10/01/2017: Portuguese Baby Shower!
Lisbon trip gluten free, vegan friendly cafe, great pastry. Palmela sunset 里斯本之旅不含麩
We visited this amazing cafe in Lisbon. The entire cafe is gluten free, also has many vegan friendly options in the cafe. It used to be hard to find vegan friendly restaurants in Portugal, but it is now getting a revival, so in Lisbon they are in abundance. At the end of the evening, we visited Palmela Castle, to watch the sunset. I love entertaining, there is so many pastry places that sell mini pastries, that you can take away. I used the gorgeous mini pastries I bought from my local pastries shop and flowers to entertain guests.
The Lisbon cafe is called Pantry No 6, Despensa No 6. The address is Av. Sacadura Cabral 6A, 1000-274 Lisbon

We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves... We travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more - Pico Iyer
We’ve got a brand new series on YouTube ???????? #JKvacays is all about traveling in style and finding yourself along the way.
No, this is not another travel vlog where I take you along on trips so you’re jealous of the places I’ve visited, the things I’ve seen, and the food I’ve eaten. Travel to me means immersing yourself in the culture, exploring hidden gems from the local’s perspective, and bringing that travel vibe back home. So instead of wondering when your next vacation will be, design a life you don’t need to escape from.
First up: A city that I’ve visited over 20 times in my life, yet never ceases to amaze me with every return trip. It’s always changing, always evolving, full of life, love, and pulsating energy, and one that I would move to in a heartbeat: San Francisco ???? 3 glorious days in the Bay for our 3 year anniversary! ❤ Check out how we shopped, shot, and ate our way through the city!
Now get out there and see what the world has to offer! My hope is that through this series #JKvacays I will show you how to travel in style from a whole new designer’s perspective.

SUMMARY
=======
The Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie or VOC) is one of the most influential and best expertly researched companies/corporations in history. As an exemplary historical company-state, the VOC had effectively transformed itself from a corporate entity into a state, an empire, or even a world in its own right. The VOC World (i.e. networks of people, places, things, activities, and events associated with the Dutch East India Company) has been the subject of a vast amount of literature that includes both fiction and non-fiction works. VOC World studies is an international multidisciplinary field focused on social, cultural, religious, scientific, technological, economic, financial, business, maritime, military, political, legal, diplomatic activities, institutional organization, and administration of the VOC and its colourful world. Some of the notable VOC historians/scholars include Sinnappah Arasaratnam, Leonard Blussé, Peter Borschberg, Charles Ralph Boxer, Jaap Bruijn, Femme Gaastra, Om Prakash, Günter Schilder, and Nigel Worden.
In terms of global business history, the lessons from the VOC's success and failure are critically important. With a permanent capital base, the VOC was the first permanently organized limited-liability joint-stock company at the dawn of modern capitalism. As an early pioneering model of the modern corporation, the VOC was the first corporation to be ever actually listed on a formal stock exchange. In the early 1600s the VOC became the world's first formally listed public company (or publicly listed company) by widely issuing bonds and shares of stock to the general public. In many respects, modern-day publicly listed multinational corporations (including Forbes Global 2000 companies) are all 'descendants' of the 17th-century VOC business model.
For almost 200 years of its existence (1602–1800), the Company played crucial roles in business, financial, socio-politico-economic, military-political, diplomatic, legal, ethnic, and exploratory maritime history of the world. In the early modern period, the VOC was the driving force behind the rise of corporate-led globalization, corporate power, corporate identity, corporate culture, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, corporate finance, corporate capitalism, and finance capitalism. It was the VOC's institutional innovations and business practices that laid the foundations for the rise of giant global corporations to become a highly significant and formidable socio-politico-economic force of the modern world as we know it today ...

The body responds to four primordial basic rules: breathe, feed, sleep and eliminate. For Irène Grosjean, naturopath for 55 years, the food plays an essential part: the idea is to provide the body with the fuel that is most adapted to it. Moreover, it is about favoring elimination and cleaning the fluids in which bathe our cells. Through these two angles, we can recover everything nature intended for us: health, joy, creativity and all goods things in life.
This way, it is not natural to be unhealthy, to dwell on dark thoughts, to feel a chronic lack of energy, to age in pain, etc. As proof, this 83 year old naturopath is brimming with energy and vitality.
An interview with this great lady full of wisdom and common sense who shares with us her ideas about this common sense we need to acquire, this right direction that we can chose, and about Life in general that is given to all of us, abundantly!

SUMMARY
=======
Western civilization traces its roots back to Europe and the Mediterranean. It is linked to the Roman Empire and with Medieval Western Christendom which emerged from the Middle Ages to experience such transformative episodes as the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, scientific revolution, and the development of liberal democracy. The civilizations of Classical Greece and Ancient Rome are considered seminal periods in Western history; a few cultural contributions also emerged from the pagan peoples of pre-Christian Europe, such as the Celts and Germans, as well as some significant religious contributions derived from Judaism and Hellenistic Judaism stemming back to Second Temple Judea, Galilee, and the early Jewish diaspora; and some other Middle Eastern influences. Christianity and Roman Catholicism has played a prominent role in the shaping of Western civilization, which throughout most of its history, has been nearly equivalent to Christian culture. (There were Christians outside of the West, such as China, India, Russia, Byzantium and the Middle East). Western civilization has spread to produce the dominant cultures of modern Americas and Oceania, and has had immense global influence in recent centuries in many ways.
Following the 5th century Fall of Rome, Western Europe entered the Middle Ages, during which period the Catholic Church filled the power vacuum left in the West by the fall of the Western Roman Empire, while the Eastern Roman Empire (or Byzantine Empire) endured in the East for centuries, becoming a Hellenic Eastern contrast to the Latin West. By the 12th century, Western Europe was experiencing a flowering of art and learning, propelled by the construction of cathedrals and the establishment of medieval universities. Christian unity was shattered by the Reformation from the 16th century. A merchant class grew out of city states, initially in the Italian peninsula (see Italian city-states), and Europe experienced the Renaissance from the 14th to the 17th century, heralding an age of technological and artistic advance and ushering in the Age of Discovery which saw the rise of such global European Empires as those of Spain and Portugal.
The Industrial Revolution began in Britain in the 18th century. Under the influence of the Enlightenment, the Age of Revolution emerged from the United States and France as part of the transformation of the West into its industrialised, democratised modern form. The lands of North and South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand became first part of European Empires and then home to new Western nations, while Africa and Asia were largely carved up between Western powers. Laboratories of Western democracy were founded in Britain's colonies in Australasia from the mid-19th centuries, while South America largely created new autocracies. In the 20th century, absolute monarchy disappeared from Europe, and despite episodes of Fascism and Communism, by the close of the century, virtually all of Europe was electing its leaders democratically. Most Western nations were heavily involved in the First and Second World Wars and protracted Cold War. World War II saw Fascism defeated in Europe, and the emergence of the United States and Soviet Union as rival global powers and a new East-West political contrast.
Other than in Russia, the European Empires disintegrated after World War II and civil rights movements and widescale multi-ethnic, multi-faith migrations to Europe, the Americas and Oceania lowered the earlier predominance of ethnic Europeans in Western culture. European nations moved towards greater economic and political co-operation through the European Union. The Cold War ended around 1990 with the collapse of Soviet imposed Communism in Central and Eastern Europe. In the 21st century, the Western World retains significant global economic power and influ ...
