La Piazza del Popolo (Plaza del Pueblo) Es sin duda una de las plazas más conocidas y famosas de la ciudad de Roma. Es muy amplia, y se encuentra rodeada de edificaciones llamativas e imponentes. La misma plaza alberga grandes tesoros históricos, como el maravilloso obelisco Flaminio, representante de la grandiosidad del Egipto faraónico, originalmente creado como homenaje a Ramsés II. También son impresionantes las Iglesias Gemelas, vecinas de la Plaza del Popolo.
En realidad, esta famosa e importante plaza de la capital de Italia se encuentra muy cerca del Monte Pincio. Subiendo por las escaleras laterales de la plaza se puede subir a este imponente monte, desde donde disfrutarás de maravillosas vistas de parte de Roma y la plaza. ¡Aprovecha para realizar fotografías, porque los paisajes son realmente bonitos!

ITALIA ROMA VILA BORGHESE
En 1605 el cardenal Scipione Borghese, sobrino del papa Paulo V y mecenas de Bernini, comenzó a transformar esta zona, entonces cultivada de viñas sobre el monte Pincio, en el jardín más grande construido en la Roma antigua. Este lugar ha sido identificado como los Jardines de Lúculo de los tiempos del antiguo Imperio romano.
En el siglo XIX gran parte de la parcela fue transformada en un jardín paisajístico estilo inglés. En 1902, acuciada por problemas económicos, la familia Borghese segregó el edificio principal, sede de la Galería Borghese, y lo vendió con su contenido al Estado italiano. Los jardines fueron adquiridos al año siguiente por el Ayuntamiento de Roma y abiertos al público el 12 de julio de 1903.
El gran parque tiene 9 entradas. Las más frecuentadas son la de Porta Pinciana, la de Plaza de España, la de la rampe del Pincio desde la Piazza del Popolo, y la entrada monumental del Piazzale Flaminio.
Desde el monte Pincio, en la parte sur, se puede ver algunas de las más espectaculares vistas de Roma.
La villa en sí, Villa Borghese Pinciana fue construida por el arquitecto Flaminio Ponzio, que desarrolló los esquemas de Scipione Borghese. Hoy es la sede de la Galería Borghese. A la muerte de Ponzio, los trabajos fueron terminados por el flamenco Giovanni Vasanzio (cuyo verdadero nombre era Jan van Santen). El edificio fue destinado por Camillo Borghese a contener las esculturas de Bernini (entre ellas el David y Apolo y Daphne) y de Antonio Canova (por ejemplo la Paolina Borghese que representa a Paulina Bonaparte ). También los cuadros de Tiziano, Rafael y de Caravaggio.
Contigua a Villa Borghese, al pie de la colina, está Villa Giulia, construida entre 1551 - 1555 como residencia veraniega para el Papa Julio III. Actualmente aloja el Museo Nacional Etrusco de Roma.
En el interior de Villa Borghese está también la Villa Médici, sede en Roma de la Academia Francesa. Es una pequeña fortaleza que aloja la colección del escultor Pietro Canonica.
Hay más edificios en el viale delle Belle Arti (viaducto de las Bellas Artes), construidos para la Exposición Universal de Roma, en 1911. La Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna es el más destacado. En su interior también está el zoológico de Roma, transformado recientemente en Bioparque, y la Casa del cine, situada en la Casa de las rosas.
Villa Borghese es sede el concurso hípico Piazza di Siena, que tuvo en 2006 su 74ª edición.

Via Margutta is a narrow street in the centre of Rome, near Piazza del Popolo, accessible from Via del Babuino in the ancient Campo Marzio neighborhood also known as the foreigner's quarter. Mount Pincio is nearby. Via Margutta originally was home to modest craftsmen, workshops and stables, but now hosts many art galleries and fashionable restaurants.
After the film Roman Holiday became popular, Via Margutta developed into an exclusive neighborhood, where various famous people lived, such as film director Federico Fellini. From the north the area can be reached from Via Cassia or Flaminia, passing then through Piazzale Flaminio, and through the city door in the wall that leads to Piazza del Popolo. From this point one walks several metres to the left of Flaminio Obelisk towards Via del Babuino, and on the left there is an alley that leads to Via Margutta. From Piazza di Spagna, one can take via del Babbuino, turn right on via Albert, and via Margutta will be on the left.
The name probably originates from the word Marisgutta, meaning Sea Drop, a gentle euphemism for a dirty stream that came down from the hill of the villa of the Pincii, used like a natural Roman Cloaca. Via Margutta was behind the palaces of Via del Babuino (Babboon road), where warehouses and stables were found.
At the base of Pincio hill, there were homes and shops of masons, marble cutters, and coachmen, who conducted their business in the areas. In the Middle Ages an unknown artist opened the first workshop where the finest Roman craftsmen painted portraits, cut marble for fountains and forged metal plates, giving birth to a flourishing industry that attracted foreign artists (including Flemish and German), as well as Italians from other regions. These immigrants gradually replaced the shacks and stables with houses, workshops and gardens.
During the reign of Pope Pius IX, (1846-1878), a Belgian monsignor, Saverio de Merode, seeing the potential of the area, purchased land, built drains, and incorporated the narrow street into the public city plan. Via Margutta today is a charming, quiet lane. Although it is fully in the city centre, it still maintains its garden atmosphere, perfumed by trees and vineyards, which has made it a perfect choice for artists, painters, sculptors, and antiquarians, even though many of former artists' studios have been converted into flats and apartments.

Il Pincio (o colle Pinciano, dal latino mons Pincius) è un colle di Roma. Il colle si trova a nord del Quirinale, e guarda sul Campo Marzio. Diverse ville e giardini occupano il colle, compresa Villa Borghese. Da piazzale Napoleone I, in cima al colle, c'è un ampio panorama su piazza del Popolo e sul rione Prati, che sorge su quelli che, fino alla fine dell'800, erano i Prati di Castello.
