Colorado State Capitol 02132010
Colorado State Capitol, Denver Colorado
.September 24, 1858, St. Charles was established where the Cherry Creek and Platte River meet and the area now known as lower downtown area- east of the Platte and to the northeast of Cherry Creek , to about 16th St and Larimer St..
November 1, 1858, before legal papers to name the area St. Charles, the Auraria Town Company was organized. Auraria was the first permanent settlement in what is now Denver.
November 22, 1858, General Larimer assumed the St. Charles claim. General Larimer and his men voted to establish the Denver City Town Company. General Larimer named the town in honor of the Kansas Territorial Governor, James William Denver.
November of 1861, Governor William Gilpin called the first session of the Territorial Legislature in Denver, an area that is now known as LoDo. The second session was held in Colorado City, now a part of Colorado Springs. The Legislature first selected Colorado City as the capital of Colorado. By the second session, they decided to move back to Denver in July of 1862.
The only problem, which faced the Territorial Legislature, was the real owners of the land. The entire area belonged to the Native Americans. The problem was solved
when the land was taken away from them by Congressional action in 1864.
February 1864, the session met in Golden City, but returned to Denver to finish their work. The Legislature met in Golden City and Denver until finally deciding on Denver early in 1876.
August 1; 1876, Colorado achieved statehood.
In 1867, the land for the state capitol, ten acres between Grant and Lincoln Streets and Colfax and 14th Avenue, was donated by landowner Henry C. Brown (the builder of the Brown Palace Hotel).. Henry Brown, not to be confused with J. J .Brown, the Denver silver baron who was the husband of the famous Molly Unsinkable Brown (whose elegant mansion, now a museum, still stands at 1340 Pennsylvania, Denver).
April 8, 1881, the voters of Colorado approved Denver as the capital city of Colorado ending a long struggle to locate the capital elsewhere.
April 1, 1885, the construction of the gold domed state capitol finally began after 18 years of heated discussions and attempts by Brown to regain his land back from the state.
The discussion continued regarding the construction of the capitol (it was to be build of sandstone but wisely they chose the more durable granite).
Finally, on July 4, 1890, the cornerstone was laid.
January 1895, twenty-eight years after acquiring the land, the citizens vote where the state capital was to be, one lawsuit by Mr. Brown to retain the land, heated discussions regarding the capital building and the actual construction, the 10th Session of the State Legislature finally occupied the grand building. The final construction continued past the turn of the century, around 1901, at a total cost of almost three million dollars.
The Colorado capitol building, with its 24K gold dome (200 ounces of gold and another 50 ounces were applied in 1950) and magnificent stonework, is considered one of the most striking such structures in the nation.

Monty's Plant Food Company Dedicates Garden at the Louisville Zoo in Memory of Co-founder Monty Justice
Louisville, Ky.—Louisville-based Monty's Plant Food Company, a leading marketer and manufacturer of soil enhancement and plant fertility programs, dedicated a special garden today at the Louisville Zoo in memory of the company's co-founder Montrose Monty Justice. Justice, who passed away in early February, was a celebrated competitive rose grower and once owned a rose care business that maintained more than 150 rose gardens throughout the region.
Designed and planted by Justice's granddaughter, Sarah Stephens, for her Girl Scout Gold Project, the garden is nestled near the lake just a short walk from the Zoo's entrance. Plantings include roses from Monty's own garden and a variety of trees. Sarah worked to secure donations, select plants and establish the garden. She and her father, Dennis Stephens, president of Monty's Plant Food Company, also announced that they will teach a free, four-part rose care seminar at the Louisville Zoo.
The memorial garden will be maintained by Zoo horticulturalists with assistance from Sarah and Dennis Stephens. A memorial bench with a plaque dedicated In Loving Memory to Monty Justice adorns the front of the garden and welcomes visitors to sit and enjoy.
Many people don't know that the Louisville Zoo includes botanical gardens, but we felt it was a fitting place to share some of Monty's prize roses with the community, Stephens said. Monty was very active and touched many lives, including as a volunteer basketball coach for more than 40 years. We wanted to create a place where people could come to remember him and continue to enjoy his roses.
Monty's Plant Food Company contributed more than $5,000 to the Louisville Zoo, in addition to plants and manpower to create the garden, a new area for rest and relaxation at the zoo.

Driving Downtown - Bronx 4K - New York City USA
Driving Downtown - Bronx New York City New York USA - Episode 40.
Starting Point: .
The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City, within the U.S. state of New York.
The Bronx contains one of the five poorest Congressional Districts in the United States, the 15th, but its wide diversity also includes affluent, upper-income and middle-income neighborhoods such as Riverdale, Fieldston, Spuyten Duyvil, Schuylerville, Pelham Bay, Pelham Gardens, Morris Park and Country Club.[10][11] The Bronx, particularly the South Bronx, saw a sharp decline in population, livable housing, and the quality of life in the late 1960s and the 1970s, culminating in a wave of arson. Since then the communities have shown significant redevelopment starting in the late 1980s before picking up pace from the 1990s until today.
About a quarter of the Bronx's area is open space,[5] including Woodlawn Cemetery, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo in the borough's north and center. These open spaces are situated primarily on land deliberately reserved in the late 19th century as urban development progressed north and east from Manhattan.
The name Bronx originated with Jonas Bronck, who established the first settlement in the area as part of the New Netherland colony in 1639.[6][7][8] The native Lenape were displaced after 1643 by settlers. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Bronx received many immigrant groups as it was transformed into an urban community, first from various European countries (particularly Ireland, Germany and Italy) and later from the Caribbean region (particularly Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic), as well as African American migrants from the southern United States.[9] This cultural mix has made the Bronx a wellspring of both Latin music and hip hop.
Revitalization
In 1997, the Bronx was designated an All America City by the National Civic League, acknowledging its comeback from the decline of the mid-century.[65] In 2006, The New York Times reported that construction cranes have become the borough's new visual metaphor, replacing the window decals of the 1980s in which pictures of potted plants and drawn curtains were placed in the windows of abandoned buildings.[66] The borough has experienced substantial new building construction since 2002. Between 2002 and June 2007, 33,687 new units of housing were built or were under way and $4.8 billion has been invested in new housing. In the first six months of 2007 alone total investment in new residential development was $965 million and 5,187 residential units were scheduled to be completed. Much of the new development is springing up in formerly vacant lots across the South Bronx.[67]
Sports
The Bronx is the home of the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.
