinder gibt es einen Spielplatz mit Geräten und einige Tiere, die man zum Teil füttern darf. Direkt neben dem Spielplatz befindet sich eine kleine Taverne, mit Snacks und Getränken.
Weiter oben gibt es mitten im Pinienwald, die Möglichkeit, Mitgebrachtes zu grillen. Hier befinden sich Holztische und Hängeschaukeln mit einer atemberaubenden Aussicht.
Interessant ist auch der Kräutergarten, sowie die Beschilderung der heimischen Pflanzen und Kräuter.

The Zia natural park with a great view on to the ocean and the island.
For children there is a playground with equipment and some animals that you can feed. Located next to the playground is a small tavern, with snacks and drinks. Further up at the middle of the pine forest, there is an opportunity for barbecue.
Here are wooden tables and hanging swings and you have a stunning view. Also of interest is the herb garden with signs of the local plants and herbs. Admission for adults € 3.00, children 1,50 €

Pyli Village - Kos Island
Pyli is located 15 kilometers south-west of Kos town and about 4 kilometers south of Marmari, and has 2.500 permanent residents. In the past its name was “Peli” and it is built in the centre of the island in verdurous lowland with big olive trees and lots of green. The beautiful traditionally built stone houses, counting a few hundreds, surround the central square along with the traditional coffeehouses and the small taverns complete Pyli’s daily life. Here you can find the Pyliotiko Spiti (Pyli’s House) an old house with three rooms, where the kitchen, the living room and the bedroom are still preserved just as they were in the past, with original furniture and little things, as left by its owners 70 years ago. At a distance of 100 meters from the house there is a spring of cool water, flowing from 6 fountains and right beside the spring, you will see the ancient vaults, which, according to tradition, are related to the local hero of the island. Right next to the small church Stavros (Holy Cross) stands the impressive Charmilion, a complex of burials dated to the Hellenistic period and also related to the worship of the local hero and his descendants. 2 kilometers before arriving to Pyli, there is a small artificial lake, which is used to water the plains’ cultivations.

A walk through Zia Village on Kos island. The traditional mountain village of Zia is located approximately 14 kilometers (9 mi) southwest of Kos town on the Greek island of Kos. This is probably the most picturesque mountain village of Kos that keeps to its traditional character. The small, white houses with blue doors and windows are built in an amphitheater-like manner on the rocks. Natural hot springs at Therma Beach on Kos Island - Kos attractions
Kos attractions - We are at the natural hot springs found at Therma Beach on the Greek island of Kos in Greece. Its July at the height of summer and many tourists and locals have made the journey to visit the hot springs today. The Therma Beach springs are located 13 kilometers outside Kos Town in the south eastern part of the island. You can get to the Therma (also called Empros Thermens) by car, scooter, motorbike, public bus or rented bicycle.
I do not recommend the bicycle ride from Kos Town, unless you are very fit. My wife and I attempted the ride the day before and the springs where much further than we had anticipated. The combination of the steep mountainous roads, very hot sun and the fact that we did not know where the Therma Beach was made us turn around. The bicycle ride was beautiful and we had some breathtaking views from the mountain (we must have been within 1 kilometer of the hot springs beach). I must mention that we are both very used to long bicycle rides of 15+ kilometers so that is something to think about if you plan to bicycle ride there.
We chose to take the public bus to Therma Beach. We took the Number 5 bus from Kos Town Main Terminal (Akteon) all the way to the Therma Beach at the top of the mountain. Be aware that there is a long walk down the mountain (very well worth the walk) to the beach where the springs are, so make sure you have a bottle or two of water to drink, you will need that for both the walk down and up the mountain.
The hot springs where fantastic. The locals have gathered rocks and made a large ocean pool in which the hot water is contained and cooled down by the waves gently breaking into the pool. The water from this natural hot spa is said to be very therapeutic and full of natural minerals such as sulfur, calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium which I have heard is apparently considered instrumental in cures for skin arthritic or rheumatic diseases (whether true or not, lying in this hot natural Jacuzzi is a relaxing experience and indeed one of Kos Islands must see tourist attractions.
The walk up to the bus stop at the top of the mountain is hot and rather steep but you are rewarded with an ice cold drink at one of the little restaurants at the top, next to the bus stop. In the video watch out for the goat who decided that the bus stop was the only available place that had shadow and therefore he took all the space, the rest of us had to find shade in one of the restaurants.

Zia is a charming village that lies at the base of Mount Dikaios, the highest mountain on Kos. The village has kept its traditional feel, but has become a tourist attraction and is sometimes overcrowded. The upper edge of the village is still quite authentic and absent of tourist shops. The village is surrounded by forest, is quite humid and much cooler than other areas of the island. Hiking around Zia is plentiful. You can reach amazing lookout points where you can see neighboring islands, Kalymnos and Nisyros as well as Turkey. There are plenty of taverns and cafes in Zia, and it is most known for the incredible sunsets.
