“The Special Northern Five Species”- Amazing Wildlife Safari in Meru National Park, Kenya 2018 (4K)
The Beisa oryx, gerenuk, Grévy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich are the special northern five species of Kenya which we all encountered in Meru. Lesser kudu, white and black rhinoceros as well as many birds are present in the park.
Welcome to our wildlife safari in Kenya to the Meru National Park in December 2018. We stayed three nights in Elsa’s Kopje operated by Elewana Collection.

National parks are a safe haven for wild animals which when combined with natural features provide phenomenal game rides for tourists. However some parks have been on the verge of extinction due to poaching. such was the fate of Meru national park, which is now regaining its place on the wildlife table.

This Safari was filmed in early October in Meru National Park in Kenya. It was at the end of the hot dry season. The weather was hot at around 32-35 degrees centigrade but cool enough at night to make sleeping fairly comfortable.
Much of the bush is leafless and brown. The savanna is very dry and yellow. There ais plenty of green around the many rivers flowing through the park.
On Safari in Meru National Park, Kenya
Meru National Park was almost deserted when we stayed there in 2008 as it was shortly after the political unrest in Kenya at that time. As well as the magnificent scenery, quite different to the Masai Mara, I drove the safari jeep for quite a few of our safari drives which added to the fun and excitement , especially the river crossings! As well as the scenery, this video shows the wildlife which live in Meru National Park. After this trip we then flew to the Masai Mara (where once again I flew the plane for part of the flight!). First ever herbivore census conducted at Meru National Park
he first ever herbivores census targeting all mammals was conducted at
Meru National Park.
Experts have noted that there was an increase in the number of buffaloes
and their calves because in 2014 during the aerial count targeting big
mammals, there was a record of about 2 000 buffalos.

Reticulated Giraffes in Meru National Park, Kenya
There are three variations of Giraffes in Kenya. This video contains only of Reticulated Giraffes, filmed in the wild in Meru National Park, north east of Mount Kenya. The other two Giraffes in Kenya are the Rothschild Giraffe and Maasai Giraffe which can be found south of Mount Kenya. This was filmed in Meru National Park, Kenya early 2011. Safari in Meru Kenya June 2015
This Safari was filmed in late June 2015 in Meru National Park in Kenya. It was a few weeks after the end of the long rains. The weather was hot at around 28-30 degrees centigrade but cool enough at night to make sleeping fairly comfortable. Sweaters weren't needed at all.
Vegetation was still quite green, along the river valleys, of which there are many in Meru. The bush was generally dry and the lack of leaves aided game sightings. The open grasslands were drying out to brown and gold.
Game sightings were very good and there is a large variety of big game found in the park and neighbouring Bisanadi National Reserve.
There is a rhino sanctuary of around 100 square kilometres in the north of the park. Black and white rhinos are present.
Poaching of elephants has declined in the last three years. Snares for bushmeat remain a great menace , and thousands have been collected by park rangers.
Highly recommended for a visit and with the added bonus that visitor numbers are low.
