House of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus-Turkey
The House of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos in the vicinity of Ephesus, Turkey. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a paralyzed German Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death. One of Emmerich's accounts was a description of the house the Apostle John had built in Ephesus for Mary, the mother of Jesus, where she had lived to the end of her life.
Archaeologists who have examined the building believe most of the building dates from the 6th or 7th century but its foundations are much older and may well date from the 1st century AD, the time of Mary. The Catholic Church has never come out in favor or against the authenticity of the house, but nevertheless maintains a steady flow of pilgrims since its discovery.

House of the Virgin Mary, Selçuk, İzmir, Aegean Region, Turkey, Asia
The House of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos in the vicinity of Ephesus, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Selçuk in Turkey. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), a Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death. While the Catholic Church has never pronounced in favour or against the authenticity of the house, it nevertheless has maintained a steady flow of pilgrimage since its discovery. Anne Catherine Emmerich was Beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 3, 2004. Catholic pilgrims visit the house based on the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine) or Dormition (according to Orthodox belief). The shrine has merited several papal Apostolic Blessings and visits from several popes, the earliest pilgrimage coming from Pope Leo XIII in 1896, and the most recent in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. The shrine itself is not extensively large, but may rather be described as a modest chapel. The preserved stones and construction date back into the Apostolic Age, as consistent with other preserved buildings from that time, but with minor additions such as garden landscapes and devotional additions outside the shrine. Upon entrance to the chapel, a pilgrim is met by one single large room where an altar along with a large statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is prominently displayed in the center. On the right side, a smaller room lies traditionally associated with the actual room where the Virgin Mary is believed to have slept. Marian tradition holds that some form of running water used to flow like a canal in the smaller room where the Virgin Mary slept and rested, leading to the present drinking fountain outside the building structure.

Heads of the Christian Orthodox church from around the world gathered in Istanbul on Christmas day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Last year, the Patriarchs met in Bulgaria for their Christmas service.

The service, which lasted more than two hours, saw a mingling of the ancient and the modern.
The patriarchs, wearing gold-encrusted mitras on their heads and vestments of heavy brocade and carrying golden scepters, processed into the incense-filled church as throngs of the faithful crowded the aisles with video cameras.
This is the first time all the clergy have celebrated Christmas together.

There is contradicting information about the Syrian refugees in Turkey. Some say those refugees are here so that a new army structure is formed in Syria. STORYLINE:
Christmas masses and celebrations were held at several churches in Istanbul on Monday.
Hundreds of people congregated for hymns and prayers at churches across the Turkish city.
At the church of Saint Antoine, a large crowd attended an evening mass service illuminated by Christmas trees covered in blue lights.
Bells were rung and the congregation sang during the service.
With 2012 drawing to a close, Istanbul resident Gul Nebik said she wants to see a change of governmental policies in the year end.
''In 2013 we would like our government to be more tolerant and understanding. We would like them abstain from their aggressive approach. Generally, that's all I want and expect,'' she said.
The ongoing crisis in neighbouring Syria is also something that many Turkish people would like to see change in 2013.
Anxiety is mounting about the bloody conflict and many people remain concerned about the presence of thousands of Syrian refugees living in camps in Turkey.

Serbia: Thousands remember Virgin Mary at Intercession of the Theotokos
Thousands of Christian pilgrims flocked to the Serbian village of Djunis on Sunday, to mark a religious holiday celebrating the Virgin Mary, known as the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary or the Intercession of the Theotokos.
Believers gathered at a monastery, where they sang hymns by candle light, prayed and sought the healing powers believed to exist in the holy water from a spring near the church.
The Intercession of the Theotokos is celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic Churches. It is dedicated to the remembrance of Mother Mary’s appearance in the Church of the Constantinople, now known as Istanbul, in 911. According to tradition, she had appeared during a prayer, dressed in gold and surrounded by apostles and saints.
