Euramax levert bijzondere gevel voor de Maastoren in Rotterdam
De kleur van de Maastoren verandert geleidelijk naarmate de wolkenkrabber hoger reikt: onderin is het gebouw donkergrijs en bovenin zilverwit. Om deze kleurenverschillen te creëren zijn de onderste panelen van natuursteen en de bovenste van 22 verschillende tinten aluminium. Het aluminium wordt steeds lichter. De bedoeling van de veranderende kleuren is om mee te kleuren met de horizon. Het donkergrijs onderin verwijst daarbij naar de kade van basalt.

Rotterdam gaat de lucht in. We werden in 2009 en 2010 overweldigd door de komst van de Maastoren en de New Orleans, beide meer dan 160 meter hoog. In de komende jaren stijgen een hoop Rotterdamse gebouwen naar gelijke hoogte of worden zelfs nog hoger.

About the Erasmus bridge:
The Erasmusbrug (Erasmus Bridge) is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas (English: New Meuse) river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
The Erasmusbrug was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 802 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of The Swan.
The southern span of the bridge has a 89 metre long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world.
The bridge was officially opened by Queen Beatrix on September 6, 1996, having cost 165 million Dutch guilders (about 75 million euro) to construct. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic in October 1996, it was discovered the bridge would swing under particularly strong wind conditions. To reduce the trembling, stronger shock dampers were installed.
The bridge featured in the 1998 Jackie Chan film Who Am I?. In 2005 several planes flew underneath the bridge as part of the Red Bull Air Race.
In 2005, the bridge served as the backdrop for a performance by DJ Tiësto titled Tiësto @ The Bridge, Rotterdam. The performance featured fire fighting ships spraying jets of water into the air in front of the bridge, a fireworks barge launching fireworks beside the bridge, and multi coloured spot/search lights attached to the bridge itself.
The bridge was crossed during the prologue and the opening stage of the 2010 Tour de France.

Deze film is opgedragen aan Ton de Vos, een Rotterdammer in hart en nieren en tevens groot havenliefhebber die helaas in 2017 is overleden.

De Wilhelminakade is een circa 500 meter lange straat op de Wilhelminapier op de Kop van Zuid. De Wilhelminakade begint bij het Wilhelminaplein en eindigt bij het World Port Center. De Wilhelminakade kreeg zijn naam rond 1900 en is vernoemd naar koningin Wilhelmina. Het was de vestigingsplaats van de Holland-Amerika Lijn in de periode 1901-1971. Met name in de periode tot de Eerste Wereldoorlog vertrokken grote aantallen Oost-Europese volksverhuizers via de Wilhelminakade naar New York. De Nieuw Amsterdam vertrok in 1971 als laatste schip van de lijndienst op New York. Sindsdien leggen er incidenteel cruiseschepen aan. Op de kade staat het voormalig hoofdgebouw van de Holland-Amerika Lijn. In de jaren 90 van de twintigste eeuw werd het omgebouwd tot Hotel New York. Het interieur werd echter volledig authentiek gehouden. Norman Foster ontwierp op uitnodiging van de gemeente Rotterdam in 1992 een masterplan voor de herontwikkeling van de Wilhelminapier tot grootstedelijke boulevard. Ook de eerste hoogbouw op de Wilhelminakade, het 124 meter hoge World Port Center uit 2000, werd door hem ontworpen. De westelijke punt van de pier wordt het Koninginnehoofd genoemd. Hier staat sinds 2001 het grote gietijzeren beeld Lost luggage depot van de Canadese historicus en beeldend kunstenaar Jeff Wall als symbool van het afscheid dat emigranten hier namen van hun vorige leven. De Wilhelminakade gaat hier met een ruime U-bocht over in de Otto Reuchlinweg, vernoemd naar de reder en wijnkoper Otto Reuchlin, een van de oprichters van de HAL (Holland Amerika Line) in 1873.
The Wilhelminakade is an approximately 500 meter (600 yards) long street on the Wilhelminapier on the Kop van South. The Wilhelminakade starts at Wilhelminaplein and ends at the World Port Center. It takes quite some time before a ship passes this open bridge in Rotterdam. No wonder the people rush across it, on foot and by bicycle, when they finally can again.

Op de terugweg van Bergerac vliegen we bij helder weer over het centrum van Rotterdam en recht over vliegveld Zestienhoven, waarna we een bocht maken over Berkel en Roderijs waarbij we over het huis van Anne Marie en Henri vliegen. Super mooi !
On our way back from Bergerac we flew over Rotterdam. Beautiful to see the 'Nieuwe waterweg (Maas)', the fascenating modern buildings, the two beautiful bridges and the Feyenoord stadium.
We flew right over the airport, making a turn over Berkel seeing my sisters house from the air. Fascenating !
