Olha as gaivotas tão longe do cabo...
O tempo passa, o corpo acabado,
A chorar.
Ó Portugal!
Estende e dá-nos a mão, abre o teu coração, Portugal. Ó Portugal!

The MOST FAMILY FRIENDLY Place in the World?? Traveling with Kids in Portugal /// WEEK 88 : Portugal
We hope you will LIKE our video and COMMENT below. We always love to hear from YOU!!
Hello from Portugal! We really enjoyed our time in Portugal! The people, the food, the beach, the architecture, the history.. were all just incredible.
We worked with Martinhal and experienced two of the most impressive family resorts ever! We stayed a few nights in Lisbon enjoying the city. Martinhal provides incredible child care so Garrett and I were able to go out on a date night through Black Tomato. Black Tomato helped us arrange a bucket list evening out exploring the city on motorcycle sidecars and then finished the evening at a Michelin star restaurant, Alma.
We took the train down to the southwest coast of Portugal to Sagres. We enjoyed the warmer weather and many of the activities that Martinhal offers.
Also, earlier this week we announced that we are gifting 3 different families trips for Christmas. We will be flying all over the United States to surprise them and gifting them Southwest flights, Marriott Rewards, GoPros, adventure bands, new luggage, and more! You can nominate your own family or another family here : thebucketlistfamily.com/tblf-is-coming-to-town.
Thank you Portugal for the very warm welcome and THANK YOU Martinhal for an incredible family adventure!
Happy Travels,
The Bucket List Family

Alfama walking tour in Lisbon
We are going to take you on an extended walk through the Alfama, the old section of Lisbon, capital of Portugal. Strolling through Alfama is one of your great experiences in coming to Lisbon so don't miss this opportunity. A great time to come is late in the afternoon, early evening when folks are out socializing, visiting, shopping. And it's generally a pedestrian zone – there are a few motor scooters and mopeds of course, but most of these lanes as you can see are quite narrow and cobbled and just ideal for strolling. Lisbon, Portugal is a great place to visit. Here are the five things you will love and hate about visiting Lisbon.
Five Hates:
1. The Crazy Drivers: be careful crossing the street, driving, standing on the street corner the Portuguese are little rally drivers, so be careful.
2. Dog poop on the slippery streets: Watch your step walking around town as the slippery when wet cobblestones or piles of dog poop will get you.
3. Restaurants closed from 3-8pm.
4. No good medium or cheap accomodation.
5. Drug dealers on rua da Augusta (pedestrian street) they will harrass you and ask you again and again. It is disgusting.
Five Loves
1. Cheap eats and shopping.
2. Great weather
3. Going out in Bairro Alto, having drinks and a good time there at night.
4. Cheap good transport: buses, trams, metro, and even the taxis are cheap.
5. Easy access to beaches.

HORRIBLE TWO DAYS: Solo Travel with My Toddler in Lisbon, Portugal
Our beautiful time in Lisbon took a very difficult turn--these were our hardest, worst days by far. I lost my US SIM card, accidentally locked my Portuguese SIM card, locked my kid and myself out of our apartment WITH NO SHOES ON, and then I shut my daughter's fingers in a door. If it could have gone wrong, it went wrong. And no one was coming to save me.

The History of Portugal by WanderTooth. We spent about 2 months in Portugal and found the stories of its history fascinating. From the first settlers, the Romans, the Moors, all the battles won and lost, Kings, Queens and other nobility and eras of dominance followed by eras of oppression. All of this has shaped the Portuguese people, from the food they eat, to the songs they sing, to they way they interact with others and so on. A visit is highly recommended and there is something for everyone. Landscapes, castles, Roman ruins, Port wine tasting, Fado music, beaches, and more. And being a relatively small country, everything is easily within reach! GO! ENJOY!

The capital of Portugal, Lisbon (Portuguese: Lisboa) has undergone a renaissance in recent years, with a modern culture that's alive and flourishing and making its mark in today's Europe. Perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is one of those rare Western European cities which faces the sea and uses water as a component that defines the town.
WHAT TO DO

Have a walk in the lush gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation among Europe's most prestigious cultural associations. Have a look at the Gulbenkian Museum (which is also an architectural landmark in itself) and its classical art collection; the newer Gulbenkian Modern Art Museum and the concert hall with a continuously ongoing programme of jazz, classical and world music. Throughout the summer, concerts are held at the Gulbenkian gardens' open-air theater. Have lunch or dinner in LX Factory
Love a jazz concert and beverages at the Hot Clube de Portugal (phone: +351 21 3619740) - Portugal has a thriving jazz scene, the middle of which is the Hot Clube de Portugal - one of the oldest jazz clubs in the world, situated in Praça da Alegria, near Avenida da Liberdade.
Different hiking paths around Sintra Cascais Natural Park:Spend 1 day around nature, hiking in the UNESCO World Heritage Site -- Sintra! You'll walk through luxuriant woods achieving panoramic views of the shore, Lisbon, and all of the Sintra Mountains as well as the palace.
The Mãe d'Água (Mother of the Water) reservoir of the Amoreiras, the biggest of the water reservoirs, was completed in 1834.
Belem neighbourhood:
Belem Tower (Torre de Belém). Open 10AM-5:30PM in winter, 10AM-6:30PM in summer (with the previous entry allowed 30 minutes before closing ). A ticket package for the Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery is offered for $12. Bear in mind that access to the peak of the tower, and intermediate floors, is through a very narrow, steep spiral stairs. Entry fee for the tower just is $5.
Jeronimos Monastery

Statue into Afonso de Albuquerque. In front of the former Royal Palace of Belém, now the Presidential Palace, there's a enormous statue looking out to sea, representing Afonso de Albuquerque, next ruler of Portuguese India from the early 16th century.

Visit Portugal: 5 Things You Will Love & Hate about Portugal
GRAB SOME WOLTERS WORLD GEAR
The Best & Worst of Visiting Portugal
Hate #1. The Eating Times: Portuguese restaurants close their kitchens from 3PM until 7 or 8PM each day. That means if you get peckish for Porco Preto or salivating for Sardines at 5 or 6PM you are out of luck. You can get small snacks and the fast food joints are open, but the traditional fair is not available. This will really upset you traveling while you are in Portugal especially if you have kids with early bed times.
Hate#2. Paying for Bread and Olives: This is just an annoyance you may notice on paying your bill at a restaurant. The tasty looking bread, olives, BUTTER, sardine paste, cheese, ham, etc You have to pay for each of them separately. Yes, that means that pad of butter your dad wants to eat costs him something more. And if you are looking at the cheese and ham realize that they will cost more than your actual meal.
Hate#3. Drug Dealers in Lisbon: This is something even the locales hate. Drug dealers on the pedestrian streets and in the bar districts asking everyone and anyone to buy hashish or worse. They come up regardless of the time of day or people you are with. I have been asked for drugs while I was pushing my son around in his stroller (he was 3 at the time), and my mom (grandma) was offered drugs as well. Just say no and be forceful with it as they will follow you and ask you again and again.
Hate #4. Portuguese Drivers: My Portuguese friends like to tell me there is a little rally driver in each Portuguese. The problem is that means the roads are quite dangerous and that includes the sidewalk. Walk around Porto or Lisbon and you will see. Especially scary for parents with small children.
Hate # 5. Service: Now, not all service is bad in Portugal, if you find a family run restaurant (tasca) or store you will be pleasantly surprised. But the chain stores and restaurants have service that will turn you off of shopping. So, be prepared. The minimum wage is only about 450 euros per month, so that may explain a bit.
And then there are things you will love about Portugal.
Love #1. It is Cheap!! Comparing to any other western and some eastern European countries Portugal is extremely affordable. Whether it is eating out, public transport or drinking your wallet will love your visit to Portugal almost as much as you will!
Love #2. Wine and Food. Portuguese wine is amazing and affordable, if you want to learn how to love wine Portugal has them all, great reds and whites, their green wine (young white) is to die for and of course the world famous Port Wine from Porto. The food here is great as well, whether it is the great selection of seafood or pork or sweets Portuguese food is dang tasty!
Love #3. Nice People: Portugal has amazing people and when you get to know them they become even more affable and friendly. They will invite you to their home or even their grandmas village just to show you a good time in their country. They will let you know the best restaurants and are glad to share. Amazing people.
Love #4. They Speak English. Portuguese are great at English, not only do a majority of the youth (under 40) speak it, they speak it well. And even over 40 you will find a lot of older people that tourist will be in contact with will speak at least workable English. This is helpful regardless of where you are from as English is the international language.
Love #5. The Country. You will love the sites, the history, the everything about Portugal. There is so much to see and do and I just do not have enough space here to write or time on video to explain, but believe me whether it is surfing in Sagres, hiking in the Serra da Estrela, Celebrating Santos in Lisbon, Portugal will be a great trip you will remember forever.
Soultravelers3- Drawing in Lisbon, Portugal
Our 7 year old Mozart decides to take a moment out of our touring Lisbon & draws from life ...the famous Torre de Belem! ( Unesco World Heritage Site). She loves to draw and is quite prolific and fast.
We love using art as part of our homeschool education as we travel. Kids learn a lot about what they draw.
Actually, I will color it the colors I want, that way it is colorful!
