Les salariés du réseau de transport en commun de l'agglomération caennaise étaient appelés à débrayer pour la deuxième fois en moins d'une semaine ce mardi 23 avril. Les syndicats estiment que le nouveau réseau de tramway impacte les conditions de travail des employés.

Toute l'actualité sur Avec les fortes chaleurs qui sévissent sur l'Hexagone depuis plusieurs semaines, de violents orages ont éclaté ce lundi à Caen, provoquant une large inondation. Pas de victimes mais d'importants dégâts matériels, notamment pour les commerçants de la ville.

Caen is a port city and capital of Calvados department in northern France's Normandy region. Its center features the Château de Caen, a circa-1060 castle built by William the Conqueror. It stands on a hill flanked by the Romanesque abbeys of Saint-Étienne and Sainte-Trinité, which both date from the same period. The multimedia Mémorial museum is devoted to World War II, the 1944 Battle of Normandy and the Cold War.
Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, Caen – capital of the Basse Normandie region – was 80% destroyed during the 1944 Battle of Normandy. Rebuilt in the 1950s and ’60s in the utilitarian style in vogue at the time, modern-day Caen nevertheless offers visitors a walled medieval château, two ancient abbeys and a clutch of excellent museums, including a groundbreaking museum of war and peace.
Caen is a college city and thus very active. In summer, tourists (mainly British and German) gather in Normandy for Second World War remains and the Memorial for Peace. Caen is a modern city, four-fifths of which was demolished in 1944 and rebuilt in the 1950s and 1960s. However, some old buildings remain, especially churches.
The bus verts will get you around Normandy easily. Within Caen and its close suburbs, use the bus and tramway network, called twisto. Alot to see in Caen such as :

The hill birds of Caen is a green area of 17 hectares located north of the ring road of the city , in the district of Madness Couvrechef and close to the Peace Memorial . It was inaugurated in 1994. In 1923 , the municipality bought land south of the hamlet of La Folie in order to establish a landfill. For fifty years, the garbage of the city are unloaded there and two hills 35 and 25 meters are formed gradually.
After World War II, new districts, such as Green Path or Folie-Couvrechef , are created in the outskirts of Caen to face significant population growth and the discharge is soon at the gates of the city. InJanuary 1973, The waste incinerator of Colombelles is operated and Franck Duncombe, appointed in 1971 deputy mayor for the environment, decided to transform the old landfill, rendered useless by this new equipment in park.
The site was finally inaugurated in 1994 to commemorate the 50 th anniversary of D-Day. The original and successful valuation makes it a favorite place for families. The park is extended to the east by the Memorial of the valley , green space in former quarries of Caen stone .

Caen est une ville du Nord-Ouest du département Calvados en Normandie.
Elle est nommée la « Ville aux cent clochers ». Cité de Guillaume le Conquérant et capitale du duché de Normandie avec Rouen, la ville a hérité d’un très riche patrimoine architectural en partie détruit lors de la bataille de Caen. La ville a gardé la mémoire de ce moment clé de la Seconde Guerre mondiale en édifiant notamment un Mémorial pour la Paix, célèbre dans le monde pour les cérémonies de commémorations qui y ont lieu.
Du fait de son positionnement dans la recherche (avec le Ganil par exemple), de l'ancienneté de son université (fondée en 1432 après celles de Paris et Montpellier), de sa grande richesse culturelle (ville d'Europe la plus pourvue en librairies indépendantes et agglomération française la plus dotée en équipements culturels rapportés au nombre d'habitants) et de son caractère festif, Caen est souvent considérée comme étant la capitale culturelle et intellectuelle de la Normandie.
Peuplée intra-muros de 106 260 habitants, Caen est la commune la plus peuplée du département du Calvados. Elle est au centre d'une agglomération de 196 355 habitants (3e après Rouen et Le Havre) et à la tête d'une aire urbaine de 405 409 habitants (2e de la région après celle de Rouen et au 23e rang national). Elle est le siège de la communauté urbaine Caen la Mer, qui avec 262 501 habitants, est le second plus important établissement public de coopération intercommunale de Normandie après la Métropole Rouen-Normandie.

The Mémorial de Caen is a museum and war memorial in Caen, Normandy, France commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen. The building and grounds are located in the northern suburbs of the city of Caen on the site of an old blockhouse. The architect was Jacques Millet and the original curator was Yves Degraine.
The memorial is dedicated to the history of violence and intensive, outstanding conflict in the 20th Century and particularly World War II. The museum was officially opened on June 6, 1988 (the 44th anniversary of D-Day) by the French President François Mitterrand. The original building deals primarily with World War II, looking at the causes and course of the conflict.
The museum was subsequently extended:
In 1991 a gallery dedicated to the Nobel Peace Prize was added
Three memorial gardens, The American Garden, The British Garden and the Canadian Garden were dedicated to the three main allied nations involved in liberating France. An extension focusing on the Cold War and the search for Peace was opened by President Jacques Chirac in 2002. It comprises neutralized warheads, planes and a fragment of the Wall of Berlin.
