Walking around The North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco
North Beach is a neighborhood in the northeast of San Francisco adjacent to Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and Russian Hill. The neighborhood is San Francisco's Little Italy, and has historically been home to a large Italian American population. It is still home to many Italian restaurants today, though many other ethnic groups currently live in the neighborhood. It was also the historic center of the beatnik subculture. Today, North Beach is one of San Francisco's main nightlife districts as well as a residential neighborhood populated by a mix of young urban professionals, families and Chinese immigrants connected to the adjacent Chinatown.
The American Planning Association (APA) has named North Beach as one of ten Great Neighborhoods in America
A Morning in North Beach - San Francisco gems
I'm a morning person. Must be in my genes. The morning is the best part of the day IMO. October on the California coast brings with it an Indian Summer. Telegraph Hill in San Francisco's North Beach district provides a fabulous vantage point to see the sunrise over the East Bay hills and the Bay Bridge. After the sun is up, explore North Beach when there is still plentiful and free parking to be had. That doesn't last after 9am, so enjoy it while you can.

This is a visit to Northpoint Centre, a small but busy mall in the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco, CA. Calzone's on Columbus Ave, North Beach, San Francisco
Welcome to Calzone's in the heart of North Beach with outdoor, heated dining.
For a completely different take on North Beach, head up the street to Calzone's. This sparkling bistro has a large awning along the front with tables and chairs beneath it, perfect for watching the crowd go by on a lazy afternoon. The thin-crust pizzas are a popular choice, and for good reason: they're made in an oblong shape, with toppings like marinated eggplant, calamata olives and goat cheese; a grown-up pizza, but with the gooey cheese and crisp bite that brings back childhood memories. The spinach salad makes a nice lunchtime meal, studded with olives, Maui onions, pancetta, chicken, pine nuts and Humboldt Fog goat cheese tossed with a mustard vinaigrette. Most unique are the homemade Italian pot stickers, an intriguing combination of Asian and Italian flavors, stuffed with sausage, wild mushrooms and ginger and served with a soy-sesame dipping sauce.
Calzone's Food Calzone's is a hot night spot, too; the music is cranked up and passersby stop in at the bar for a cocktail and a chat. The restaurant serves food until 1am, which makes it an ideal place to end the night with an espresso or a midnight snack!
