Seungmo Park, Meticulously Snipped & Wrapped
Renowned Korean artist Seungmo Park will display his unique works at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum at Saginaw Valley State University. The exhibition Seung Mo Park, Meticulously Snipped & Wrapped opens Friday, Sept. 26 to debut at the Museum’s annual Saints, Sinners and Shenanigans gala benefit that same evening.
This exhibition, originated by the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City, marks Park’s second one-man exhibition in the Midwest. Gene Jennman, Director of the Dennos, said “this was a ‘jaw dropping’ experience for visitors to the exhibition.”
Park has had solo exhibitions in Daegu, Busan, and his native Seoul, South Korea; as well as Taipei, Taiwan; London, England; and New York. His work has been in group exhibitions at the Hangaram Art Museum, Gwangiu Museum of Art, and Kyunggido Museum in South Korea; galleries and museums in Beijing and Shanghai, China; London, England; Israel; Kolkata, India; and New York City.
“Park’s meticulously cut MAYA (meaning ‘illusion’ in Sanskrit) imagery and aluminum wire-wrapped sculpture forms are undeniably unique and intriguing works of art,” said Marilyn Wheaton, Director of the Fredericks Sculpture Museum. “They are remarkable, transparent, illusory works of art, like no other we have exhibited at this Museum,” she added.
Works from Park’s HUMAN series, where he recreates the delicate wrinkles and folds of clothing as well as the sinuous musculature of the human body in metallic layers reminiscent of tree rings, and from his OBJECT series of sculpted musical instruments and other forms will also be in the exhibition.
The Museum is grateful to The Dow Chemical Company for sponsoring the exhibition.

Super Moon Night Festivities in Gyeongju, South Korea
When guide Mr. Shrek insisted we had to drag our tired bodies out to an area in Gyeongju to see the Super Moon with was very fortuitous since it coincided with Korean Thanksgiving, we thought that was a big exaggeration.
Us two dorks had no idea this was a big deal, not only here, but around the world...duh.

Korean Music Ensemble HONA
The reason for the newness beyond the border, between music and travel ...
Route 7 facing the second stage of The Nomadic Life series. Route 7 is a north-south road extending from Busan to Onsung, North Hamgyong Province, and is located along the lowland of the East Coast. It is one of the 25 routes across the country, with 34 long-distance bridges with a total length of 100 meters or more and 118 bridges.
It starts from the Busan Metropolitan City Roadway Table, runs through Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gangwon-do to the DMZ, and the road is formed along the East Sea coast, there are beautiful landscapes.
Korean Music Ensemble HONA is a group of musicians who are making new music that combines both Korean traditional music with a contemporary attitude and aesthetic. All the members of HONA have studied Korean traditional music (Gugak) and each of them is an excellent solo player in his/her own right. Not satisfied with just playing what they had learned in school, they started making their own music under the name of HONA. Inspired by Korea’s shamanistic music, HONA incorporates free improvisation in their performances and frequently collaborate with other artists to create a passionate, immersive music theater that includes narrative, dance and visual images. Their music is visceral and emotional and draws upon their own experiences and emotions to express their spiritual journey through music.
FOTM-Oppenheim_Part 1.mpg
Focus on the Masters founder and Executive Director Donna Granata interviews conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim. Oppenheim created the newest addition to the City of Ventura Public Art Program called Bus-Home, a large functional sculpture gracing the new Bus Transfer Center at Venturas Pacific View Mall.
Stanford-educated, Oppenheim is a world famous pioneering figure within contemporary art history, leading in the fields of performance, video, film, sculpture, drawing and public art. Bus Home deals with the metamorphosis of one image into another. In a kind of animated freeze frame the house slowly becomes a bus. In this three-dimensional pictorial equivalent of a journey, the journey consists of a swirling loop, a spiral. This work should be magical and hard to contemplate, as is often the case when one thing turns into another, explained Oppenheim. I hope this work would also bring calm to especially young travelers, by showing a flow, and connection between where you came from and where you are going.
