San Francisco is my favorite place on the planet. This was the first evening of my month-long stay there in the summer of 2011. I sat on the beach and watched the sun set. Jesse and I talked about life and love and God and art and everything. I felt like I was coming home.

It is a sunny Monday in the Bay Area. My little girls are both on their summer holiday.
So I decided to take them to Ocean Beach just to chill and intake some VitaminSea.
The trip was awesome, I could sit there for hours. Everyone knows how much I love visiting the beach.

Ocean Beach is a beach that runs along the west coast of San Francisco, California, United States, at the Pacific Ocean. It is adjacent to Golden Gate Park, the Richmond District, and the Sunset District. The Great Highway runs alongside the beach, and the Cliff House and the site of the former Sutro Baths sit at the northern end. The beach is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which is administered by the National Park Service.
During the late spring and summer, San Francisco's characteristic foggy weather frequently envelops the beach, resulting in average temperatures of 50 °F to 55 °F (9 °C to 12 °C) and discouraging visitation by tourists and beach goers.[citation needed] However, the beach is popular with surfers and participants in bonfire parties.[citation needed] More beach-friendly weather occurs in late fall and early spring, when fog is less prevalent.
On November 6, 2011, Ocean Beach played site to a monumental achievement in the sport of surfing. In the Rip Curl Pro surfing contest, the legendary Kelly Slater won his unprecedented 11th ASP world championship at the age of 39. This was the only one of his championships won in the continental United States.
The water at Ocean Beach is noteworthy for its strong currents and waves, which makes it popular among serious surfers. The water is cold, due in part to a process known as upwelling, in which frigid water from below the ocean surface rises to replace the surface water that moves away from the beach as a result of the Coriolis effect. The rapid rip currents and cold water make the ocean dangerous for casual swimmers and even those who simply want to set foot in it, and swimmers have been swept away and drowned. Nevertheless, the beach is one of the Bay Area's top surfing spots. The southern portion of the beach by Sloat Boulevard is one of the cleanest in the state.

Surfer Rescued from San Francisco's Ocean Beach in Critical Condition
The San Francisco fire department pulled a man from the surf at Ocean Beach and rushed him to a local hospital where he was in critical condition Friday afternoon, according to officials. Julie Watts reports. (12-7-18)

US Navy LCAC (Hovercraft) Landing at Ocean Beach, San Francisco

This is a long cut of the video I took of the San Francisco Fleet Week Medical Exchange Exercises that were performed on Ocean Beach. The main of attraction of which was the Navy Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) landing on the beach (at 4:10 on the video) and the subsequent 180 degree turn and departing (10:00), however there were many other vessels, watercraft, vehicles, helicopters and other activity. Even a visit by the Mayor at (7:15).
Here's how the event was described:
Since 2010 San Francisco Fleet Week has been the venue for Bay Area First Responders and the U.S. Military to meet, train together and discuss the latest lessons learned from recent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations and to develop processes and relationships between Federal, State and Local agencies.
As part of 2012 Fleet Week activities, the San Francisco Fleet Week Association and the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management along with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team in action as a Navy Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) operating from the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and Marines from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade deliver emergency supplies to Ocean Beach on October 3. This event is part of a multi-agency medical exercise.
The Navy LCAC is an amphibious military vehicle that provides a high speed, over-the-horizon transport of cargo, vehicles, and personnel from Navy ships at sea to beaches and other landing sites. The Navy and Marine Corps used the LCAC to deliver equipment and supplies to Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina, to deliver fire suppression apparatus to Catalina Island, and to support disaster relief missions around the world.
Following a major disaster in San Francisco that makes roads and bridges impassible, Navy LCACs and other amphibious vehicles and aircraft could deliver critical personnel, supplies, and equipment from Navy ships at sea. This exercise will demonstrate the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities of the Navy and Marine Corps team to deploy the LCAC to deliver emergency supplies, in this case to a Marine Corps Shock Trauma Platoon (STP). The STP, which will also be demonstrated at Ocean Beach, has the unique capability to establish a mobile surgery center within hours of a major disaster to provide medical attention to those in need.
