Lisbon Full City Guide - Travel in Portugal - Travel & Discover
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders under Afonso Henriques reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal.

00:00-00:19
- Hi, everyone, this is Maria from travelguidelisbon.com, and this video is about the hop-on hop-off bus tours in Lisbon. I'm going to talk about which one is the best option, the prices and schedules, and what the tour includes and what it covers.
00:29-00:43
- Now, there are plenty of companies offering hop-on hop-off bus services in Lisbon. The two most popular ones are the Yellow Bus Company and the City Sightseeing Company. That is the one with the big red buses.
The Yellow Bus Company 00:49-01:21
- First, I'm going to describe the Yellow Bus Company simply because that's my favorite choice. I think they offer the best value for your money.
- Now, the Yellow Bus Company, it uses big yellow double-decker open-top buses, where you can listen to the commentary in 12 different languages. The Yellow Bus Company has two main routes in winter, and three routes in summer season. (...)
The Yellow Bus Tagus Route 01:26-02:06
- So the three routes of the Yellow Bus are the Tagus route, the Olisipo route and the Belem route. Now I would start with the Tagus route, because that's the one which starts in the old historic city center of Lisbon and covering all the main attractions there and then it drives off to the Belem district and covers all the main attractions there, such as the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery.(...)
The Yellow Bus The Olisipo Tour 02:11-03:05
- The Olisipo tour is the route which also starts in the old historic city center of Lisbon but then it drives off to a different direction to a district called Parque das Nações. This is a modern area of Lisbon which was built for the '98 World Exposition which was held in Lisbon and this area is also packed with some top attractions such as the Lisbon Oceanarium or The Vasco da Gama Bridge but you will also find here, cable car, The Pavilion of Knowledge or it also stops at the Azulejos Museum on the way here (...)
The Yellow Bus Duration 03:06-03:26
- The duration of the Olisipo and the Tagus route is more or less one hour, forty minutes (...)
The Yellow Bus Belem Summer Route 03:28-04:30
- The third route of the Yellow Bus Company is called the Belem route. Well, this one runs only in summer season, and this is a complimentary tour to the Tagus route. Because this is a tour of Belém, so it's a little bit more detailed tour of Belém not only on the waterfront, but if you go all around behind the buildings and smaller streets, it will stop at the Maritime Museum or the National Museum of Coches and such places (...)
The Yellow Bus What is included 04:35-05:31
- So how much does it cost with the Yellow Bus Company? So the ticket costs 22 euros 50 for an adult (...) So the price of 22 Euros 50 cents includes 48 hours of hop-on hop-off bus services, the Santa Justa Elevator, The funiculars and trams of Lisbon, that includes the famous Tram 28, which is the sightseeing tram of Lisbon, and funiculars, as well, such as the Gloria funicular. Then the price also includes Aerobus ticket (...)
City Sightseeing Bus (Red Bus) 05:37-05:51
- The second company I'm going to talk about is the City Sightseeing Company. That's the one which are using the big red buses. They are also double-decker and up on top where you can listen to the commentary in 12 different languages.
City Sightseeing Bus The Blue and Red Lines 05:57-06:58
- They have two routes, the blue line and the red line. The red line is the one which explores the old historic city center of Lisbon, and then it drives off to Belém and explore the Belém and all the main attractions there. (...)
- The Blue Line is the one that also starts in the city center, but then it drives off to Parque das Nacoes to explore that area and its attractions. (...)
City Sightseeing Bus Price 07:03-07:30
- So how much does it costs? Well a ticket for an adult costs 22 Euros in the winter season (...). But this price is for 24 hours, so this ticket is for one day only.
City Sightseeing Bus 25% Discount Lisban Card 07:35-07:47
- If you have the Lisboa Card, you will receive 25% discount on the price of the hop-on hop-off buses of the red buses, from the City Sightseeing Company ticket.
A few last tips 07:52-08:20
- So that's about it for today. Please visit our website travelguidelisbon.com where I have also prepared a comparison table for you between the Yellow Bus and the City Sightseeing bus company, where you can compare them (...)

2. MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Have you been to Lisbon? It’s an incredible food city. And recently we launched our first Devour Tour there - our Tastes & Traditions of Lisbon Food Tour. And to celebrate it, I decided to make a video along with Ellis Dixon, our wonderful local operations manager and Lisbon expert. Get ready, because this Lisbon food tour is delicious!
So, where did we go?
1. Confeitaria Nacional: This place has been open since the early 1800s and it’s a fantastic place to start your day - a bica (espresso) and a pastry surrounded by gorgeous turn-of-the-century decor.
2. Ginjinha Sem Rival: I love this tiny little shop where you can get a bottle of Portugal’s famous cherry liqueur - and also take a shot of it at the bar. This place has been going since 1840!
3. O Trevo: You have to eat a bifana sandwich when you’re in Lisbon. It’s simple, but delicious - stewed pork, and then you douse it in piri piri sauce and yellow mustard. And this was the place Anthony Bourdain visited!
4. Casa Pereira: I love how this old shop smells like coffee, tea and chocolate. And the walls are lined with incredible bottles of port. So if you want to grab a bottle of port while in the city, this is your place!
5. Trobadores: This place is straight out of Game of Thrones. And despite seemingly a little tacky, it’s actually a place locals come to. You can drink mead (fermneted honey) and grill chorizo sausage right at your table!
6. Bonjardim: Piri piri chicken is famous, and if you’re going to get it in Lisbon (and you should), this is the place! The chicken was so deliciously juicy, and the skin fabulously spicy.
7. O Gaiteiro: I love a good old school restaurant. And in Lisbon these tascas the best spots to order grilled fish: sardines, salt-cold and octopus. O Gaiteiro is a place we visit on Devour’s Lisbon food tour and it’s fantastic - great food, full of local clients.
8. Sol e Pesca: This former fishing shop still looks like… a fishing shop. Apart from the enormous display of canned fish. And please, don’t be afraid of canned fish - it can be absolutely delicious, and this is the place to try it!
9. Manteigaria: Custard tarts are everywhere in Lisbon, but not all custard tarts are created equal. These ones from Manteigaria have a wonderfully crispy and flaky pastry, and custard is like delicious molten lava. A plus, you can watch them making them through the glass window.
3. WHO AM I? ????

Come with me on a self-guided walking tour of historic Lisbon, Portugal. We'll see its Baxia neighborhood, nestled between 2 of Lisbon's many hills. We'll take a funicular up to a scenic overlook of the city. We'll explore ruins left by the great earthquake of 1755, which leveled two-thirds of the city. And finally, we'll tackle the steps to the top of the 148-foot tall steel elevator in Barrio Alto for a look over the city that extends all the way to the waterfront.

LISBON: A City You Will Fall In Love With | Portugal Trip Part 1
Our massive Portugal road trip starts here in Lisbon, the capital and the largest city of the country. During our 4-day stay we explored the main tourist area near Praça do Comércio as well as the neighboring Alfama district, the oldest district of the city, with its steep, narrow, cobblestoned streets and charming atmosphere.
Next day we had some fun on the using the local public transportation as we visited Belém, an old district west of central Lisbon and a setting for many of the capital's most iconic and important tourist attractions, most importantly the Belém Tower which played an irreplaceable role in the Portuguese maritime discoveries.
We also found our way into the Lisbon's famous Mercado da Ribeira, considered one of the best places to eat in the city, serving some of the most typical dishes from the best local chefs.

Looking Around in Lively Lisbon
While filming in Lisbon this week it kept occurring to me that this city is so interesting, you can turn on your camera almost anywhere and create a fun, stream-of-consciousness video clip. Check this out.
(By the way, when we first got to town, we hired a little three-wheeled tuk-tuk like the one in the video to scout all the scenes we planned to film — €50 per hour and lots of fun.)
(This is Day 42 of my 100 Days in Europe series. As I travel with Rick Steves’ Europe Tours, research my guidebooks, and make new TV shows, I’m reporting on my experiences in Italy, Portugal, France, Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, and more. Follow along at
Tips for Lisbon, Portugal

-Getting from the Airport to the City center of Lisbon: :10
-Where to Stay: 0:55
We stayed at Travellers House Hostel:
-Foods to Try: 1:55
-What to Do: 5:09
Best Neighborhoods In Lisbon to stay in:
1. Baixa-Chiado
This is the heart, the center of Lisbon located near the Praça do Comércio, and surrounded by attractions, cafes and restaurants, public squares, and plenty of transportation options. One of the benefits of staying at a hotel in Baixa-Chiado is that you can walk to many places and you’ll be right in the center of Lisbon action.
2. Santo Antonio
The area of town opens up more with more space and it’s home to Avenida da Liberdade which is a huge tree lined boulevard known for shopping and designer brands.
3. Barrio Alto
Barrio Alto is a beautiful hilly district of Lisbon where you’ll find narrow lanes and plenty of local culture. There are many restaurants, cafes, and bars, tucked within Barrio Alto, and it’s also known for being one of the centers of Lisbon nightlife.
4. Alfama
Being the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon, Alfama has a beautiful charm to it and is home to a few of Lisbon’s most famed attractions like the Lisbon Cathedral.

[4K] LISBON, PORTUGAL WALKING TOUR- Restaurant and shopping area
How do we afford to travel so often? We're lucky enough to stay for almost free in every city, using
Explore Lisbon's central shopping and restaurant area as if you were there, in this 4k tour.
We start at the intersection of Largo do Chiado and R.Garrett, in the district of Baixa-Chiado by the entrance to the Chiado Metro station.
We walk past two famous statues, Escultura de Fernando Pessoa and Estátua de António Ribeiro before heading down this pretty Lisbon shopping area.
Sometimes, one of the best things to do in Lisbon is to walk it's charming streets. The Bertrand Bookshop on the corner of R. Anchieta is covered in stunning blue tiles, and it leads us down to the Armazéns do Chiado shopping centre at the end of the street.
Here we turn left down R. do Carmo to see the famous Santa Justa Lift (Elevador de Santa Justa) crossing above us.
Folowing R. de Santa Justa we cross the busy R. Áurea and head down Rua dos Correiros - where we see some great restaurants and more beautiful tiled buildings.
Turning onto R. Augusta with it's intricately tiled pavement, our eye is led towards the great arch known as Arco da Rua Augusta.
