Panic after python sneaks out of Meru national museum
There was panic in Meru town after aN 18 foot African Rock python sneaked out of the Meru National Museum on Tuesday night after little showers were experienced. The giant python which was discovered hiding in a nearby kiosk was captured by snake handlers this morning and returned to the sanctuary.

Panic in Meru town after an 18 feet python sneaked out of its sanctuary
There was a panic in Meru town after an 18 feet python snake sneaked out of its sanctuary on Tuesday night following a little rainfall.
Kenya National Museum officials said they discovered this morning the African rock python snake had disappeared unnoticed on Tuesday night.
Meru National Museum curator, Cornelius Njeru, said the snake was found under a kiosk a few meters away from the museum after they trail its steps and was taken back to the sanctuary.

Tourist attraction sites in Meru County
Visitors to Meru are spoilt for choice as to which of the many attractions they should see. Key among them is an area where the Equator passes through. However, residents feel that the National Museums of Kenya should recognize the area as a world heritage site and preserve as a natural monument so that it is of international repute.
Florists in Meru also want the county government to promote environment conservation. Mr Geoffrey Kiunga from Gatimbi in Central Imenti said they are afraid that the county enforcement officers might raid their business and arrest them. He instead wants the county to boost conservation efforts to achieve the required forest cover.
Legendary snake ‘Omieri’ on display at National Museums
You might remember Omieri, the giant sacred python that caused quite a sensation when it was spotted in Nyakach some 30 years ago.
Well, the national museums of Kenya has now placed the remains of the 15-foot-long serpent on display here in Nairobi.

The word 'Kaya' means home or village. So for a place or any forest that is referred to as a kaya forest, people must have lived there.

The woman's role is preparing food, fetching firewood and water and taking care of the family. Right now, we are pounding sorghum seeds used to make flour so we can prepare a meal that will be offered to the spirits to ask for the well being of the community.

This tree is known as Grevia Eggelinga, local name we call it mkota wongo and in those days people used this tree for treating sinus. They would pick the leaves, boil them then one was covered with a piece of cloth and then inhales the steam but if someone was in a hurry, that person would pick the leaves and then crush them like this and them you inhale, just like an inhaler. They have some menthol.

The main problems which we face in the Kayas are that people are felling trees for carving sculptures and burning charcoal, firewood and also others are fetching trees for building materials.

The Mijikenda kaya forests were recently added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage List.
The kaya forests show evidence of human habitation dating from the 16th century up to the early 1940s when the settlements were abandoned.
STORYLINE:
In the midst of the forest lie Mijikenda elders perform rituals close to the four century old graves of their dead.
A black goat is slaughtered and offered as a sacrifice to the spirits of the Kaya in a cleansing ritual to keep evil spirits away and provide protection to the community in the area.
Hemedi Mwafujo is the project manager for the Mijikenda Digo tribe. He explains that 'Kaya' means settlement and anything called 'Kaya' means that people once lived there.

A Committee of the forest restoration task force tours Mt Kenya
A principal secretary and a number of elected and other national government officials have been singled out as some of those who have benefited from irregular allocation of land in the Mt. Kenya forest.

In a lake there we see some hippos bathing in the water (only eyes and ears seen!) while the tourists take photos and film with cine cameras. Another Land Rover is seen driving over a plain; tourists look through the open top to see a lion standing over it's kill (L/S). M/Ss of a lioness; a hyena.
M/S of the clock tower at Arusha; commentator says the tower is precisely halfway between Cairo and the Cape of Good Hope. Other buildings in the town look quite modern. M/Ss of the market place; Africans carrying baskets on their heads; people examining fabrics; traders sitting on the ground with mats displaying their produce before them.
M/S of a swimming pool (probably on the slopes of Mount Meru) as a girl dives in; some middle-aged westerners sit at a table with a beer and watch. M/S of a young couple in dressing gowns eating breakfast on their hotel balcony; the man looks through binoculars at the view; L/S of the countryside on the lower slopes of the mountains; lots of trees, then thinning out towards the coast (I think - it's a bit misty).
M/Ss of a group of tourists setting out on a walk in shorts and walking boots; they walk past some exotic blossoms on a tree and off over a plain; some carry backpacks. M/S of two men stopping to take in the view; they look rather 'Englishman abroad' in their pullovers and woolly hats; one wears a cravat. L/S of Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically into the clouds. Various shots of the snow covered mountains from the air, including brief M/S from behind the driver of our plane. Amazing shot of Kilimajaro's ice-crater in the sunshine.

MAUMAU
When I was growing up in England (the 1950s) we were told about the Mau Mau who were destroying Kenya. Actually, white man's Kenya. I saw this video in Nairobi Museum (a fabulous museum) earlier this year and it tells there story form the perspective of the Kenyan people. The amount of military force used by the British, not to mention the huge internment camps, never made it to the British media, and that's for sure!
Dr.Hassan Wario plans to refurbish National Museums of Kenya countrywide
Sports, Culture and Arts CS, Dr. Hassan Wario, says he has written to Treasury CS, Henry Rotich, to be given a grant of Sh800 million to refurbish National Museums of Kenya across the country, some of which are in a dilapidated state.
He was speaking during the opening of the 4th Annual National Curators Meeting at Alba Hotel in Meru County.

Elders from Central Kenya camp at the foot of Mt. Kenya praying for Kenya
Elders from Gikuyu, Embu and Meru communities have been camping at the foot of Mount Kenya praying for peace to prevail in the country before and after election. The elders then slaughtered two white goats to complete the ceremony.
