Processing the French Alps - Jordan Regnier and Alexander Kangas ride Tignes/Val D’ Isere
Ah, the French Alps. The land of good cheese and great wine. It also happens to be home to two high alpine bike parks that are the perfect proving ground for the all-new Kona Process. This past September, Kona Super Grassroots riders Jordan Regnier and Alexander Kangas ventured to Tignes and Val D' Isere bike parks where lift tickets are free (no joke) and caught the perfect weather and autumn light making for gorgeous, and rather treacherous big mountain descents. Regnier's weapon of choice is the Process 165, the perfect bike park, all around ass-kicking machine, while Kangas opted for the Process 153 AL/DL 29er, proving that big wheels love big descents.

Tignes is a group of villages that form a high-altitude ski resort in the French Alps, near the Italian border. With nearby Val d’Isère, it’s part of the Espace Killy ski area, linked by a network of lifts. Val Claret and Tignes Le Lac villages are lively hubs, with restaurants and shops. In summer, the area offers trails, golf and a bike park, plus ski runs on the Grande Motte glacier.
Tignes is a famous resort in French Alps linked to Val D'Isere. The nearest train station is Bourg-Saint-Maurice, which is served by TGV and local services. In the winter months, additional services operate; Eurostars direct from London, Thalys trains from Europe, and the ski train sleeper from Paris. This is some 35km away however, so coach services provide the onward connection; the journey takes about 1 hour 15 minutes in good weather.
The village itself is fairly compact, and the use of cars is now being discouraged. The slopes are accessed direct from the village level ski lifts and cable cars; there are some 90 lifts in total. The bleak architecture in the town has somewhat detracted from the atmosphere in the past, but the situation is now improving. Of course, the views of the Alps from the resort are spectacular. It is partly for this reason that Tignes is not only a winter resort for skiing, but a summer one for hiking, mountain biking , summer skiing on the glacier ; it has won the sporting town of france 2008
Tignes is in the Espace Killy skiing area, which means that just one pass is needed for access to the slopes around Tignes, Val-Claret and Val D'Isere; for the 2017/8 season, a six-day pass will cost €285 (£250; $350).
The resort has some 2300km of pistes, of which 26km are served by snowmaking equipment. 15% are green, 46% blue, 27% red and 12% black. The resort is always renowned for the amount of snow it gets, though - a forecast of rain up to 2000m means snow to village level, i.e., fresh snow on all pistes.
Mountain Biking with two of the main lifts in the resort open for hikers and mountain bikers you have the choice of 8 different marked routes to decend, with a difficulty ranging from easy to difficult, although this would not be a resort for complete beginner mountain bikers. The resort is also much suited to hiking; in summer, the snow at ground level has disappeared and the Sun can actually be quite pleasant.

Gunpowder bike trail is the longest ride on this side of the bike park (Tovière). This blue line is about 4,5km long and -595m down: you will have plenty of time to enjoy the nice view and train on turns.

From flowing blues to natural enduro to BIG senders, Here's a tour of Tignes Bike park with a few bits of info and epic footage thrown in for good measure!
Tignes is a mountain biking gem with loads of great riding to be had for all skill levels. The Mtb trails here used to be mainly flowy blues but as of this year the trail builders have opened a good handful of new runs with some big senders and tech single track.
Lift pass is on 10 euros for a day pass too! With loads of activities other than mountain biking, This is a great place for families looking to try activities to holiday to. Not to mention you can ski year round also.
