A Walk Around Gare de Lyon Part Dieu, Lyon, France
Gare de la Part-Dieu is the primary railway station in Lyon, France. It is situated on the Paris-Lyon-Marseille railway. The train services are mainly operated by SNCF with frequent TGV high-speed and TER regional services with Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn also operating a few services through the station. Lyon's secondary station is Gare de Lyon-Perrache south of the city centre.
The station was constructed in 1978 as part of the new Part-Dieu urban neighborhood project. As the planners intended Part-Dieu to act as a second city center for Lyon, the large train station was built in conjunction with a shopping center (the largest in France outside Île-de-France), a major government office complex, and the tallest skyscraper in the region, nicknamed Le Crayon (The Pencil) due to its shape. Before the construction of the Gare de la Part-Dieu, the neighborhood was served by the Gare des Brotteaux. It closed in 1982 and its operations were absorbed into this station.
While Part-Dieu is routinely the busiest, five other stations operate in Lyon: Perrache (in the city center), Lyon-Vaise, Saint-Paul, Gorge de Loup, and Jean Macé Station.
In spring 2018, major reconstruction and refurbishment works began to rebuild the entire station and its near surroundings by 2022. As of December 2018, the former entrance building has been already partly torn down.
The station has significantly surpassed its initial traffic expectations, from a moderate 35,000 passengers a day in 1983 to 80,000 passengers on 500 trains a day in 2001. Because of the increased traffic, the station was renovated from 1995–2001 to increase the number of platforms and alter the exterior. In 2010, the station served roughly 51.1 million passengers, approaching 140,000 for an average weekday.

A lot of effort has been put in building the shaft, but the lifts are starting to feel old and rattling. They could have installed faster models and smarter leveling, because these lifts are quite slow for this height and get easily busy. The floor numbering has changed since my last visit, and they've put newer buttons.

Quick stop at Lyon's Biggest Mall : La Part-Dieu
I needed to buy some clothes since I was running out of the essential ones. This mall is the closes shopping center to me and it just so happens to be the biggest mall in Lyon! I spent too much time in just 3-4 stores, so I didn't get to explore the whole mall yet. They have a ton of different brands I have never heard of but also the well-known expensive brands too. A lot of the stores sell surprisingly cheap clothes and other fashion products too.

Let’s walk in Lyon, France - #1 Part-Dieu District
We are in Lyon, the second city of France. You will watch in this video, a fast journey in Part-Dieu business district.The train station is one of the most important station of the country. The second part of the video is shoot in the shopping mall next to the station. At the end of the video, I go to the Halles Paul Bocuse, a large market where you can find local gastronomy.

I just LOVE these elevators ! Kone Quality at its best ! Fast, beautiful and efficient !
At the beginning of the video, you can see the other bank of elevators, which are Otis Gen2 :
You can notice the secret maintenance door between floors -1 and 1. The indicator even shows 0 for that door ! I'm sure it leads to the metro level.
PS : I got busted when I was trying to film these elevators again, in November 2013. I'm trying to avoid this parking garage now. there are no retakes planned for a moment...

Old Otis (rebuilt by TK) Traction elevators - Galeries Lafayette, La Part-Dieu Mall - Lyon, France
These were very nice Otis Black button elevators, sadly they are modernized !
I used to ride them weh I was younger, I can still remember how they were : beautiful, with posh wooden-paneled cab, lamp indicators, acoustic bells, and an American-Style COP ! Nowadays the outside lamp floor indicator and the callbutton holes have been covered up, the cab has been rebuilt, shaft components too. The doors tightness is the only remaining clue from the original Otis installation.
There's a staircase going above 4th floor, I'm sure there are some interesting things there...
