The Morris Island Lighthouse - Folly Beach, South Carolina
We spent some time in South Carolina and headed to Folly Beach in search of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Decommissioned in 1962, the lighthouse no longer provides a beacon for navigation. If you're ever in the area be sure to check out Folly Beach and the Morris Island Light. You won't be disappointed.

Drone video of Morris Island Lighthouse in Charleston, South Carolina. Beautiful relaxing video with sea gulls and birds and beautiful lighting over the water. Marsh canals, sand and waves crashing at the base of the light. Close up video of the top of the beautiful light is also included in this video.
Morris Island Lighthouse Crash
Took my new Phantom 3 Standard to Folly Beach to get footage of the Morris Island Lighthouse. I flew the drone on the opposite side of the lighthouse to where we were standing and it lost signal and went into Return to home mode. I didn't adjust my safe altitude to be higher than the lighthouse so it tried to fly straight through the lighthouse to get back to me. Somehow it recovered from the crash and I was able to throttle up and fly it back. Survived with just a few scars!
Morris Island Lighthouse Dark & Stormy

Hunting Island Lighthouse, South Carolina
While there are many more remote lighthouses Hunting Island has an unspoiled quality to it that I experience each time I visit. The lighthouse itself was constructed so that it could be disassembled and the reassembled if necessary. The photos are primarily by my wife Sandra, but a few of the shots are mine. The music is composed by myself. Chris Lindstrom
Colonel L.M. Keitt Gravesite
Colonel L.M. Keitt resigned his seat in the U.S. Congress at the beginning of the War Between The States and Commanded the 20th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment. For the most part of the war up until May 1864, he and his regiment served in Charleston, SC and he was in charge of the Confederate garrison at the time Morris Island was evacuated in September 1863. The regiment left for Virginia at the end of May and his first battle in that state was on June 1, 1864. It was the 2nd battle at Cold Harbor near Richmond. While leading his regiment on horseback in that battle, he was struck mortally wounded by a bullet. He died the next day. Ironically, another South Carolina Colonel was killed on the same day at Bermuda Hundred. His name was O.M. Dantzler who had previously served as Lt. Col. for the 20th SC and transfered to command the 22nd South Carolina Regiment. The two were actually neighbors from St. Matthews, South Carolina. Both men were brought home together and buried at the old Tabernacle Chruch Cemetery near St. Matthews. Eventually, Keitt was exhumed and reburied at the West End Cemetery. I assume this was around the time the old church disappeared.

Ep. 119 - Folly Beach Island
The barrier island of Folly Beach, South Carolina appears picturesque with its images of waves lapping against the sand. Locals refer to it as the Edge of America. Below the surface of painted sunsets and beautiful beaches lies a dark history of mysterious and tragic losses. Folly Beach really has it all from shipwrecks to the Civil War to pirates. Blackbeard himself took cover at Folly Beach. A native tribe also died out here. Is it this colorful history that has led to rumors of hauntings? Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of Folly Beach. Moment in Oddity features the Dr. Suess House as suggested by listener Ren Davenport and This Day in History features the Shot Heard Round the World. Location was suggested by listener Dee and Research Assistants were Sharon Spungen and April Rogers-Krick.

Places to see in ( Charleston - USA )
Places to see in ( Charleston - USA )
Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water.
The zenith of old-world charm, Charleston whisks you into the nation's tumultuous past and nourishes your mind, heart and stomach in roughly equal measure. This lovely city will embrace you with the warmth and hospitality of an old and dear friend – who lived in the 18th century. We jest, but the cannons, cemeteries and carriage rides absolutely conjure an earlier era. Here, signers of the Declaration of Independence puffed cigars and whispered of revolution in the withdrawing rooms of historic homes, and the first shots of the Civil War rang out over Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. The city itself was built on slave labor, and several related sights are among the nation's most important educators on the long-standing oppression of African Americans.
Charleston's most beloved 19th-century porch furnishing was the joggling board – a bouncy, wooden rocking bench that couples sat on back in the day as part of a courtship ritual. Not much has changed. Today lovers stroll cobblestone streets past historic buildings, stop to smell the blooming jasmine and enjoy long, candlelit dinners on verandas. Everywhere you turn another blushing bride is standing on the steps of yet another enchanting church. Above all, this is a place for seduction by Southern hospitality – Charleston will charm the sweat right off your brow.
Charleston was founded in 1670 as Charles Town, honoring King Charles II of England. Its initial location at Albemarle Point on the west bank of the Ashley River (now Charles Towne Landing) was abandoned in 1680 for its present site, which became the fifth-largest city in North America within ten years. Despite its size, it remained unincorporated throughout the colonial period; its government was handled directly by a colonial legislature and a governor sent by London. Election districts were organized according to Anglican parishes, and some social services were managed by Anglican wardens and vestries. Charleston adopted its present spelling with its incorporation as a city in 1783 at the close of the Revolutionary War. Population growth in the interior of South Carolina influenced the removal of the state government to Columbia in 1788.
