Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia ll Top Things to do Malaysia ll Top Things to do Kuala Lumpur
New uploads every Monday and Friday!!!
The museum is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s tourist belt amidst the lush greenery of Perdana Botanical Gardens and within walking distance to the National Mosque, Bird Park and National Planetarium. The museum is the largest museum of Islamic arts in South East Asia with more than seven thousands artefacts from the Islamic world. An impressive architectural feat, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia features a huge blue turquoise dome on top of the building, glass walls that allow natural light to flow in, domed ceilings adorned with intricate Islamic patterns, and a vast exhibition space which spans 30,000 square metres. The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia houses an exceptional library of Islamic books. Instead of concentrating on works from the heartlands of Persia and the Middle East, IAMM also puts the emphasis on Asia. China and Southeast Asia are especially well represented. The third component of the Malaysian melting pot is India, which is also given special status. India, China and the Malay world are in an exclusive category.
Other parts of the collection are displayed according to type of artifact rather than geographical origins in the museum’s 12 galleries.

Street Art and Sculpture at the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur
I know less about art than I do about food, so it made sense to head to the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur for a Culture Vulture Sunday experience. And I got lucky. The main exhibit on display consisted of installation pieces (sculpture, found object, etc) from the gallery's permanent collection. I enjoy that kind of art quite a bit.
The other exhibit on the ground floor showcased the street art and graffiti of Kuala Lumpur. Spending a lot of time near the Klang River as I do, I'm very aware of the popularity of large street art on the cement containment walls of the river. It was enjoyable to view the street art that I see every day around the city in a new context on the walls of a museum.
The building housing the National Art Gallery was as much an attraction as the art itself, and strolling up the winding platforms from floor to floor was fun.
And on the way to the gallery, I made my usual accidental discoveries, such as stumbling across the aging but still impressive Culture Palace (Istana Budaya) and the completely sealed-off Titiwangsa Lake along with some time-lapses of the sometimes chaotic but always polite Kuala Lumpur traffic.
Cheers,

Art Expo Malaysia 2014 (1)
25-28 September. Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre.
THE Art Expo Malaysia (AEM) celebrates its eight year in 2014 as the longest running art fair in Southeast Asia, a rainbow package of art from the East and West and also from the South and Central America apart from Central Asia.It was started in 2007 by entrepreneur-impresario Datuk Vincent Sim Tiak Choo. The AEM was largely funded from proceeds of sales of Datuk Vincent Sim's Chinese art collection of over 40 years. It was to fulfill his dream of having an art fair to bring together some of the finest artworks from all over the world to Kuala Lumpur, all under one roof. He also knew the importance of having an art fair in Malaysia, which could contribute to the development of the visual arts industry, bringing the art scene a big leap forward.
