Na Lio Maui - Live Show with horses located in Lahaina
MAUI'S NEWEST SHOW
BY Marla Braun-Miller, Owner/Creator
08-29-2015
It's not a luau, a rodeo, or a dinner cruise. Maui's Newest Show is the creation of Marla Braun-Miller. It is called Nā Lio, the story of the horse in Hawaii. Nā Lio, pronounced NAH LEEYOH, means the horses (plural) in Hawaiian. This presentation is located at Kahalawai Farms and Stables, the only equestrian facility in Lahaina. Guests are shuttled from the Nā Lio Gift Shop located at the Lahaina Gateway, near Barnes and Noble, to the farm. Once on property, everyone will enjoy the beautiful sunsets West Maui is known for and a beautiful pre-show of Maui Hulas.
When the show starts, guests will join Uncle, the story teller, around the campfire after a long day of cattle work. He will take everyone back to the arrival of the first horses in Hawaii. During this journey, you will discover how the Hawaiian Cowboys, or Paniolo, came to be and how the horse became a part of Hawaiian culture. With song and hula, the story of the horse in Hawaii comes to life on stage and in the arena. The horses and riders of Nā Lio help us tell this story with riding demonstrations showcasing the training and harmony that Kahalawai Farms & Stables teaches to visitors, students, and horses.
There is nothing like Nā Lio in the State of Hawaii. Descendants of these Paniolo are honored to have this story told. We found that not many residents of the islands knew how rich and influential the story of the horse was to the Hawaiian Culture. This Story is not only the history of the horse but the history of Hawaiian music, hula, and blending of cultures in the Hawaiian Islands.

Lahaina Banyan Court Park
Lahaina Banyan Court Park is a public park located at the corner of Front Street and Canal Street in the town of Lahaina, Hawaii, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1820 to 1845. The 1.94 acres (0.79 ha) park, also known as Lahaina Courthouse Square and commonly called Banyan Tree Park, contains multiple heritage sites on the Lahaina Historic Trail, and a self-guided walking tour through the Lahaina Historic Districts.[1]
The park occupies the site of the Old Lahaina Fort, originally built in 1831. Hoapili, the Royal Governor of Maui, built the fort to protect the town from riotous sailors when Lahaina was used as an anchorage for the North Pacific whaling fleet.[2] After the fort was demolished in 1854, a courthouse was built on the site. A portion of the old Lahaina Fort was reconstructed in 1964. The old Lahaina Courthouse was recognized as a contributing property of the Lahaina Historic District in 1965, and is currently used by the Lahaina Arts Council and the Lahaina Historic Society.
Sheriff William Owen Smith planted an Indian banyan tree in the courtyard square in 1873 to memorialize the 50th anniversary of the first American Protestant mission in Lahaina. The banyan tree has become the largest banyan tree in Hawaii, and one of the largest banyan trees in the United States. Its extensive trunk and aerial root system now covers 0.66 acres (0.27 ha). The park is managed by the County of Maui and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.

Hana, Maui, Hawaii
Hana town on Maui is one of the most remote and beautiful places in the Hawaiian Islands. Here we focus on the town itself, the friendly people of Hana, Hawaii, beaches, food, shops and amazing scenery. Unlike so many videos about Hana that only look at the Road to Hana, we show you what happens once you get to Hana itself. This village on the scenic east end of Maui is worth a closer look. You would enjoy spending a few nights here to soak up the scenery, meet the people, treat yourself to excellent foods, and explore the nearby attractions. Maui nō ka ʻoi
