RV LIVING-EXPLORING THE CALIFORNIA CHINA WALL-DONNER SUMMIT, TRUCKEE,CALIFORNIA-NEAR LAKE TAHOE-EP74
RV LIVING-HIKING CALIFORNIA CHINA WALL AT DONNER SUMMIT IN TRUCKEE CALIFORNIA-NORTH OF LAKE TAHOE. In 1865, the Central Pacific Railroad was trying to lay railroad tracks east to meet tracks that were being layed west by the Union Pacific Railroad. To decrease rising costs, and increase productivity, the CPRR hired 50 Chinese laborers as a test to see if these “smaller” workers could cut it. These workers proved to be so superior, that eventually 12,000 would be employed. The tunnels saw their first trains in 1868, and their last in 1993. We visited these tunnels in June 2019. Visiting in the months of July and August would be even better!

Truckee Rafting - Tahoe California
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan,Maggie and Kate spend a relaxing day rafting the Truckee River in Tahoe California. The Truckee River flows out of Lake Tahoe at a nice leisurely pace and is the perfect family adventure on a hot day. several rafting companies rent rafts and equipment in Tahoe City but you can also float the river on your own. The scenery is beautiful and the river is clear and refreshing. It's perfect for swimming and a picnic. You can bring your own coolers or the family dog. We saw ducks, geese, fish and a black bear swam right in front of us. It was incredible. The five mile trip ends at the River Ranch Resort where you can catch a bus or taxi back to Tahoe City. Rafting the Truckee is a must for every family who visits Lake Tahoe.
SEDONA AZ TO THE SOUTH RIM! VIA GRAND CANYON RAILWAY-WILLIAMS, AZ-EP44
While in Sedona AZ we road the Grand Canyon Railway train to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The 1.5 hr drive to Williams AZ had to happen in the early am, because our train boarded at 9am sharp!
We took the bus excursion at the canyon that included lunch. If we could do it over again, with the limited time at the canyon, I would take the bus excursion WITHOUT lunch included.
We were on the Mary Coulter Luxury Parlor Train at $226/each.We would pick this same car again.

Chapter 1: Oakland to Reno
Part 1: Me vs. The Morris
Part 2: Whale Watching in Reno
Part 3: The Weight of Adventure
This is the first of an 8 part series documenting my travels across the US, starting in Oakland and ending in my hometown of Chicago. It took over a year to edit this series!! I asked myself what kind of videos do I want to see on this platform? and I decided I would make this the answer to that question, with no compromises. If I didn't know how to make an idea a reality- I taught myself what I needed to know to make it happen. I'm extremely proud of the result and excited to share it with y'all.
This is also special as it's the first of my weekly uploads. Starting now I'll be putting up one new video every wednesday for the foreseeable future. I'm excited for what's to come!

California Road Trip: 4 Days on Highway 395
Highway 395 road trip through Mammoth Lakes, June Lake, Bishop and Bodie in 4K
Highway 395 is one of my favorite roads in California. There are so many amazing hikes, lakes, restaurants, historic spots and photographic opportunities all up and down the drive. Amie and I were invited by Yosemite Gateway Chalet to spend 4 days exploring, and we jumped at the chance. This video focuses on the area from Mammoth Lakes to June Lake but shows lots of other spots you can explore around those areas as well.

Places to see in ( Reno - USA )
Places to see in ( Reno - USA )
Reno is a city in the U.S. state of Nevada, located in the western part of the state, approximately 22 miles from Lake Tahoe. Known as The Biggest Little City in the World, Reno is famous for its hotels and casinos. It is the county seat of Washoe County, in the northwestern part of the state. The city sits in a high desert at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and its downtown area (along with Sparks) occupies a valley informally known as the Truckee Meadows. It is named after slain Union Major General Jesse L. Reno.
Reno is the third-most populous city in Nevada after Las Vegas and Henderson and the most populous city in the state outside the Las Vegas Valley. Before the late 1950s, Reno was the gambling capital of the United States, but Las Vegas' rapid growth, American Airlines' 2000 buyout of Reno Air, and the growth of Native American gaming in California have reduced its business. Older casinos were torn down (Mapes Hotel, Fitzgerald's Nevada Club, Primadonna, Horseshoe Club, Harold's Club, Palace Club), or smaller casinos like the Comstock, Sundowner, Golden Phoenix, Kings Inn, Money Tree, Virginian, and Riverboat were either closed or were converted into condos.
Because of its location, Reno has traditionally drawn the majority of its California tourists and gamblers from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, while Las Vegas has historically served more tourists from Southern California and the Phoenix area.
Several local large hotel casinos have shown significant growth and have moved gaming further away from the downtown core. These larger hotel casinos are the Atlantis, the Peppermill and the Grand Sierra Resort. The Peppermill was chosen as the most outstanding Reno gaming/hotel property by Casino Player and Nevada magazines. In 2005, the Peppermill Reno began a $300 million Tuscan-themed expansion.

Historic California Emigrant Trail by Jeep
In June, 2019, nine of us in five Jeeps left California for Idaho to retrace the historic California Emigrant Trail. The group was based out of the Mud, Sweat & Gears 4x4 club of Sonora, CA.
(A great amount of credit for this trip goes to the leaders of our expedition, Robert & Terry Easley. Bob put many hours into laying out the route that three of his great uncles had taken in 1850 to the California gold fields. Only one of the uncles survived to return east again.)
The California Trail was an emigrant trail of about 3,000 miles across the western half of North America from the Missouri River to what is now California. It took five years of labor to find and develop a route that could handle settlers and their wagons before it was opened.
The first half of the California Trail followed the same corridor as the Oregon and Mormon Trails, along the Platte, North Platte, and Sweetwater rivers to Wyoming. In what is today Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, the California and Oregon trails split into several different cutoffs.
Starting in late 1848 until the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869, more than 250,000 businessmen, farmers, pioneers and miners passed over the Trail to California.
The traffic was heavy enough that in just two years the new settlers added so many people to California that by 1850 it qualified for admission as the 31st state with 120,000 residents.
Ruts from wagon wheels and names of emigrants, written with axle grease on rocks, can still be seen in the City of Rocks National Reserve in southern Idaho.
Excellent and interesting resources are available for information on the Trail. Our favorite source is
Trails West has over 700 markers delineating over 2000 miles of emigrant trails stretching from southern Idaho and Utah, across Nevada, and into California and Oregon. They produce and sell driving guides to most of the trails the emigrants used to enter California and southern Oregon.

A Parade of Power at the Nevada State Railroad Museum - July 4th, 2016
During yet another excellent Fourth of July at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, three Beautifully restored vintage steam engines and a McKeen Motorcar were operational. Carson & Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Co. #1 The Glenbrook was under steam and shuttling back and forth between the Annex and the Wabuska Depot, coupled to an 1882 Carson & Colorado Railway flatcar, which in the coming months will be used as a trailer for giving rides behind the locomotive. This weekend was an excellent display for the Nevada State Railroad Museum, it is well worth a visit.

Volcanic Off-Roading: Mogollon Rim to Cinders to Jacob Lake! Part 4 - Ultimate Adventure 2017
Part 4 of Ultimate Adventure 2017. We awoke on Day Five to a stunningly panoramic view from our campsite high atop the Mogollon Rim. With all of Arizona laid out below us we drank in the scenery before mounting our 4x4s and heading for Flagstaff, Arizona, to wheel one of the coolest natural features in the area. The Cinders area is just what the name implies: huge mounds of volcanic cinder, or less specifically, volcanic lava pebbles. With huge, towering mountains of cinders several hundred feet high and sprawling over a wide area, the group was turned loose to explore and hammer down on the throttle. Making sure to stay well clear of any vegetation, pretty much any line is allowed here so the rigs with more horsepower put on a really good show. And those that didn’t have power to spare put it in Low Range and did their best to putt up the steep slopes. With some fun under our belt, we hit the road because we still had over six hours to get to our campsite at Jacob Lake. On Day Six we awoke at 8,000-foot campsite and hustled over to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for a Griswold view of the rim and then aired down for 180 miles of dirt adventure driving, including a visit to the Grand Canyon at its most remote location accessible by motor vehicle. After that, it was more dirt into the night.
