Norwich is a city on the River Wensum in East Anglia and lies about 100 miles north-east of London. Norwich is the regional administrative centre for East Anglia and county town of Norfolk. During the 11th century, Norwich was the largest city in England after London, and one of its most important. Norwich - the best preserved English Tudor city
2 days in Norwich, England - Did not realise until we went to Norwich that from Medieval times until the industrial revolution Norwich was both the wealthiest and the second largest city in England. 57 churches stood within the city wall, 31 of the medieval churches still exist today, and seven are still used for worship plus there are 2 cathedrals. We started at the Sainsbury Centre and art gallery on the way into town. We visited St Giles church with its 1896 organ, walked along the recently renovated Wensum riverside walk past the Briton’s Arms and along the cobbled street of the Tudor Elm Hill, the most photographed crocked Augustine Stewart house and on to the 900 year old cathedral. Back along the river we passed Pull’s ferry, the Cow Tower, the new Jarrold bridge and the oldest pub in the city (would you Adam and Eve it) and on to the museum and art gallery in Norwich Castle. We toured Strangers’ Hall and finished with a visit to the 900 year old Market.

Asylum Integration The Undercroft Gallery, Norwich 2016
I am the artist Gennadiy Ivanov and I was born in the USSR.
I came to Norwich from Belarus about 10 years ago and I graduated with a masters in Fine Art from Norwich Arts University.
I am Gennadiy and I am an immigrant.
Asylum is the second major exhibition in Norwich that I have organized and curated.
The exhibition involves 20 artists exhibiting in the Undercroft gallery this summer.
‘Asylum’ is about migrant artists working together with British artists.
Together we will get a better understanding of asylum, migration and integration and the feelings of the migrants and theirs hosts.
We will examine the generosity and sharing, giving and accepting.
We will tell our stories and share them with you.
“Asylum” will combine a variety of styles, directions and media.
The visitor will be able to see a synthesis of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and graphics with the addition of light and sound.
Asylum will be set out as a ‘labyrinth’ with shelter (asylum) rooms. It will be a synesthesia, playing with perception, mixing signals from different senses all heightening the experience of the individual artworks.
Asylum is about you and me, about being human, about us
Last years exhibition was very successful.
The war and peace theme was powerful and moved a large number of the almost 3000 people who visited.
This year we want to be even better.
The basic exhibition costs about £1500 to put on with artists contributing their time invigilating and money and time promoting it.
Any additional contribution will be a big bonus to us.
Raising more than £1500 will allow us to share Asylum with more people in the community, running workshops and involving local school children, other artists and asylum seekers.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this and I look forward to seeing you at Asylum in August 2016.

Norwich Castle: Gateway to Medieval England
Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery is currently in the process of delivering a NLHF funded redevelopment of the medieval castle spaces. This will result in the representation of the historical interiors of the 12th century keep on one floor and a British Museum partnership gallery exploring the medieval period (11th to 16th century) on another. Within the project development, the narratives in the medieval gallery are being approached thematically within the chronological period, dividing the display space into Those Who Work, Those Who Pray and Those Who Fight. The methodology behind this approach was to use a digestible social structuring, rooted within a contemporary historical understanding, which could provide a framework for exploring the intricacies and nuances of medieval society and how it changed over five centuries. Underlying the approach to the museum display was the opportunity to highlight the extensive archaeological collections of the Norfolk Museum Service, both excavated material and objects traditionally approached from an aesthetic art historical perspective, and showcase the research and scientific analysis underpinning current scholarship.

The History Train - heavy horse procession - Norwich 2016
The History Train, a procession of heavy horses and carts, delivered art for the British Art Show 8, to four locations in Norwich, England, 18th June, 2016. The weather was a typically dull British summer day, with several light rain showers during the procession.
In more detail
The History Train was a project conceived by artist Alan Kane, who is based in Great Yarmouth and London. Using historic heavy horses of Norfolk and Suffolk, including rare breeds like Suffolk Punches, to draw carts through the busy streets of Norwich. It is a long while since so many heavy horses were seen on the streets of Norwich.
The procession began in Chapelfield Gardens, where the transport horse-box trucks parked and the horses were hitched to their carts. The procession left the park around 11.30am and went down Theatre Street and Rampant Horse Street (yes that is a real street name, probably from an old pub name). The first stop was on Castle Meadow around 11.45am. The procession restarted around 12 noon and went through Bank Plain and down St Andrews Street and into St Georges Street, where the second delivery was to the Norwich University of the Arts. About 12.30pm a single cart, pulled by a grey pair, delivered to the East Gallery of the NUA, before rejoining the rest of the procession which went back up St Andrews Street to Bank Plain and then down London Street Negotiating London Street was tricky, as it is mainly pedestrian only, but they all passed through without a problem.
Around 12.50pm the procession passed along Gentlemans Walk, the main city centre street, in front of the market, before turning up Hay Hill, to reach Millennium Plain and The Forum, the final delivery point. After a long pause to allow the delivery to be completed and the public to see the horses up close, the procession began the final stage back to Chapelfield Gardens.
The horses came from various places, including Banham Zoo, Gressenhall Farm Museum, as well as Poringland, and one pair from Cambridgeshire.
