World's Greatest Trekking Adventure-Everest Base Camp Nepal
Preview and Download Part 1 of Far East Adventure Travel's World's Greatest Trekking Adventure-Everest Base Camp Nepal.
It’s one of the most coveted treks in the world. Everest Base Camp, Nepal. Far East Adventure Travel is proud to present two podcasts completely devoted to the magic of trekking this region. From crossing the sometimes trecherous Chola Pass to the final steps arriving at Everest Base Camp. And an early morning ascent of Kala Patthar for one of the best views of Everest in all of Nepal. Join me John Saboe for one of Asia’s great adventures. Trekking to Everest Base Camp.
Everest Base Camp, Nepal. Right from the start I was in for a hair raising experience. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, rated as one of the most dangerous airports in the world is often canceled in October, the busy season due to weather conditions. If it’s not cloudy or windy in Lukla, it is in Kathmandu, making it extremely tricky to complete scheduled flights. You can be stranded in Lukla for days waiting for a weather window. Same this goes in Kathmandu. Days!
You can avoid the whole worry of flight delays and dangerous weather conditions by trekking all the way to Lukla. Take a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri, about 9 hours. Then just walk for a week! For me, I was extremely lucky to be on one of the first flights that day from Kathmandu to the start of the trek with favorable weather conditions.
Previously I had trekked in a couple of regions in Nepal and had been to Everest Base Camp in Tibet. Up until now I had avoided the EBC trek for more remote and quieter trails in Nepal’s Himalaya. But this was the same ground that many mountaineers had trampled including the first two to summit the world’s highest mountain, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. My curiousity with the trails, the lore of the region and the super friendly Sherpa people that make up the largest ethnic group in the Khumbu Valley could no longer be suppressed because of some crowded trails and teahouses with wine bars.

S1E4 - ALTITUDETRAINING.TV: PREPARATIONS FOR CLIMBING IN KATHMANDU 3/3
In episode 4, we meet Shiva, the Hostel Mogul originally from Pokhara (founder of Fireflies & Wanderthirst Hostels ) randomly on the street. Later we buy honey & peanut butter from a cheap supply store on Chhetrapati. Then we finally finalize the deal to climb the mountain with local guides and permit. What kind of food they provide on the trip, monkey food or dog food? The answer is dog food.
This is a message to all the mountain bandits, those who climb mountains without permits.
If you climb a mountain illegally, you will go to prison or to jail!
We also meet Krishna from Krishna’s shop. You can find him at here and have a cup of tea with him:

The Great Himalaya Winter Trail ↠ Prolog

One of the most famous religious and pious place is Janakpurdham which is located in middle of Asia continent; eastern part of Nepal and out of 14 zones in Nepal one is Janakpur and it consist Dhanusha District where it is located. Pilgrims, who take flight from Kathmandu to Janakpur, would reach Janakpur airport in about 35 minutes flight. There are other means of transportation to reach Janakpur beside flight, pilgrims can reach Janakpur easily by road from any place of Nepal, and they can take tourist or local night buses as well. Janakpur is almost 375 KM far from Kathmandu and there are plenty of good hotel and lodge for room and board.
As per present political division, Janakpur is a part of Dhanusha district; ancient Janakpur city was capital of grater Mithila Kingdom. Then capital Janakpur, now one important pilgrimage site is significant from historical, religious, and cultural aspect. The legend and religious significant of Janakpur is the result of beloved King Janak's who turned this state into a welfare state. King Janak's daughter Janaki or Sita's ideal character, dutifulness, chastity, struggling, faith, and belongingness has highlighted this pious land. Also, Kind Janak was Righteousness, dutifulness, and his celestial knowledge and self knowledge. He was not only king, but also a great sage, so he is called sage--king as well. Hence this historic and culturally rich city has named after him.
This is Janaki temple. From architectural aspect, this temple is made on Mugal style and it also has got some fusion of Hindu architecture style as well. This grand artistic temple has been center of attraction for local, regional Hindu Pilgrims as well as foreign tourist all over the year. Inside this enormous temple there are countless artistic rooms, worship rooms, Mandap, store rooms. This temple is stretch almost 4860 sq. feet on the plain land. It is 50 feet high as well.
According to Holy Scripture and religious text, there was a Shiva Dhanus (Bow) in King Janak Palace. It was so heavy that nobody can hold it or move it anywhere. One day, seven years old Sita, easily moved this bow to new place from its previous place. King Janak was so much surprised that his small daughter Sita performed impossible act. Then he realized that Sita was not an ordinary girl, hence he announced that whoever could hold this bow would marry his daughter. As per his command, many princes came to Janakpur to marry Sita by fulfilling the demand, they tried but all failed. So, Kind Janak worried by such incidents.
