Michael Quirke - Sligo Woodcarver and Storyteller
Michael Quirke of Sligo, Ireland carves is a brilliant woodcarver and storyteller operating from his old butcher's shop on Wine Street in Sligo town.
He states that he was the worst butcher in Sligo, but people liked his carvings and stories, so he converted his shop to an art studio and he'll tell you a story if you stop in.
Here, Michael tells of the Girl of Many Gifts. He's addressing a group from our Images in the Landscape tour in 2018.
Most of Michael's art represents the ancient stories and figures in Irish Mythology. He's one of the great characters of Ireland.

Michael Quirke - Sligo Woodcarver
This is a video I took from back a few years ago when I visited Ireland.
Michael Quirke is a story teller and wood carver. He puts celtic stories into these beautiful rough hewn statues he's been making out of his old butcher shop for many years now.
Please ignore my dumb yeahs and uh-huhs.
You can find his trip advisor page here. I can't stress enough how much I recommend making time to meet him.
