STORYLINE:
The Yakutsk legend of 'Chyskhaan', the Lord of Cold or the 'Winter Bull' is Siberia's answer to Santa Claus.
Similar to Santa Claus, characters playing the role of 'Chyskhaan' drive a reindeer sleigh and dress in theatrical costume.
Families can visit 'Chyskhaan' at the 'Kingdom of Permafrost' tourist attraction, where they can take a sleigh ride in the snow and tour the kingdom, set in a cave, with icicles and ice sculptures.
The local tale of 'Chyskhaan' is that every autumn he emerges from the Arctic ocean, bringing cold to the earth with his breath.
Folklore says that people could judge the oncoming winter temperatures by looking at his horns.
If they are long, severe frosts are to be expected.
