Lisbon's Beach Resort, CASCAIS, PORTUGAL // PT17 ep.4
Hi everyone! In this next episode of the PT17 series, let's go to the beach! The most popular beach near Lisbon is called Praia de Carcavelos, easily reached by a direct train from central Lisbon towards Cascais, getting off at Carcavelos station and then a 10 minute walk, (just follow the other people!) It's got everything you would expect of a good beach - overpriced sunloungers for rent, (guilty!) parasols, plenty of cafes and bars serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, soft golden sand and surprisingly cold water.
If you get bored and fancy a change of scenery though, get back on the same train and ride to the end of the line - Cascais. This very pretty little town looks like a sleepy fishing village that developed into a tourist hive with several hotels, international big-brand restaurants, souvenir and boutique shops and pretty little streets with a Portuguese flair for those al fresco evenings. Highly recommended if you like to be well-catered for in a peaceful and beautiful area while on holiday, but want the buzz of Lisbon within a half hour train ride!

Sintra, Portugal: A Day Trip from Lisbon
My hostel in Lisbon took a day trip to Sintra, Portugal. We spent a full day in Sintra, visiting Quinta da Regaleira, Azenhas Do Mar, Praia da Adraga, and Cabo da Roca, and driving by the iconic Pena Palace (although we didn't get to go in). Even though my solo trip to Lisbon was in early May and Portugal was a bit chilly, our day trip to Sintra was absolutely amazing and Quinta da Regaleira in particular was an incredibly unique experience.
Our Sintra Portugal Tour was operated by the hostel I stayed at GoodMorning Lisbon during my solo trip to Lisbon. I'll be sharing a review video of GoodMorning Lisbon at a later time (although, spoiler alert, this quickly became my favorite hostel in the world after spending four nights there).
You MUST visit Sintra for one day if you're staying in Lisbon, Portugal! If you're looking for things to do in Lisbon, have an extra day or two while on a solo trip to Lisbon, or want things to do in Portugal while you're on holidays, be sure to either book an all-day Sintra tour or rent a car and stop along the points in this video. Our Sintra day trip from Lisbon was one of my favorite memories of my solo trip to Lisbon.

Lisbon residents flee to beaches to avoid scorching temperatures
(3 Aug 2018) Thousands of residents in the Lisbon area fled to the surrounding beaches to avoid scorching temperatures, reaching 42 degrees Celsius (107 F) in the Portuguese capital.
Eight locations in the center, south and east of Portugal have broken their local temperature records amid a heatwave that is pushing temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius (113 F), the country's weather agency says.
The highest temperature recorded Thursday was 45.2 degrees Celsius near Abrantes, a town 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast of the capital, Lisbon, the IPMA (Instituto Portugues do Mar e da Amosfera, or Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere) said.
Temperatures in Portugal were forecast to keep increasing nationwide on Friday, to around 45 degrees, and to peak at 47 degrees (116.6 F) in some places on Saturday.
Portugal's highest ever recorded temperature was 47.4 degrees (117.3 Fahrenheit) in 2003.
Emergency services have issued a red alert, placing extra services such as medical staff and firefighters on standby through Sunday.
Temperatures were being driven higher across the Iberian Peninsula by a hot air mass moving northward from Africa, which is also bringing dust from the Sahara Desert, meteorologists said.
The dust gave the sky a dark yellow hue in some places.
Summer temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius (104 F) are not unusual in southern parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
