A rare Bridled Burrfish in Leinster Bay, Virgin Islands National Park, St John, VI
It is unusual to see a Bridled Burrfish around St John. They are smaller than the much more common Porcupinefish and have dark patches above their pectoral fins.
Caribbean Two Spot Octopus in Leinster Bay, Virgin Islands National Park, St John
This very small octopus was first seen hiding near a long-spined black sea urchin. It clearly displayed the two false eye-spots characteristic of the Caribbean Two Spot octopus. These animals would be easy to overlook and may be rarely seen rather than rare.
Lionfish in Leinster Bay, St John, Virgin Islands
Following the extremely destructive hurricanes that hit St John in September 2017, there has been an increase in the abundance of

Many enslaved Africans swam this channel to freedom.
Surviving St. Johnians later returned after the King declared the Danish Virgin Islands Emancipated. The Moravians worked the fields with the Africans who used the conch shell, drum and Dutch Creole, secretly taught by the Moravians to help organize the first enslaved African Rebellion at the top of Fortsberg in Coral Bay Harbor down the way. Please learn your VI History before you come, it will be that much more an enriched experience. These are some strong people and welcoming. Though it is USVI, they have their own customs. Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Night or Good Evening must come before the please's and thank you's. Virgin Islanders work together and love one another.
The Queen emancipated her slaves first. St. John, VI was still filled with evil plantations. We are still in a drought, there is a ban on open fires.

Deer at Cinnamon Bay - St. John, Virgin Islands National Park
This video gives you a glimpse at some of lesser known residents of St. John, the white-tailed deer!
Occasionally visitors to the Virgin Islands National Park may see small herds of these deer and it's always an exciting photo opportunity for anyone visiting the National Park. The white-tailed deer were first brought to St. John in the the late 1700's and again in 1937 as part of the Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937.

St John's USVI Caribbean hike
St. John is an idyllic tropical island in the Caribbean known for it's great beaches and hiking trails. While over half the island is national park, I decided to go off the trails and forge my own path. My goal was to start my trek on the souther part of the island (Fish Bay) and work my way to Camelberg Peak in Virgin Islands National Park, one of it's highest points. During mid hike, I was forced to reconsider my route and found myself taking a very different, but extremely satisfying course on this USVI hike. See the video for the whole story.
Best Hiking View in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
Best Hiking View in St. John, Virgin Islands - Have you ever seen something for the first time and it took your breath away? Yes, this one did for us - the view from the American Hill Trail in St. John, US Virgin Islands.
It is a short steep trail that branched off from the Cinnamon Bay Trail. Go inside the Cinnamon Bay Trail and in little less than a mile from the start, you will see a sign for the American Hill. Just keep an eye for it. Watch the video and you will see how the sign looks like. It is worth the extra mile (round trip) that you will hike.
If you have some extra time to hike this trail, I highly recommend it. To me, this should be under Top 10 things to do in St. John, US Virgin Islands or Top 10 Hikes in St. John.
Also, in this video, we mentioned some things we have been learning about the sugar cane plantation industry on this island back in the day. It tells us so much history. We believe it is important to know the history of the place to fully appreciate it.
This is truly a national treasure. We hope, we the people can do much more to protect our natural treasures.
WHO ARE WE?
We, Irwin and Victorina, have decided to quit our jobs, sell everything we have and go on an epic road trip of visiting all U.S. National Parks! Follow our journey - from letting go of our material possessions, preparing for the extended camping trip, and even the mistakes, joys, doubts and adventures we make along the way! We hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of Planet Earth.
Adventure begins in Feb 2017. We estimate this road trip will take us approximately 12 to 16 months. We know we will some amazing places and meet a lot of interesting people.
If you have an idea or suggestions for us for places to visit along the way, feel free to contact us!
NEW VIDEOS every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. If we miss a day, it is probably because we had no phone signal inside the park or we couldn't find any wifi access. If this is the case, we will upload our video as soon as we get any phone signal.
