Foreigner Visits Lodhi Art District | New Delhi India
We found this gem of a place in the heart of south Delhi. Lodi Road (Graffiti Street as I call it) has been completely transformed into an open art gallery where NGO's showcase their talent as well as raising awareness for the causes they feel passionate towards. This is a must-visit site for not just foreigners but locals who I am sure like me are unaware of something so magical being present around them. Hope you like it :)!
Here is the exact address of the street:

Up until the middle of last year, we had exhibitions, and you know, work which would sell out and people were, sort of you know, always clamouring. Especially in New York, the recession hit pretty hard and pretty deeply and we definitely felt that peoples' priorities changed a little bit, you know, so everybody was sort of so shocked by the whole situation and they put purchasing on hold.

I think for foreign galleries, there is obviously a lot of opportunity to start building up new collector base or new clientele, you know, with the Western world- both US and Europe- dramatically slowing down and as I mentioned, both China and India offers new opportunities. I think there is, I think this shift will probably start moving. The Asian economies will be more attractive for Western Galleries going forward and we see that both in terms of Asian Art Fairs in China and... and here in India. So, I think that's a trend that will continue.

25. SOUNDBITE (English): Neha Kirpal, Associate Director, India Art Summit-
Galleries here recognise the potential of the domestic market and they recognise that somebody has to come together and then cultivate those buyers within the market and this move... the investment that everybody has made is completely rationalising that. I think everybody here looks at this as a move to build a healthier art ecosystem, less volatile... there has been a huge price correction but overall, the market seems to be picking up again. There is trade that has happened in the last two days and phenomenal trade.

LEADIN
The global financial crisis may have hit the art markets of New York and London but according to experts in New Delhi the Indian market is going strong.
They've been attending the second edition of the India Art Summit.
STORYLINE
Even before the art summit opened formally, quite a few participating galleries had sold their artworks.
The first gallery to sell their artwork was the Aicon Gallery, which has branches in New York and London.
Priyanka Mathew, Director of Aicon Gallery, admits it has been a tough year with the global slowdown taking a toll on spending by art lovers.

The Impressions of India photography show at Jill Lawson Yoga in Dolores, Colorado shows images of my recent trip to India earlier in 2012. The interesting expressions of the people on the street and in the fields, the sweet faces of young girls waiting for a festival or playing near the store grace the walls of the gallery.
Highly decorated elephants from the Jaipur Elephant Festival create a palette of colors for the eye. Bicycles, auto rickshaws and elaborately decorated carrier goods trucks show the love the Indian people have for beauty and color.
Traveling for 7 weeks around this diverse country was a continued stimulation of the senses. The colors of the saris of the woman in the streets or the fields, the smells of the spices in the shops or cooking in the streets, the sounds of horns honking and children playing, the touch of a young girl wanting to hold my hand and the taste of masala tea warming my throat to just name a few of the wonderful awakening of all the senses.
Enjoy taking a small visual trip with my images through Incredible India.
