Last Chance Mining Museum in Juneau, Alaska
The Jualpa Mining Camp, also known as the Last Chance Basin Camp, is a former gold mining camp, just outside the city of Juneau, Alaska. Its main building is now operated as the Last Chance Mining Museum by the Gastineau Historical Society. The camp was located on the southern banks of Gold Creek, about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Juneau, near what is now the end of Basin Road. The camp was the site of one of the largest gold finds in the Juneau mining district. It was established between 1910 and 1913 by the Alaska-Juneau Gold Mining Company and operated until 1944, producing more than $80 million worth of gold. The largest surviving structure of the camp is its air compressor building, which was 84 feet (26 m) long, and still houses the compressor used by the company. Also surviving are a variety of railroad-related resources, which the company used to bring or to its mill on the Gastineau channel, an electrical transformer house, powder magazine, and cable hoist.

Mendenhall Glacier is a glacier about 12 miles (19 km) long located in Mendenhall Valley, about 12 miles (19 km) from downtown Juneau in the southeast area of the U.S. state of Alaska. The glacier and surrounding landscape is protected as the 5,815-acre Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, a federally designated unit of the Tongass National Forest.[2]
Originally known as Sitaantaagu (the Glacier Behind the Town) or Aak'wtaaksit (the Glacier Behind the Little Lake) by the Tlingits, the glacier was named Auke (Auk) Glacier by naturalist John Muir for the Tlingit Auk Kwaan (or Aak'w Kwaan) band in 1888. More info:

Goodbye Alaska... for now! Salmon Glacier Was The Icing On Our Alaska Adventure Cake! As we are heading back to the lower 48 we get one more magnificent glimpse at Alaska in Hyder. And Salmon Glacier turned out to be one of the most stunning, magnificent sites we’ve ever seen... even if we did see it through tears in our eyes!
As we continue our trek back to the lower 48 from our trip of a lifetime in Alaska we get to explore the beauty all along the Cassiar Highway. We think you’ll agree that we saved the best for last! Glaciers are something we haven’t really seen that much until our trip to Alaska. We’d heard from friends that Salmon Glacier was the most stunning to see from land and all we can say is WOW! Salmon Glacier was an experience we will never, ever, never forget. Top that off with the salmon at Bear Creek and getting to watch a big black bear standing up to eat leaves right in the town of Hyder. Hard to top that experience for sure!

Alaska Travel Adventures: Historic Gold Mining & Panning Adventure in Juneau
Catch gold fever and experience what it was like to seek your fortune during Gold Rush days! Learn to pan for gold (and keep all you find!), and discover Juneau's colorful mining heritage for yourself.
Head out with a prospector/guide in authentic 19th-century dress for a historical tour of Juneau including the state capitol. Then, turn up the road to Gold Creek and Last Chance Basin, where Joe Juneau and Richard Harris struck gold in 1880.
In a beautiful, secluded setting near a waterfall alongside Gold Creek — only accessible under our tour's special permit — your prospector shows you how gold panning is done. Then, it's your turn, as you learn how to expertly work the pan with helpful tips and advice. You can choose to pan in the creek, or in the waist-high demonstration trough. Every one of all ages and those with limited mobility can learn how to pan and capture the full gold-rush experience. You're guaranteed to find gold! And, all that glitters is yours to keep.
Around you are remnants of the original buildings of the Alaska-Juneau Mining Company, which at the height of production was the largest operation of its type in the world. You'll learn about the mining techniques that were used, and more about the quest for gold that is so much a part of Alaska's history.
Take home a souvenir Orelove Brothers Gold Claim Certificate, all the gold you find, and an appreciation of what is was like to seek your fortune in the wilds of Alaska more than a century ago.

Juneau- True alaskan beauty! Whales, bears, nugget falls, mendenhall glacier, seaplane ride and more
Enjoy this beautiful seaplane view from 1400ft over the misty fjords of Alaska . The summer is exciting here.. Several cruise ships like carnival cruise, Norwegian Cruise line, royal Caribbean cruises , Disney cruises , princess cruises etc move some ships from may till September every year to Alaska and take millions of tourists to cruise the inside passage!! Alaska offers many Tours and packages. The ships leave from Seattle and goto Vancouver. Most of them stop in Ketchikan, Skagway and Juneau in Alaska. Some stop in Haines too. Ketchikan is the first city of Alaska. Popular for the totem poles. Great place to go bear watching. And also take a seaplane ride over the misty fjords. Skagway is great for the train ride through the valley to Canada and back. It's the town where the gold rush took place and has a lot of historical significance. Don't miss the famous red onion salon and the Broadway show there. Juneau is the most popular for Whale watching Tours. You are assured to see humpback and may also bump into a pod of orcas or killer whales as they're called. The Mendenhall glacier is just 15mins from downtown. You can also take a helicopter ride to one of the glaciers and they also have a dog sledging tour.
