This video is about my trip to North Island of New Zealand in March 2018. It is very different from South Island. Considering I have visited South Island for so many times, and this is only the second time that I visited North Island, I really should not comparing them too much. The sceneries are very different and yet both islands their own characters. I enjoyed my trip to Muriwai Beach very much and I am looking forward to visiting Karekare beach next time.

Muriwai beach is one of the many picturesque places on the west coast of Auckland, New Zealand. Apart from the beautiful beach you can also see a colony of gannets on beautiful cliff formations.

About 40km northwest of Auckland you'll find Muriwai Beach, another popular black sand beach on New Zealand's West coast. Stretching out for about 50km all the way up to the Kaipara Harbour.
Probably better known for it's large colony of gannets which see about 1,200 pairs of gannets nest here each year from August to March.

Finally uploading our last half-day in my home city of Auckland! Spent a couple of hours out at one of the West Coast's most famous surf beaches, Muriwai - black sand, and a gannet colony! Apologies for how shaky the video is, it was quite windy up at the colony, and the paths were also not flat!

While traveling back to town from mountain biking, we stopped at Muriwai Beach to learn a bit about the gannet colony that's been making the beach home for thousands of years. Taken while on vacation Down Under in Auckland, New Zealand in March, 2014.

Muriwai, also called Muriwai Beach, is a coastal community on the west coast of the Auckland Region in the North Island of New Zealand. The black-sand surf beach and surrounding area is a popular recreational area for Aucklanders. Gannets nest there in a large colony on the rocks.
Muriwai is approximately 17 km west of Kumeu, 42 kilometres northwest of Auckland city, at the southern end of an unbroken 50 kilometre stretch of beach which extends up the Tasman Sea coast to the mouth of the Kaipara Harbour. One of several popular beaches in the area (others include Piha and Karekare), it experiences a population explosion in summer when Aucklanders head to the sea. It is in the Rodney Ward of the Auckland Region.
