Explore Colorado Dinosaur Ridge
Head just 20 minutes west of Denver and you can walk in the steps of dinosaurs. It really is a trek through time at Dinosaur Ridge, just off Alameda Parkway in Morrison. Dinosaur Ridge is famous for its tracks site. There are over 320 tracks from different types of dinosaurs in a fairly small area. The tracks are easy to see and there’s even one area where you can literally walk in the footprints of dinosaurs. A hundred million years ago, instead of the ridge and foothills that are there now, the area was a flat sandy beach with rivers flowing into the ocean.
At one, about 92 million years ago, everything in Colorado was underwater. There’s proof of that with ripple marks at Dinosaur Ridge and you can also find seashells in the Morrison and Golden areas, among other spots in Colorado.
On the other side of the ridge, which is right across from the 300 million year old Red Rocks, is an area where you can see the evidence of rivers that were like braided rivers in a swamp or bog area that flowed into the ocean. You can see the stream channels, bones in boulders and rocks, and even a cross section view, or sideways view, of dinosaur footprints. The sandstone on the river side of the ridge is finer than the tracks site side.
Just a short drive away and right across from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden is the 1.5 mile Tricertops Trail. On the trail, you can climb in and out of the areas that were clay pits that have been mined. Left of the sandstone, you can see entire ecosystems from plant fossils to even some T-Rex tracks. It’s free to visit the Triceratops Trail. Just make sure you are wearing comfy shoes and clothes for the walk in and out of pits.
At Dinosaur Ridge, shuttle bus tours last 45 minutes. The tour is $4 for ages 4 and up. Entry into the exhibit hall at the visitor center is $1 for ages 4 and up. Children ages 3 and under are free for both.
Summer camps are back this year at Dinosaur Ridge. They are offered several weeks this summer. Cost is $275 for members and $300 for non-members. Yearly family memberships are $40 and individual is $25.
If you want a great hike, then head up on the Dakota Ridge Trail on top of Dinosaur Ridge. It’s about 2.2 miles from the trailhead at Dinosaur Ridge over to the parking lot near I-70. Just watch out for rattlesnakes along the top of the ridge, just like you’ll find hiking in other spots like Green Mountain and even in Red Rocks Park.

Dinosaur Footprints at Dinosaur Ridge - Morrison, Colorado
Dinosaur Ridge is one of the world's most famous dinosaur fossil areas. It was around 1877 that some of the best-known dinosaur fossils were found there, including Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Stegosaurus, and Allosaurus.
In 1973, the area was recognized for its uniqueness as well as its historical and scientific significance when it was designated the Morrison Fossil Area National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. Friends of Dinosaur Ridge was formed in 1989 to address increasing concerns regarding the preservation of the site and to offer educational programs.
The rocks on the west side of Dinosaur Ridge are part of the widespread Morrison Formation from the Jurassic age. It was here, in 1877, where Arthur Lakes discovered dinosaur bones. Fifteen quarries were opened along the Dakota hogback in the Morrison area in search of fossils.

Locomotive Turntable at Tokyo's Railway Museum
Twice a day the Railway Museum spins a giant, 67.5-ton JNR C57 Class steam locomotive on a turntable in the center of the museum. This takes about 7 minutes. The first half of this video is at the actual speed, most of the rest is sped up.

Creation Evidence Museum 2016 Colorado Dinosaur Excavations - Introduction
Jurassic Reimagined P.1 Giants in The Sands of Time
Join us as we explore the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation in search of giant dinosaurs, and clues to how they lived and evolved in their ancient world...
In Jurassic Reimagined part 1, we'll introduce you to the Morrison Formation, what it is, and how it formed, and what we know about it's geology and its dinosaur diversity. And even after 150 years of intense scientific exploration and study, the Jurassic rocks of north America still hold many mysteries, and countless fossils still waiting to be discovered.
This documentary series was made in collaboration with paleontologists Matt Wedel, ReBecca Hunt-Foster and John Foster, and was filmed by paleoartist Brian Engh over the course of five years exploring the Jurassic rocks of Utah and Colorado.

You can see John Foster hard at work in the fossil preparation lab at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum in Vernal Utah, where you can also see some of the fossils we've collected during the making of this documentary.
We also owe a big thanks to Dr. Randall Irmis, Carrie Levitt-Bussian and Tyler Birthisel, the Natural History Museum of Utah, who have been working with John in collaboration with the to excavate the rare sauropod Dystrophaeus.

Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado, United States
Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado 2005
The Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument is a national monument located in Teller County, Colorado. The location is famous for the abundant and exceptionally preserved insect and plant fossils that are found in the mudstones and shales of the Florissant Formation. Based on argon radiometric dating, the formation is Eocene (approximately 34 million years old ) in age and has been interpreted as a lake environment. The fossils have been preserved because of the interaction of the volcanic ash from the nearby Thirtynine Mile volcanic field with diatoms in the lake, causing an algal bloom. As the algae fell to the bottom of the lake, any plants or animals that had recently died were preserved by the algal mats. Fine layers of clays and muds interspersed with layers of ash form paper shales holding beautifully-preserved fossils.

Colorado Museum Makes No Bones About Restoring Dinosaurs to Original Form
The gigantic brachiosaurus, the fierce and deadly tyrannosaurus, the fast and nimble velociraptor.
There are more than 1,000 known types of dinosaurs, with an estimated 2,000 more yet to be discovered, according to paleontologists - dinosaur experts. (In the second of his two-part series,) Joseph Mok of VOA's Mandarin Service takes us first to U.S. state of Colorado and then to the nation's capital to learn more about the giant creatures that populated the earth millions of years ago.
Dinosaur, Colorado
Downtown Dinosaur, Colorado as recorded in the middle of the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and State Highway 64 (Brontosaurus Blvd and Stegosaurus Freeway, respectively).
Dinosaur is located in Moffat County, Colorado, about 250 miles (400 kilometres) west of the state capitol in Denver.
At the time of this recording the town had a population of around 350 people. The town's original name was Artesia but was changed, in 1966, to capitalize on the nearby tourist destination of Dinosaur National Monument.
