Many traditional confectionaries have been developed for a long time in Japan. Various confectionaries with more than 1000 years of history were introduced to Japan from East Asia, West Asia and Europe, and various amazing Wagashi (Japanese confectionary) have been evolved all over Japan. Originally, Yokan was broth of sheep in China. In modern Japan, Yokan is made of azuki bean, which looks like a liver of sheep, sugar, and agar, and Yokan is popular as one of representative wagashi all over japan. The method of preparing kneaded Yokan with a history of over 200 years was introduced to Ogi-city in Saga prefecture of Kyusyu region, and Ogi-city is regarded as one of the best places for Yokan. The traditional method of preparing Ogi-Yokan can make the best Yokan; therefore, Ogi-Yokan always gains a good reputation. We now would like to introduce Ogi-Yokan of Muraoka-Sohonpo, which was certified as “Honba no Honmono (The Genuine of the Best Place)” in 2015.
