Bonjour! It’s Day 17 of my 100-day trip to Europe, and I’m exploring Lyon — France’s number-three city (after Paris and Marseille). Join me in this clip as local guide Virginie Moré shows us how you can step off the streets of today and into the past — if you know about the “traboules.” History hides out, and you just need to know which doors to open.

Lyon is a very old city in France which dates back to 43 BC. This city has a rich cultural heritage and attracted tourists from many parts of the world. However, Indian travelers are not very aware of this beautiful city. This video is based on a trip to Lyon.
This is the first day of my travel on a 9-day long trip. In this video, I have explored many important attractions in Lyon. Some of the important tourist attractions are

This is the third video of the France series where I have explored the modern Lyon and a beautiful free walking tour. Places to see in ( Pezenas - France )
Pézenas is a City of Art and History boasting a beautiful heritage: numerous mansions of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Lacoste mansion, the Malibran mansion and the Alfonce mansion succeed one another. Beautiful paved streets lined with craft workshops cheer up the stroll. Besides, Pézenas is unusual in that it has been Molière's place of residence of in the 17th century.
The House of Art professions, situated in the former consular house, is dedicated to know-how and art professions. At the beginning of June, « Pézenas Sous le Regard de Molière » is a festival during which the old town comes alive through street manifestations.
Pezenas is a town in the Herault department of Languedoc-Roussillon region, north of Agde and 20 kilometres north-east of Beziers in the Val d'Hérault. It is one of my favourite towns in this area and well worth the trip to visit it. Pezenas has a nice attractive old town, unspoiled by modern development, with narrow streets to explore as well as some grand 17th century houses. Its town centre was one of the first in France to be protected as an historic monument.
Look out for the magnificent detail as you amble through the lanes. There are example of lovely stone detail to windows and doors, interesting wrought iron balconies and stone staircases. There are numerous imposing houses from the 16th to 18th centuries including the Hotel Jacques Coeur, the Hotel Carion de Nizas and the Hotel de Lacoste among those to look out for. There is also a well preserved Jewish ghetto in the town dating from the middle ages.
The most important religious monument in Pezenas is the 18th century Collegiale Church of Saint-Jean, above all for the important treasury that it contains. Others include the roman style Church of Saint-Jean-de-Bébian, classified as a historic monument, and the other main church - the Church of Saint-Ursule - also merits a visit.
The town is also reputed for its antique and bric-a-brac shops.
The Tourist Office in Pézenas offers guided tours of the town to help you make the most of a visit. The tourist office itself was once the barbers shop and it was here apparently that Moliere dreamed up some of the characters for his plays. If you are staying in or close to Pézenas during the evening you can wander through the old town and find a number of inviting restaurants to tempt you.
The town is especially proud of its association with Moliere, who brought his troupe to the town on several occasions, and has a monument to commemorate the fact by the reputed sculptor Jean-Antoine Anjelbert. Budding authors seeking inspiration can visit the Museum de Vulliod Saint-Germain where you can even see Moliere's armchair. There is also a Museum of Toys, an Arts and Crafts Centre and an interesting Centre for Architecture and Heritage in Pezenas. Each summer Pezenas plays host to the Mirondela de l'Arte, and music and street entertainment takes over the town. The market day is Saturday in Pezenas.

Confluence
Confluence est le nouveau secteur-sud du 2e arrondissement de Lyon, situé à l'extrémité sud de la presqu'île de Lyon, proche de la confluence du Rhône et de la Saône.
La diversité architecturale du site se traduit par la créativité des concepteurs sélectionnés, reconnus à l’échelle mondiale. Certaines constructions attirent l’attention, tel le Cube Orange, inventé par les architectes Dominique Jacob et Brendam Mac Farlane. Ou l’impressionnant siège de la Région, dessiné par Christian de Porzamparc. Non loin de là, l’ancien pavillon des Douanes fait cohabiter des galeries d’art et un restaurant franco-japonais, à l’architecture intérieure unique.
Musée des confluences
Ce musée est l’édifice le plus iconoclaste de la ville de Lyon. Représentant un cristal et un nuage (symboles du connu et de l’inconnu), ce musée a vocation à accueillir des collections relatives aux sciences de la Vie, de la Terre et de l’Homme, en tant que digne héritier du Muséum d’histoire naturelle. Il est à n’en pas douter l’un des fers de lance du futur culturel de l’agglomération lyonnaise.

La collection du musée des Confluences est issue du Muséum de Lyon, celui-ci ayant vu ses collections se constituer autour des sciences naturelles, mais également de l'ethnographie et d'une collection coloniale, issue d'un musée créé en 1927 et fermé en 19684. Une partie de la collection du musée, de plus de 2 millions d'objets, fut placée en 2002 dans le Centre de conservation et d’étude des collections
L'exposition permanente du Musée des Confluences repose sur quatre espaces expositions, appelés Origines, les récits du monde ; Sociétés, le théâtre des hommes ; Espèces, la maille du vivant et Éternités, visions de l'au-delà :
• Origines, les récits du monde : présente notamment les squelettes d'un mosasaure et d'un Camarasaurus, de trilobites mais aussi des météorites;
• Sociétés, le théâtre des hommes : expose pour diverses civilisations actuelles les processus civilisateurs. Ils sont fondés sur la matérialité (production), la dématérialisation (monnaies, instruments économiques de mesure d'échange d'objets et de mesure d'identité individuelle), l'échange social par le langage et la constitution de parenté dans les groupes (politesse et mariage) en dehors de l'acte de l'agression-destruction-appropriation et de la constitution de la langue.
• Espèces, la maille du vivant : montre l'histoire des groupes constitués d'animaux dont l'homme. Des animaux momifiés datant de l'Égypte antique, mais aussi des exemplaires de dodo et de loup de Tasmanie, ainsi que des insectes9 ;
• Éternités, visions de l'au-delà : consacré à la représentation de la mort dans l'histoire de civilisations, met en avant notamment une momie péruvienne.

L’architecture de la structure, vitrée sur plus de la moitié de sa surface. L’eau qui la borde ajoute une touche zen.
Grâce à des jeux de cloisons, la salle est structurée en plusieurs espaces intimistes. De ce fait, le lieu n’est pas trop bruyant et l’ambiance demeure plus feutrée.

Old City of Acre Part 1
Acre is a historic walled port-city with continuous settlement from the Phoenician period. The present city is characteristic of a fortified town dating from the Ottoman 18th and 19th centuries, with typical urban components such as the citadel, mosques, khans and baths. The remains of the Crusader town, dating from 1104 to 1291, lie almost intact, both above and below today's street level, providing an exceptional picture of the layout and structures of the capital of the medieval Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem.
Pompeii: Dramatic new discovery made by archeologists
The skeleton of a Roman man who was decapitated by a giant slab of rock has been discovered by archeologists in Pompeii.
They believe the man, aged in his thirties, was attempting to flee the eruption of Mt Vesuvius when the 300kg rock slammed into him, beheading him and killing him instantly.
He had struggled to escape the doomed city because he had an infection in his leg.
Archeologists found the rock sticking out of the ground at an angle, with the remains of the man protruding and intact from the chest down.
The rock, which they think may have been part of a stone doorway, was hurled into the air by the force of the eruption, which devastated Pompeii in AD79.
The skeleton was uncovered in an area of new excavations, close to a newly-discovered alleyway of houses with balconies.
Massimo Osanna, the director general of the archaeological site, called the discovery dramatic and exceptional.
“A formidable stone block (perhaps a door jamb), violently thrown by the volcanic cloud, collided with his upper body, crushing the highest part of the thorax and yet-to-be-identified head, which probably lies under the stone block,” archeologists said in a statement.
The experts found lesions on his tibia which indicate a serious bone infection.
That “could have caused significant walking difficulties, enough to impede the man's escape at the first dramatic signs which preceded the eruption,” they said.

Avignon, France - pedestrian zone
Continuing our visit to Provence, France. We're going to take you on an extended walk through the pedestrian zone and narrow streets on the east side of downtown Avignon, in the south of France, an area filled with shops, people and historic buildings. The only way to see this part of town is by walking. Old town is a charming neighborhood of shopping lanes and narrow residential streets with little back alleys, perfect for strolling.
Some of these routes are exclusively for pedestrians, no cars allowed, especially in the shopping center just southeast of the Place de l’Horloge. It's like one big shopping mall. And this historic center can easily be seen on foot in one day, for it is a compact zone about 1/2 mile wide and about 1/2 mile long.
