Why is Philadelphia So Expensive?
Why is Philadelphia so expensive? At first thought you may not expect Philadelphia to be an expensive tourist destination, but think again, especially if staying in the downtown area of Philadelphia. Average hotels in downtown Philly start at around $200 and range to as high as $1000. Also the tax rates in Philly are high.

Today, Boone is one of the most misunderstood figures in American history. This is mostly due to how he was portrayed later in books in the 19th century, and in numerous comic strips, radio shows, and films in the 20th century. Then of course, there was this TV show about him that was popular in the 1960s. The actor in that show, Fess Parker, basically acted like the same way he did in a previous role, playing Davy Crockett. Needless to say, the show was not historically accurate AT ALL.
Daniel Boone was born on November 2, 1734 in what became Berks County, Pennsylvania, today an hour’s drive from Philadelphia. His parents, Squire and Sarah Boone, were Quakers who escaped persecution for their religious beliefs back in England. Daniel was a middle child, sixth of eleven children. The family lived just down the road from future President Abraham Lincoln’s ancestors. In fact, Abraham Lincoln’s great-grandfather, also named Abraham Lincoln, married Daniel’s cousin Ann.
As a kid, Daniel spent most of his time at the edge of the frontier, often taking his family’s cattle out to graze. He loved wandering in the woods with those cows. He regularly interacted with the nearby Lenape Indians, who the Quakers as a whole had a good relationship with. Daniel actually learned how to hunt from the Lenape, in addition to other local settlers. He got his first rifle at the age of 12, and by 13 he was regularly providing meat for family meals. One time a panther leapt right at him and he calmly cocked his rifled and shot him through the heart. Yeah, that probably didn’t really happen, but the fact that that story got around is evidence Daniel had quite the reputation as a skilled hunter.
Daniel never attended school, but family members did teach him how to read and write. Later, his go-to books were The Bible and Gulliver’s Travels. In 1750, Squire Boone moved the family to North Carolina, settling in the Yadkin River valley, near what is now Davie County. This was again an area at the edge of the frontier. Daniel joined the local militia to help defend the settlements from various local American Indian tribes.
When North Carolina governor Matthew Rowan called for a militia during the French and Indian War, Boone, now 20 years old, volunteered. He served under General Edward Braddock as he led forces to attack at Fort Duquesne, a French military post located at present-day Pittsburgh. George Washington, future President but at the time a young colonial militia leader, was also on that march. Boone worked as a wagoner, meaning he was one of the dudes who drove the horse-drawn wagons. On the trip, Boone met and befriended a trader named John Findley. Findley had lots of experience trading with different groups of American Indians and had traveled quite a bit.

The Truth About George Washington
George Washington was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States of America after winning the American Revolutionary War as the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.
Washington was first called Father of his Country three years after the beginning of the Revolutionary War – a status he earned not only for his military accomplishments, but also because of the numerous virtues he was perceived to possess as a human being.
But within Washington's impeccable character, one quality stood out the most – a unique immunity to the corrupting effects of power, which stemmed from his selfless nature. I often say of George Washington that he was one of the few in the whole history of the world who was not carried away by power, stated Robert Frost, America's great poet-philosopher.
After overthrowing the tyranny of the British Empire, Americans were unwilling to trust anyone with the power of a central government, yet in George Washington they saw a man who had transcended human fallibility. Had he lived in the days of idolatry, the Pennsylvania Journal noted in 1777, Washington would have been worshipped as a god.
How could such a man ever abuse his power, let alone become a tyrant? Furthermore, if men like Washington exist and can be elected into power, perhaps the United States government would never follow in the footsteps of the hated British Empire.
Does the mortal George Washington live up to his immortal legend? What is the Truth About George Washington?

The Life of Harriet Tubman for Kids | Learn facts about Harriet Tubman | Black History Month
February being Black History Month we will show you, in this kids video some interesting facts about the Life of Harriet Tubman.
We will learn about who she was as well as how she helped to shape America.
Harriet Tubman was born a slave on a plantation in Maryland. Historians think she was born in 1820, or possibly 1821, but birth records weren't kept by most slave owners. Her birth name was Araminta Ross/ SHe changed her name to Harriet around the time of her marriage, possibly to honor her mother.
Life as a slave was difficult. Harriet first lived in a one-room cabin with her family that included eleven children. When she was only six years old, she was loaned out to another family where she helped take care of a baby. She was sometimes beaten and all she got to eat was table scraps.
Later Harriet worked a number of jobs on the plantation such as plowing fields and loading produce into wagons. She became strong doing manual labor that included hauling logs and driving oxen.
• When Harriet was twelve years old an overseer threw an iron weight at her and struck her in the head… she was standing up for another slave… for the rest of her life she suffered from blackouts and headaches.
During this time there were states in the northern United States where slavery was outlawed. Slaves would try to escape to the north using the Underground Railroad. This wasn't a real railroad. It was a number of safe homes (called stations) that hid slaves as they traveled north. The people that helped the slaves were called conductors. Slaves would move from station to station at night, hiding in the woods or sneaking onto trains until they finally reached the north and freedom.
Tubman escaped slavery in 1849 and headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, using the Underground Railroad for her escape. Once she was there, she set about a personal mission to help other members of her family to escape, which eventually became a mission for all other slaves.
In 1850 the Fugitive Slave Act was passed. This meant that slaves could be taken from free states and returned to their owners. In order to be free, slaves now had to escape to Canada. Harriet wanted to help others, including her family, to safety in Canada. She joined the Underground Railroad as a conductor.
Harriet became famous as an Underground Railroad conductor. She led nineteen different escapes from the south and helped around 300 slaves to escape. She became known as Moses because, like the Moses in the Bible, she led her people to freedom.
Harriet was truly brave. She risked her life and freedom to help others. She also helped her family, including her mother and father, to escape. She was never caught and never lost a slave.
Harriet's bravery and service did not end with the Underground Railroad, she also helped during the Civil War. She helped to nurse injured soldiers, served as a spy for the north, and even helped on a military campaign that led to the rescue of over 750 slaves.
After the Civil War, Tubman returned to Auburn, New York. Her father died in 1871 while her mother passed nine years later.
On March 18, 1869, Tubman married Nelson Davis, a former soldier and brickmaker.
As Tubman aged, the head injuries sustained early in her life became more painful and disruptive. She underwent brain surgery at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital to alleviate the pains and buzzing she experienced regularly. Tubman was eventually admitted into the rest home named in her honor. Surrounded by friends and family, Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia on March 10, 1913 at the age of 93. She was buried with military honors at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn.
Harriet Tubman, widely known and well-respected while she was alive, became an American icon in the years after she died. A survey at the end of the 20th century named her as one of the most famous civilians in American history before the Civil War, third only to Betsy Rossand Paul Revere.
Hope you enjoy this Harriet Tubman biography.

U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 5)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues with opening arguments from House managers and the President’s defense team.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 24, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
Opening arguments in President Trump’s impeachment trial began on Jan. 22 in the Senate. House managers, led by Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), will present three days of opening arguments. Then, senators will have 16 hours to ask questions in writing. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. will read the questions out loud, and the appropriate side — defense or prosecution — can answer them.
President Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.
