MEKONG DELTA VIETNAM - Saigon Day Trip
We experienced local life along the Mekong Delta Vietnam for our last day in Saigon. We show you the best Saigon day trip that Vietnam has to offer, traveling by boat down the Mekong Delta and exploring a local Vietnam village along the way.
Our trip to the Mekong Delta Vietnam started with a 2 hour luxury van ride to a town called My Tho. Although we don’t normally take public tours, we arranged a small 6 person group tour with Vietnam Adventure Tours. Once we arrived in My Tho, we boarded a private boat to set sail down the Mekong Delta River. The 15 minute boat ride took us across the Mekong river to unicorn island where we explored a tourist area set up to mimic a traditional Vietnam Village. The activities on this island include: Bee Farm and Honey Tasting, Snake Holding, Coconut Candy Production, Chocolate Production, Snake Wine, and a Fruit Farm with traditional Mekong Delta music.
Next we got back on the Vietnam boat tour down the Mekong Delta to visit the area of Ben Tre. This is where we got to see a side of a more authentic Vietnam by boating down the river in a small sampan boat. This is one of the best things to do in Vietnam because you get to experience a world away from all development. We wish this part of the Mekong river tour was longer, as the small sampan boat ride was only 15 minutes long.
Next up on the Mekong Delta Tour was lunch which was included in our tour and very delicious. We were served a variety of Vietnamese food including fish, spring rolls, soup, rice, morning glory and prawns. The Vietnamese lunch was absolutely delicious!
When visiting Saigon Vietnam, we highly recommend you put a Mekong Delta Tour on your list of must do activities. Out of all the things to do in Saigon, this was one of our favorites! A quick 2 hour Saigon day trip away seems like a completely separate world apart from the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
If you’re interested in booking one of the best tours in Saigon, contact Vietnam Adventure Tours and request Van as your tour guide! The tour you see is the VIP Mekong Delta Tour with a luxury 7 person limo. Most Mekong tours start from $15 USD and go up to $80 USD for a public tour, and private tours are $80 USD per person and up. We hope you enjoyed our trip down the Vietnam Mekong Delta and if you have any questions please leave us a comment! We’d love to hear about your Vietnam travel or plans to visit the area.

Tour around Vietnam, The mekong River Ho Chi Minh
Hi everyone again, I am back with a video about Vietnam, more specifically the Mekong River Tour that we did on December 2018 from the Ho Chi Minh City. I hope you enjoy.
Don't forget to Subscribe :)
Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.
The Mekong is a trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia. It is the world's twelfth longest river and the seventh longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,350 km, and it drains an area of 795,000 km², discharging 475 km³ of water annually

The Mekong Delta
From the heights of the Tibetan Plateau, the mighty Mekong flows through six countries, giving life and a home to millions of people. For this, it was once named “Mother of all rivers”. The Mekong is one of the most speciose rivers of the world, with approximately 1,300 varieties of fish and numerous kinds of reptiles and birds.
After a journey of 4,500 kilometres (3,000 miles) it reaches the South China Sea. Nine estuaries carry enormous amounts of silt to form one of the greatest (50,000 km2) ever growing deltas in the world. Cuu Long (nine dragons) is the Vietnamese name for the nine main estuaries. More than 13 million people live by the timeless rhythm of the river in small fishing villages and boats. There are also many Khmer and Cham who live in the Mekong delta region.
The cultivation of the Mekong delta
The beginning of cultivation of the Mekong delta can be dated back to 1750 when Vietnamese monarchs started to built canals and drain swamps to gain more land for cultivation. But the main part of the development was done by the French at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuaries.
Thousands of waterways form a labyrinth of major currents and secluded canals lined with lush vegetation, mangrove swamps and verdant rice fields. Due to the fertile soil and the production of 16 million tonnes of rice per year (harvested in three crops) the Mekong delta is also called “rice bowl” of Vietnam.
The Mekong delta is an exotic paradise for travellers from all over the world: good climate, an abundance of tropical fruit, sugar cane, coconuts and colourful flowers, a relaxed atmosphere and the generous mentality of the people. Lots of the activities in the area take place on the vast waterways. Most houses have access to the river, not all of them to roads.

Phu My Ho Chi Minh City Cruise Terminal Port Tour & Info (4K)
Take a look at the cruise port of Phu My, the gateway into Ho Chi Minh City, aka Saigon, Vietnam. We were there in March 2018 as part of our 14 Day Asia cruise aboard the Princess Cruises Majestic Princess (aka 盛世公主号) cruise ship. Also take a look at the process of docking by cruise ship at the port.
The Phy My port terminal area is an industrial port as you can see in the video. We are American citizens, and a Vietnam Visa was required at a cost of $58 USD per person. We did not have to apply for the visa ourselves- the cruise line automatically does this and charges the cost to each guest's onboard account.
Getting off the ship required the ship key card and a Landing Card that was also prepared by the cruise line. Once ashore, the buses for the ship ordered excursions into Saigon are parked the closest. If you are on a third party tour like we were, you have to walk a little further to board the bus.
At the port a local Vietnamese merchants setup makeshift shops in case you wanted to purchase souvenir and goods. The drive from Phu My to Saigon was about 1.5 hours.
Please feel free to comment or ask questions if you have any, and we'd be happy to answer!

My Mekong Delta Cruise – Saigon (Vietman) to Siem Reap (Cambodia)
Highlights from my Mekong Delta Cruise (October 2016) from Saigon in Vietnam to Siem reap in Cambodia. Video courtesy of
The tour started with sightseeing Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), welcoming dinner etc. I added an extra couple of days in Saigon to explore other “non-touristy” areas.
From Saigon we went to My Tho where we boarded the CruiseCo Adventurer and set sail for Cai Be. The ship was extremely comfortable with private deck etc. The food was excellent and nightly performances were organised. There was only about 30 guest on the tour and they broke us into groups of two for day excursions… which was a good idea.
Next morning we visited Cai Be to see the floating markets and other local attractions. Lunch was on board the Cruiseco Adventurer followed by a visit to the village of Sa Dec.
The next day was to Tan Chau and the Border Crossing into Cambodia. We toured the town on a rickshaw and watched navigated narrow channels by boat.
The ship docked in the Capital City Phnom Penh overnight. In the afternoon we visited the Khmer Rouge’s Toul Sleng Detention Centre and the Killing Fields.
There are around 20,000 mass grave sites where at least 1,386,734 people were executed under the Khmer Rouge Regime between 1975 and 1979.
It is estimated up to 2.5 million people died from Khmer Rouge policies, including starvation and disease. That was out of a population of roughly 8 million in 1975.
Vietnam invaded Cambodia (then called Democratic Kampuchea) in 1979 and toppled the Khmer Rouge regime. A very sad history.
The next morning we explored Phnom Penh on our own by Tuk Tuk. After lunch on board the ship sailed for Chong Koh, where we visit some traditional handicraft workshops.
The next day it was on to Oudong to visit a Buddhist monastery. Then on to Kapong Tralach Pleu where we took an ox cart ride to the Tonle River. Not overly comfortable but a lot of fun!
We were lucky to be cruising in early October during the high water season so didn’t need to take the long bus trip on our journey to Siem Reap. We visited the rural port town of Kampong Chhnang and explored the busy (but dirty and interesting) markets.
The vessel dropped anchor and tied up to a tree mid-stream, so we could take a boat trip into the lake-side wetlands. The ship moored near Siem Reap.
In Siem Reap we toured Angkor Wat which is the world’s largest temple. It was stinking hot and humid but a wonderful experience.
I didn’t bother with the arranged tour of more temples the next day, but instead got a Tuk Tuk and explored Siem Reap including and visit to the War Museum which I found enlightening. I stayed in Siem Reap a couple more days to explore more of the city and surrounds.
Overall, the trip was amazing! Thanks CruiseCo.

Mekong Delta - Mekong River Cruise & Mekong River Day Tour
Mekong Delta - Mekong River Cruise & Mekong River Day Tour - Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam is where our tour starts. My name is DCBORNROB and our channel is Erasing Borders. Today's trip was to the Mekong Delta. By way of a couple of stops along the way. But our day started at our Tour Agency of choice which was Le Hoang Daily Tours. Conveniently located right across the street from Ben Than Market. They handled everything from our Mekong Delta tour to flights to and from Hanoi and Danang as well as our trip to Ha Long Bay. Mekong Delta Vietnam is a must do when in Ho Chi Minh City or as some say Saigon Vietnam. Highly recommended. This is our Travel Vlog of our travels in Vietnam. If you're looking for things to do in Ho Chi Minh, this is a great opportunity. Be advised, it will take most of the day. Get there first and pick your seat. It's a good little ride. This Mekong River Delta Tour was worth the ticket. If you have to do one experience during your visit to Saigon, this
Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon Vietnam as some still call it, is our first stop on this dream Vietnam Travel trip. By the way, we also heard some call Saigon Vietnam City. We were going to take Vietnam Airlines but because my girlfriend and I met there, I ended up taking Eva Airlines. Which I highly recommend. Roomy and friendly. Our first stay was in a Vietnam hotel which was actually an AirBnB.
Our first stop when we finally met up was for Vietnamese food, or should I say Vietnamese street food. And then we began to find a tour place to book our Vietnam tour. We wanted to see Halong Bay of course and to take a Halong Bay cruise. And also take a boat ride on the Mekong river. Vietnam tourism is big. I mean really big. Lots of tourist.
Our hotel and 2nd AirBnB was also near Ben Than Market which is where you can get every deal shopping possible. At the end of day 1 you'll see, we were dropped off at Bui Vien street for one or two last drinks for the night.
We also wanted to make sure we went to Hanoi Vietnam and to visit the Hanoi Hilton which was very intense. I'd definitely make this visit. Oh, one other thing to note; the Vietnam Economy is one which is friendly to the US dollar. Keep that in mind.
As a child I grew up with the Vietnam war up until 1975 when the war ended. I've watched all of the Vietnam war movies. Platoon, Full Metal Jacket to name two. Which had special meaning since I'm a former Marine. All of the Vietnam war songs still stay in my head.
After Hanoi and Halong Bay was Da Nang Vietnam and of course Da Nang Beach. Our hotel was right across the street from the beach. While in Da Nang, we took a Grab to Hoi An Vietnam which was about a 30 minute drive. And I think this was my 5th Vietnamese massage. But after this we ended up back in Saigon.
I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to go to Asia. Please comment on what you think of our adventure.

Mekong Delta Tour with Mango Cruises, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Getting out on to the Mekong Delta and exploring the surrounding areas is one of the best things you can do while visiting Ho Chi Minh (Saigon).
This video highlights our experience in this beautiful are with Mango Tours who we can highly recommend. As you will see the private tour took us not only on the river itself but also to visit several local areas where they made anything from bricks to rice paper.
We hope you enjoy our video, which was shot using a DJI OSMO
Mekong Delta Tour Film ???????? (Ho Chi Minh City)
One of the most popular tour in Ho chi minh city(Saigon) is the Mekong Delta tour. Starting from less than 20 USD or 400K VND, you can spend the day experiencing the local vietnamese life alongside the Mekong river.
But like the other tours in Vietnam, the tour guide will try to sell products all the time. I would say don't expect too much since the tour comes at such an affordable price :)
