Krabi Thailand Kayak Tour. Kayaking in Krabi at Thalen Bay, about 30 minutes from Ao Nang
New Thailand videos every Wednesday. Subscribe: Kayaking in Krabi Thailand at Thalen Bay. One of my favourite tours in Krabi, and it's a cheap tour.
Thalen Bay (sometimes spelt Thalene Bay or Tha Lane Bay) is about 30 minutes from Ao Nang and is accessible from Phuket. It is one of the main kayaking areas in Krabi Thailand. The bay is not far from Koh Hong Island and has the best views to the other nearby Krabi islands.
At Thalane Bay you will kayak through mangrove forest and through canyons that are surrounded by limestone cliffs. It is very beautiful! The mangrove forests are rich in wildlife, you may see fish, birds, giant monitor lizards, otters and monkeys. The forests are relatively cool and shady making it the perfect tour for hot days in Krabi. A variety of kayak tours are available, full day, half day, private tours and sunset tours with a BBQ on the beach are all possible.
Thalen Bay kayaking is definitely one of the worthwhile things to do if you travel through Krabi Thailand, or if you are staying in Ao Nang, it's one of the best things to do in Krabi.
Subscribe to my channel if you want more videos on what to do in Ao Nang and Krabi, and Thailand in general. New Thailand videos posted regularly about Krabi hotels, resorts, villas and restaurants, Thai food, Thailand markets, street food, holidays, tourism, accommodation, tours and Thailand travel.
If you're looking into Thailand Hotels have a look at hotels and resorts in Krabi. The islands and beaches of Krabi are famous for Thailand holidays, the movie The Beach was filmed on a Krabi's Koh Phi Phi Island.
Krabi is about 2-3 hours from Phuket by land or sea, and has world class accommodation standards comparable to what you find in Phuket hotels and resorts, but in a more relaxed environment.
Mangrove Kayaking Tour in Ao Thalane! - Ao Nang, Thailand 2019
More to do in the lovely Ao Nang area! We had heard about a day excursion for Kayaking and wanted to try it out, and were not disappointed. We also get to see one of the most relaxing sunsets, although we have been finding quite a few lately!
The kayaking day trip was a great way to get to explore the more rural side of Krabi and Ao Nang. You get picked up and dropped off at your accommodations which makes the process that much smoother and easier not having to pre-plan any transportation or anything. So it was up in time for pick up and we were off. The drive to the kayak location in Ao Thalane was beautiful. This whole area has the standing rock cliffs just like you would have seen in the previous video jutting out of the water by Railay. So unique seeing dense jungle and then cliffs going straight up in the middle of no where.
Once we had arrived at our destination, they provided us with a nice little meal to fill up on and gather some energy before touring the local ocean, mangroves and cliffs in Ao Thalane. Early on we even saw a massive jellyfish that was quite the specimen. We started cruising along the face of the cliffs and got to go into a little cove. From there we hung out on the sand while everyone took pictures and climbed on the ledges, and then it was back to the ocean. After a bit more paddling we got over to the mangroves and the real journey began.
The mangroves are unique in that they actually grow straight into the salt water. Not too many plants would do well in pure water, let alone the fact it was salt water. The guide told us that if we had been there when the tide was even lower that monkeys come out of the mangroves on to the sand bars and actually eat the crustaceans as a large part of their diet, but we didn't see any on the land. Once we started through the entrance into the forest there was one point where we had to paddle with a little extra effort as the tide was still going out, pushing all the water out of the area we were heading. It was manageable but one couple got the guide to help get them through with a tow rope as well, so that is an option at least.
Gliding through the mangroves felt so calm being in complete nature, away from all the hustle of tourists and taxis. The cliffs provided shade and were a marvel as well. We got to check out a few little caves through the forest section and at one point had a little monkey following after us that likely wanted to jump on. The guide said they will to look for food and just stay calm if they do but we managed to keep just enough distance that we didn't have to get into that situation. They were not dangerous but better safe than sorry, no stow aways!
After a good amount of time sailing through the marshes in Ao Thalane we came to a cool sandbar the guide got us to stop at and take a break. The sand was fun to play in as it was like quicksand, easy to sink in. So we splashed around here a bit and enjoyed being the lovely nature and calmness. After everyone was all settled and ready to move on it was just a short kayak ride back to the start where we returned the kayak and took the transportation back. Nice fresh breeze in the back of the truck and some more views with sunset approaching and it was back to our condo.
Then the next day it was time to catch up on some laundry and chores. As we mention, the washing machines tend to take 10 baht coins unless you're lucky enough to find one that takes 5s as well so save them if you plan on doing coin laundry! Then later we walked back to the beach, had some smoothies and a tasty bite to eat at our little spot and caught another wicked sunset. The main beach in Ao Nang is popular for sunsets, but if you head to the north end, and then go up the stairs there you will find the path we took to the concrete viewing platform. It was much less busy there, plenty of ledges to sit on and even a little art exhibit set up over there as well. So we enjoyed the beauty of Thailand with the long tail boats zooming around in the distance.
In the next video from there we prepare for the well known 4 Island tour of Ao Nang. It is again pre planned with pick up and drop off and you take a boat to 4 different well known islands, and was super cool so stay tuned Saturday for that.

Kayaking in Ao Thalane’s Beautiful Mangroves - Thailand
I put the telescopic pole to my GoPro camera inside my life jacket, and when I'm paddling you can hear a rustling sound. Sorry about that. Ao Thalane about 20 km from Krabi Town, is a bay with incredibly beautiful mangrove forest (perhaps the most beautiful in all of Thailand) with limestone karsts, canyons and hidden lagoons.

Don't Skip Out On Railay! - Ao Nang, Thailand Travel Vlog 2019
Ao Nang was the COOLEST small town in Thailand so far! We walk the beautiful beaches and enjoy the scenery of some stunning cliffs amazing race style as I refer to them. We also take a long tail boat ride over to the famous Railay beach and spend the day walking the Island.
*** New videos on Saturday, and now WEDNESDAY as well so be ready!
After leaving Koh Tao and taking a ferry back to mainland, it was on to a bus to Krabi. Krabi is a bigger city above Ao Nang and even has airport access if you choose to fly in. We then took a bus from Krabi to Ao Nang and settled in to our AirBnB condo which was probably our nicest one yet. (Besides the fact the darn neighbours must have had a family of roosters but you get used to that... A little ha.)
Ao Nang has stunning landscapes with rocks shooting straight up out of the ocean and all over on mainland even, it really is quite a sight to see. The locals here were some of the nicest we had met and we instantly felt settled in to our new home. A short walk from our condo got us to the main beach area where there is all sorts of local food vendors and merchants as you would expect. We did find one corner little food market on the way though that had some of the best food we've had in Thailand, right on the corner near our house. The spring rolls may have been the best in my life. There was also a smoothie shack that sold good sized smoothies for 30 baht which was a steal at just over a dollar Canadian. The beach itself in Ao Nang wasn't a popular one for swimming but still had a few spots, however we mainly just walked it and went to the tidal pools and watched the crabs.
They may not have the best swimming beach IN Ao Nang, HOWEVER, for 200 Baht ($8) round trip you can take a fun long tail boat ride to the famous Railay beach. This area was stunning. The boat ride in you go close and past some of the standing rocks out of the water, and then after maybe 5 minutes you're there. This little tourist paradise has a great selection of little restaurants and places to grab a drink off the beach, huge stretches of sand, monkeys, hiking to view points and probably even more. There are even resorts we saw located over on Railay which must be by boat access that looked beautiful.
Once on Railay, we walked the main beach that was pretty populated in tourists and all the boats coming and going to drop people off. We knew there was Railay East as well opposed to the west side we were on so we took off to check that out as well. On the way through the beautiful village we saw 10+ monkeys all playing and jumping off the roofs and that was a pleasant surprise for us as the animal lovers we are. Was not expecting to suddenly see monkeys, bonus. After exploring the village we got to Railay East which was really just a shallow muckier looking beach with a long dock out to a few boats coming and going. I believe it was used more so for the Resorts on the Island to get their guests too and from Railay.
Still trying to find the best spot to swim we pushed on as we also knew on the tip of the area there was one more beach besides East and West beach, Phra Nang beach. The walk there took you under the cliffs and past a very popular rock climbing spot on the Island. We even saw a different species of smaller, short black haired monkeys so we had to watch them too of course. Arriving at Phra Nang, it was amazing. Less busy than Railay West, nice sand and super clear, warm water. We spent a good chunk of time just floating and enjoying how beautiful it was surround by all of the cliffs right beside you and one out of the ocean. I would recommend swimming here to escape the busyness of Railway West and also less boats pull in to this beach. (however some still do from tour groups, we do too in a coming soon video for the 4 island tour we took!)
We swam right up until it was time to head back, and we ended up leaving ourselves only roughly 15 minutes to navigate our way back and catch the boat back to Ao Nang. Luckily we found the way back and made it right near the end, as the last boats leave at 6:00p.m that is included as part of your round trip ticket you buy before coming over.
Hope you guys enjoyed checking out Railay and getting introduced to Ao Nang as much as we enjoyed it there! Be sure to catch our next video WEDNESDAY now as well where we take a kayak tour around the mangrove forests in the area and see some more beautiful areas and sights in the lovely Ao Nang.
Thanks for tuning in and we'll catch you all Wednesday next, woohoo for 2 videos a week now right? haha.
Cheers friends,
Luke & Alysha
