Peter Mungo Jupp: Instant Fossilization | EU2017
Peter Jupp will discuss petrification as instantaneous and under the control of dynamic Earth-shaking events. What have we found on Earth to demonstrate this hypothesis? A forest of giant trees turned to solid rock. A soft-bodied crab petrified to rock and enclosed in the center of a basalt Thunderegg. Dinosaur remains that conceal a heart replete with chambers but turned to iron. A shoal of fish in their death throes petrified within the limestone. Was their end instantaneous and more importantly what force of nature created this scenario? Classically, geological time is the vehicle cited but Peter will show that there is compelling evidence for a new paradigm.
Peter ‘Mungo’ Jupp is an Australian archaeologist who majored in Archaeology at the University of Melbourne (BA) and also attended their School of Creative Arts where he studied filmmaking techniques and production. In earlier years, he studied Applied Chemistry at RMIT and later fine arts at Chisholm Institute of Technology. In his commercial career, he lectured in Medical Imaging at the Sydney University School of Radiology. Wide scientific knowledge was gained while working for Siemens medical, Hewlett-Packard medical, Toshiba medical, ATL, and Medtel. The resulting culmination of knowledge in areas such as magnetic phenomena, chemistry, and biology, as well as ancient history and mythology, powerfully informs his unique slant on archaeology. Peter has produced 22 films on “Ancient Destructions,” following his passionate interest in uncovering lost human and earth eras. These films can be viewed on his subscription website: mungoflix.com Peter also writes articles on catastrophism themes at his other website: ancientdestructions.com.

The modern way of burying a body, the casket in the ground method most of us are used to is horrible for the environment. It uses an incredible amount of resources, emits toxic pollutants into the air, and pumps the ground full of formaldehyde, which is known to cause cancer. It's also prohibitively expensive. The average cost of a modern funeral costs between $10,000 to $12,000.
There are a number of greener options available though. Cremation uses less resources and requires less space than a traditional burial, but isn't perfect. There are more experimental methods on the horizon such as promession and alkaline hydrolysis.
No matter which method we choose, it's clear that we need to reform how we bury the dead.

Can Woolly Worms Predict the Weather?
Have You Ever Wondered...
Can woolly worms predict the weather?
Is it going to be a harsh winter? Or will it be mild? How can you tell?
Do you rely on the almanac? Or do you turn to woolly worms?
For many, many years, legend has held that woolly worms can predict whether the coming winter will be mild or harsh. Is there any truth to this belief? Or is it an old wives' tale?
woolly worms are actually the larval stage of the Isabella tiger moth (Pyrrharctia Isabella). They are known by various names, including woolly bear caterpillars, banded woolly bears, fuzzy bears and black-ended bears.
woolly worms get their name from their fuzzy appearance. They have black bands at each end with a red-brown band in the middle.
Each autumn, woolly bear caterpillars take shelter under leaves and other low-lying vegetation. In the spring, they complete their transformation into Isabella tiger moths.
People who believe woolly worms can predict the weather think that a narrow red-brown band means a harsh winter. The wider the red-brown band is, the milder the coming winter is supposed to be.
There are several towns in the United States that hold annual woolly worm festivals each fall. In addition to caterpillar races, these festivals also usually feature an official declaration of the woolly worm's prediction for the coming winter.
But how accurate are woolly worms at predicting the weather? As it turns out, they're not so accurate.
Scientists who have tested woolly worms' predictions have found that there is no correlation between woolly worms' bands and winter weather. Instead, they note that the color and size of a woolly worm's bands are likely affected by several factors, including availability of food, conditions during development, age and species.
woolly worms aren't the only creatures that people look to for information about the weather, though. Here are some of the other animals and insects that people believe have weather-predicting abilities:
Groundhogs: Each February 2, Americans wait for groundhog Punxsutawney Phil to predict whether we will have six more weeks of winter or an early spring. Unfortunately, the National Climatic Data Center claims that Phil has only correctly predicted the weather about 39 percent of the time.
Frogs: Some people believe that frogs croak louder and longer than normal when bad weather is on the way.
Birds: How high are the birds in the sky? This is the question some people ask themselves. They believe that high-flying birds signal clear weather, and low-flying birds mean a storm is headed your way.
Bees: If you notice that the bees buzzing around your flowers have suddenly gone missing, you can bet that bad weather may be on the way.
Ladybugs: As the old saying goes, “When the ladybugs swarm, expect a day that's warm. On the other hand, if they're looking for shelter, cold weather is on its way.
Ants: If you notice ants building up their mounds for extra protection or even covering the mounds' holes, you might want to prepare for some rain!
Can all of these animals and insects successfully predict the weather? Not always!
However, scientists do believe that many animals and insects have heightened senses that allow them to predict when certain types of weather are imminent. Confirm with the weatherman, but pay attention when you see animals and insects behaving in strange ways!

Eating the Past: Why and How To Study Food History by Dr. Megan J. Elias
April 14, 2010
Food is the 'fiber' of every sect of society around the world. Exploring what people ate in the past, how they ate, who shared their meals, and what they said about food helps us to understand not only cultural norms of long ago but also how these historical societal structures are relevant to our own lives.
Dr. Megan Elias, historian and author of several books, will address the emerging field of food history in America, specifically the meal known as lunch.
Drawing on her research in American food history, Dr. Megan Elias will lecture on how the midday meal -- whether it is the medieval peasant's pottage or the Wall Street power lunch -- allows new insights into major historical trends such as industrialization, urbanization, and increasing gender equality.
Dr. Elias has presented on the topic of food in American history at several national and international conferences.
Dr. Megan J. Elias, Associate Professor of History at Queensborough Community College, a College of The City University of New York (CUNY) teaches U.S. History Before 1877, American Women's History, African-American History and Food History.
Dr. Elias is the author of Stir it Up: Home Economics in American Culture (2008, University of Pennsylvania Press), and Food in the United States, 1890-1945 (2009 Greenwood Press), chosen by the American Library Association as one of the Outstanding Academic Texts of the year. She is currently working on Taste of the Nation, a book about American cookbooks and culture. Dr. Elias is also co-author of Queensborough at 50: Celebrate the Memories, a history of Queensborough Community College, published in celebration of the College's fiftieth anniversary.
Dr. Elias received a B.A. degree in American History and Poetry from Cornell University, an M.A. degree in History from San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D. in History from The City University of New York Graduate Center.

The area forms the core of the historical Pee Dee region of South Carolina, which includes the eight counties of northeastern South Carolina, along with sections of southeastern North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population of Florence was 37,056, and the estimated population in 2015 was 38,228. Florence is one of the major cities in South Carolina. In 1965, Florence was named an All-American City, presented by the National Civic League. The city was founded as a railroad hub and became the junction of three major railroad systems, including the Wilmington and Manchester, the Northeastern, and the Cheraw and Darlington. As of today, the city retains its status as a major hub in ...
