Moussa El-Maamari had one dream. He wanted to build a castle. And he did.
Moussa wishes that one day some filmmakers would turn his story into a movie. He wishes also to be considered by the guinness book committee of world records as the establisher of the first touristic site built by one man single-handedly over 60 years of his life.

A childhood dream comes true!
Moussa Abdel Karim Al Maamari born on 1930 and die on 2018.
On the top of a hill the mounts of Deir al-Qamar and Beiteddine, Moussa built his dream castle with an area of about 3500 square meter of stones carved with his own hands as art paintaings, each of which tells a story of history. The castle comprises about thirty halls and rooms containing more than 160 movable statues made by Moussa, all symbolize Lebanese heritage throught history, in addition to the world's unique weapons museum, which includes thousands of artfacts, all collected by Moussa over the years.

Moussa Castle is a Lebanese landmark. Located on a hill between Deir El Kamar and Beiteddine, this castle hides an interesting story behind it! Moussa Castle is the vision of Moussa Abdel Karim Al Maamari who was born in 1931. When he was a teenager, Moussa was obsessed with the architecture of the Middle Ages. He always dreamed of building a castle with his own hands. At fourteen years old, he fell in love with a girl named Sayyeda. His crush, who belongs to a wealthy family, told Moussa that he could talk to her when he owns a palace. During art class, his teacher assigned the students to draw a bird and a tree. Instead, Moussa drew a castle in which he and Sayyeda would live. The teacher, whose name was Anwar, thought that Moussa was mocking him by not following the instruction. So, he beat him with a cane and tore up the drawing. The young dreamer picked up the pieces and left. A few days later, Moussa made an important decision which changed his life. He went to Sidon without informing anyone and started working in construction with his uncle. With his experience in renovating palaces, Moussa built the famous castle with his own hands. His wife Maria helped him. The castle was a huge success. Many renowned figures, including President Camille Chamoun and his wife, visited the Lebanese landmark. Moussa Castle contains figurines that portray scenes of the village life. One of the scenes depicts Anwar beating Moussa; a memory that the architect could never forget. 67 years after the incident, he invited Sayyeda to the castle with the help of his cousin. She didn't know that it was her classmate Moussa who built the castle. Sayyeda was surprised when she saw him. The castle features artifacts, gemstones, clothing, and 32,000 weapons. It's a heritage museum where you can go back in time.

Moussa's castle was built on a hill between Deir El Kamar and Beiteddine - Lebanon, with the beliefs and ideas of its builder engraved on its stones. The castle was built by Moussa Abdel Karim Al Maamari who was born on July 27, 1931, in the village of Harat Al Saraya - Lebanon and died January 31, 2018, in the village Deir El Qamar. His idea of building a castle began when he was only 14 years old, inspired by the Middle Ages.
Ridiculed by his teacher Anwar and mocked by his classmates, he left school and travelled to Saida on foot where he worked with his uncle on restoring Saida's fortress. He was later assigned by the Emir Maurice Chehab to renovate the castles and to excavate for archaeological discoveries to be exhibited in the National Museum of Beirut in 1947. He continued working in the same field gaining enough experience from his work in restoring castles. He was then transferred to Beiteddine palace, where he restored the museum of Emir Bashir Chehabi II; he supervised the work as well as the placing of the Emir's weapons collection, clothes and jewelry, and the sword offered to him by Napoleon in the museum that was inaugurated under the rule of late president Beshara Khalil Al Khoury in September 1951. It was then that he began work on his own construction and bought a suitable piece of land. The foundation stone was laid in 1962, and completed with the help of his wife.

Explore the beautiful Beit ed-Dine Palace Lebanon
Beit ed-Dine is a small town and municipality in the Chouf District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon. It is about 45 kilometres southeast of Beirut. The area is predominantly Christian, and it is most well known for its 18th century Beiteddine Palace. Built by Emir Bashir II in 1788 the site’s control has been interchanged between the Ottoman Empire and later the French Mandate. Today you can enjoy walking around this beautiful palace after a short drive from Beirut. Entry for a nominal fee, you can explore some beautiful gardens and mosaics as well as the lavish lifestyle the inhabitants once had. Today it remains open to the public however it can be enjoyed by the sitting President as a summers residence.

Beiteddine Palace, Lebanon
Beiteddine Palace, (or Bayt ad Din), was built in the early 19th century for the Ottoman governor of Lebanon. It is now a residence for the Lebanese President. The restored stables contains an extensive collection of Byzantine mosaics. I fimed this in December 2010. traveltalesandnotes.blogspot.com.
