After talking with a very helpful tour guide at Boss Frogs on the Island of Maui, we got tickets to take the Calypso catamaran out to Molokini to explore some of the best snorkeling that Hawaii has to offer!

Recent scuba diving video from Hawaii. Two Maui shore dives (Olowalu and Makena Landing). Boat dives locations - Lanai (1st Cathedral, 2nd Cathedral, Fish Rock), Molokini crater. I used GoPro 3 Black Edition with and without red filter plus Sola 500 video light. All in HD.
I had 6 (time limited) boat dives (not so cool for the price) and 2 shore dives (very cool) I was diving with two different companies. Boat dives with Lahaina Divers. Amazingly most of my video made on shore dives thanks to Mike from Maui Diving Scuba Center. Best on the island if you looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable dive instructor. Super cool time underwater.

Celebrating my beautiful girlfriends 24th birthday. Shout out to the crew of The Pride of Maui for creating a great atmosphere. We definitely recommend their boat for snorkeling trips and tours.
MAUI HAWAII VACATION: MOLOKINI MAUI SNORKEL ADVENTURE
On the last day of our Maui trip, we went on a snorkel adventure to the Molokini crater, just off the shores of the big Maui island.
Originally, the trip had been canceled, due to early afternoon flights, but we managed to shoehorn it in with some help from Blue Sky Tours ( and the Maui Visitors Bureau (
One of the bigger summer swells that Maui's seen in a while had just happened a couple days before the snorkeling day, so the water was still a bit choppy and rough. However, inside the crater's protective walls, the water was a cool, refreshing paradise! The one change to the normal Play Paradise ( snorkel tour was the visit to Turtle Town. Typically, a calm haven for honu (sea turtles), it was just a rough mess on this day, so we didn't get to see any honu.
Our tour left from Makena Beach, just outside the Mekena Beach and Golf Resort ( As you'll see in the video, at times, boarding the catamaran could be challenging with the rough seas, but the crew of the boat got us all aboard safely, even if they had to sacrifice their own bodies!
From there, it was just a quick trip out to the Molokini crater. We had plenty of snorkel time and then took a quick tour of South Maui, including Big and Little Beach and a check of Turtle Town before heading back to Mekena Beach. On calm days, they will put out the sails for the return trip, but obviously, it was just too rough on our day.

AXIS DEER HUNTING IN MAUI - PREY ON ADVENTURE
On this adventure we are completing our Maui Hunting moon series after the Axis deer. This hunt will also complete my Maui grand slam which includes Spanish goat, feral hogs, and Axis deer. We were very fortunate to get invited on to one of the original and founding ranches on the island by one of the Landowners Barry and we were also guided by Shawn, a good friend of Barry’s.
The Chital, also known as Spotted Deer, Chital Deer, and Axis Deer or scientific name AXIS AXIS is a species of deer that is native in the Indian subcontinent. The axis deer was introduced to Molokai, Hawaii in the 1860s, Maui some years after that. Similar to the elk, these spotted deer are also extremely vocal, letting out distinctive sharp, calls to communicate. Males are even known to bugle during the mating season. These deer were very vocal while we were there in mid march and the bugles just added to the excitement. It didn't take us long and we could here calls in the distance and began seeing does crossing the trails in front of us.
The sound of the alarm is a sharp screech which means game over, busted!
I started off bow hunting for one of these deer and if you have never hunted axis deer you will learn real quick that they are very skittish. The shear number of deer on the ranch was a blessing and a curse. A curse in the way that there were so many eyes and noses around. We would be sneaking in on one group of deer and then another group we didn't see next to us would blow and run, scarring every thing in sight. But didn't seem to be a big of a problem because we could just move to the next draw or gulch and find another group of deer to stalk.
The evening was closing in and I started to run out of time. So after the 5th blown stalk I decided to switch to the rifle to get the job done.
After passing on a few smaller bucks, we found a large heard that was lead by a mature Axis buck. After bumping them a couple of times the chase was on! We literally were at a dead sprint trying to catch up to the herd. When we finally caught up to they crested a hill and I lined up for a shot. Boom! the rifle sounded off and the deer dropped!
The buck measured 32 inches which is a trophy in anyone's book but the meat is absolutely delicious! It is mild and melts in your mouth, definitely one of the best game animals I have had!

Snorkeling Molokini Crater and Turtle Town???????? Maui, Hawaii
Maui Magic Snorkel Trip to Molokini Crater and Turtle town. This was a 5 hour snorkel morning tour that included breakfast and lunch. Unlimited alcoholic drinks and non alcoholic drinks were also included with the price. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to visit or any local looking for a fun snorkel activity. Staff was very friendly, food was decent, and drinks were awesome. As you can see we had no shortage of visuals!
Molokini Crater ~
Molokini is a crescent-shaped, partially submerged volcanic crater which forms a small, uninhabited islet located in ʻAlalākeiki Channel between the islands of Maui and Kahoʻolawe, within Maui County in Hawaiʻi. It is the remains of one of the seven Pleistocene epoch volcanoes that formed the prehistoric Maui Nui island, during the Quaternary Period of the Cenozoic Era.
The islet has an area of 23 acres (9.3 ha),[2] a diameter of about 0.4 miles (0.6 km), is 161 feet (50 m) at its highest point,[3] and is located about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west of Makena State Park and south of Maʻalaea Bay. The islet is a Hawaiʻi State Seabird Sanctuary.
Turtle Town ~
Green sea turtles hang out all around Turtle Town, which is located in a beautiful patch of ocean near Makena. The healthy and expansive coral reef there is a perfect place for the turtles to graze. They can also find all kinds of places to rest on the bottom. Be sure to consider the shape of a turtle as you float above the reef. Sometimes you will see just one back flipper sticking out from under the coral, and it can look like a large leaf.

Molokini Crater back wall dives, Maui
Molokini crater is a semi-circular wall off Makena in Maui. Inside the crater is a shallow reef - the back wall is a long drop exposed to the Pacific where more pelagic species are found.
We did two dives off the back wall with Maui Dreams Dive Company. We'd previously had two fabulous diving days with them, but unfortunately our guides on this day weren't very good. The boat was split fairly evenly between newer air divers and more experienced divers on Nitrox, but instead of putting the advanced divers together, they split us up. This meant those of us diving Nitrox were forced to dive an air profile to stay with the group, and we didn't get to spend much time at depth with the pelagics which are the whole point of diving the wall. What we saw was pretty, but not what I had hoped for when I booked the dives. After the amazing experience I had diving the walls at Lehua off Kaua'i, this was a bit disappointing.

Humpback WHALES at Molokini Crater
Off the rim of Reef's end at Molokini Crater in Maui, in the state of Hawaii, I ran into two Humpback Whales while doing a cinematography dive. I was on my first solo trip to Maui and had booked this dive on a whim, and the dive turned out to be phenomenal! I was excited and this was my first encounter with whales. Here is a clip from the footage I shot of these whales during the dive. They made my diving experience at Molokini Crater absolutely phenomenal! It was a once in a lifetime moment and I am here to share it. I am a pretty experienced diver and I would recommend booking a dive at Molokini Crater if you can, the visibility there is amazing!
